A Letter from the Directors

CHARLOTTE MOORE, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR CIARÁN O’REILLY, PRODUCING DIRECTOR

We had been fans of Bill Irwin for decades. We watched in awe the seamless transitions of this multi-talented actor as he morphed effortlessly between the worlds of O’Neill, Mr. Noodle, Albee, Gurney, and of course, the mountaintop of

Samuel Beckett. We have stood in long lines to see Bill’s own dazzling creations of Fool Moon, Old Hats, and The Regard of Flight, to name but a few, and even tracked him down at the circus where he strutted around the ring as if to the

manor born.

So in early 2018, when we picked up the phone and heard Bill Irwin on the other side saying something about an idea he had about a show that explores the

world of Samuel Beckett, he did not get to finish his sentence. We said "YES, MR IRWIN! YES! PLEASE COME!"

And he did. And On Beckett was born. And the world rejoiced.

When Covid19 hit, and our empty theatre rang with a silence that Mr. Beckett understood so well, we thought of Bill and Beckett and wondered if he might

virtually appear to break the monotony.

He said "Yes, thank you, I will come."

And he did. And he strutted on our stage before the camera reimagining a whole new vision for this medium so he speaks directly to you in your home.

And On Beckett / In Screen was born. And we all rejoiced.
