Oak Grove Mission Statement

Our mission is to glorify God through worship, bring people to faithful

discipleship in Christ, equip them for ministry in the church and the

world, and grow in our love for one another through fellowship.

FROM YOUR PASTOR

As of writing this message we are well on our way through

Holy Week. I don’t ever remember such a cold and rainy

Palm Sunday. It is certainly one we will all remember. But

despite the weather it ended up being a great day. We still

had a very good crowd and the music and singing were ex-

cellent. It was a pleasure to receive so many new members

this year. There were 4 confirmations, 3 adult baptisms, 2

reaffirmations of faith, and two children to join. The New

Members Potluck was well attended and there was an

abundant spread of food, which was all delicious. Our first

Holy Week service was beautiful with the hymns and read-

ing and the choir singing “The Holy City” and “Bethany.”

By the time most of you get this newsletter Easter will have

come and gone. But even though we will have celebrated

Easter Sunday, we will still be in the Easter season. And we

should live every day as Easter people. Moravians are

called the Easter people and Winston-Salem the Easter city.

Each day we should live with joy in our hearts, because

Christ is alive and tomb forever empty. Christ lives in our

lives and we have abundant life and the promise of eternal

life.

Don’t let the joy of Resurrection Sunday fade when you

wake up Easter Monday. Live each day with the joy of East-

er in your heart.

God bless and I’ll see you in church!

Matthew

Oak Grove Members,

Kind deeds are like little prayers. Thank you so much

for the beautiful floral arrangement sent for Grand-

daddy’s service. Also, all the food you brought to our

home was wonderful and greatly appreciated! Grand-

daddy loved all of you dearly. He often spoke of try-

ing to come back to church after Grandma passed. I

think it was just too hard for him without her. But

you all continued to love him just the same. I am

very grateful for that.

Thank you,

Keely Greer

Dear Oak Grove family,

Thank you for the cards, visits and prayers following

my surgery. Your thoughtfulness is very appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mike Cain

Newsletter Notes

Spreading the word beyond the churches of Salem Congregation:

When cold winter drifts into warm spring, we Moravians turn our thoughts to — the graveyard. In preparation for its 241st Easter Sunrise Service, Salem Congregation dug around a bit in the Salem God’s Acre. The idea was to bury communication lines for new microphones and speakers to improve the sound quality of the service. A report on how they worked will come next month.

While we are still in the Salem God’s Acre, Salem Congregation sees the need to repave the crumbling walkways. The cost: about $70,000. And a warning: “We will run out of traditional burial space in the years ahead and must make plans for providing for the needs of our thirteen member congregations with additional land purchase or increased space for cremations.” The upshot: all contributions gratefully accepted.

New Philadelphia has begun a “Lamb Ministry.” It’s very simple. Small stuffed lambs are delivered to those who are hospitalized or home-bound, in nursing homes or assisted care. Each lamb has a collar tag that pro-claims that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep. The Lamb Ministry has two purposes: to remind recipients that they are in the church’s thoughts and prays, and to strengthen their ties to the church though they are not attending.

Friedland is set to embark on upgrading its fellowship hall kitchen to commercial grade. Final plans are being worked out, and soon the reno-vation will begin. It’s all the better to serve us fish fry, chicken and barbe-cue supper, etc.

Here’s a problem every church should have. Sunday evening Bible study at Union Cross is so popular — about 30 regular attendees — that thought has been given to moving it into the sanctuary.

With spring arriving, can Moravian Night at the Dash baseball game be far behind? This year’s date is Friday, June 7. Play ball!

Fulp is looking ahead to its Vacation Bible School, which will be in July. It seems the school needs “disk-style” sleds. You know. Snow and cold sleds. In July. Our imagination runs wild.

Do you really know God?

You may know about God, but do you truly know what He says about Himself—and

what He wants from you?

This eye-opening study will help you gain a true understanding of God’s character and His ways. As you discover for yourself who He is, you’ll be drawn into a deeper, more personal relationship

with the God of the universe— a relationship that will enable you to confidently

display His strength in life’s most challenging circumstances.

New Women's Bible Study will start on

May 11th.

Please call Tammy Lewis 723-1430 if you would like a study guide.

JOINT BOARD REPORT The Elders and Trustees met jointly on Tues-day, March 12. Pastor Allen opened the meeting with prayer and read the Daily Text. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Tammy Lewis gave a report on our Facebook page and how many people are viewing it. It is a great mission and outreach tool. Even people from other countries are looking at our Face-book page. Thanks to Tammy for all her hard work in keeping it up and running and updated. We also talked about getting a website up and running, too. We already have the domain name and just need someone to set it up and keep updated.
