ALL SOULS DAY
The Roman Catholic Church day of
remembrance for loved ones who have passed away is November, 2nd -
All Soul’s Day.
All Soul’s Day follows All Saint’s Day to shift our focus from the
souls of the Saints in Heaven to those souls who remain in
purgatory. This day of remembrance is to remind us that
we should try our best to lead holy lives here on earth; and that there will be a purification of the souls destined for
Heaven. Christians have been praying for the dead since the earliest days of Christianity. Praying for the dead is borrowed from
Judaism as indicated in 2 Maccabees 12:41-42. In the New
Testament, St. Paul prays for his departed friend Onesipho-rus in 2 Timothy 1:16-18. This tradition of praying for the
dead is a legacy that is passed on to all of us. The living
must pray for the souls in purgatory who suffer so they may
be purged of their sins and received into Heaven. Through prayer and good works we help to cleanse their souls so
they may enter Heaven sooner. We not only pray for our
loved ones, but also for those who no one prays for. This is an act of charity that we are encouraged to do for them.
There are many customs associated with All Soul’s Day,
and these vary greatly from culture to culture. In Mexico they celebrate el Dia de los Muertos or “the day of the
dead” with special meals and altars for their deceased fam-
ily members. In Hungary the day is known as Halottak
Napja. All celebrate with wonderful traditions from invit-ing orphans into the family and giving them food and toys;
to partiers going from door to door requesting gifts and
singing songs of prayer; to having picnics in the graveyard.
So we pray, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let
perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faith-
ful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

La Iglesia Católica y Romana celebra el día de Los Difun-tos en Noviembre 1, un día después del día de Todos los
Santos.
La razón por la cual tenemos esta celebración un día des-
pués del otro, es para diferenciar entre las almas de los San-
tos que están en el cielo y aquellas almas que están en el
purgatorio. También para ayudarnos a recordar que debe-mos tratar de llevar una vida de santidad aquí en la tierra y
que habrá una purificación de las almas que posteriormente
irán al cielo.
Los cristianos han estado orando por los muertos desde el
principio del Cristianismo. Orar por los muertos es tomado del Judaísmo como indica 2 Macabeos 12, 41-42. En el
nuevo testamento, San Pablo ora por su amigo difunto,
Onesíforo en 2 Timoteo 1,16-18. Esta tradición es un lega-
do que nos han dejado a todos nosotros. En vida debemos orar por aquellas almas que están en el purgatorio sufriendo
para que purifiquen sus pecados y puedan ser recibidos en
el Cielo. A través de la oración y buenas acciones, ayuda-mos a los difuntos a purificar sus almas de los pecados
cometidos, para que puedan entrar al cielo más rápido. De
la misma manera, nosotros no oramos únicamente por el
descanso de las almas de nuestros seres queridos, sino tam-bién por aquellas almas en el purgatorio que no tienen
quien ore por ellos. Esto es un acto de caridad enorme que
debemos realizar.
Hay muchas costumbres asociadas con el día de los difun-
tos, y varían de cultura a cultura. En México celebran el Día de todos los Muertos con comidas y un altar especial
para los miembros de la familia que han muerto. En Hun-
gría ese día es conocido como Halottak Napja. Todos cele-
bran esta maravillosa tradición invitando huérfanos a sus familias donde comparten los alimentos y les regalan
juguetes. Ellos van de puerta en puerta pidiendo regalos,
orando con canciones y haciendo asados en el cementerio.
Por lo tanto, oremos: “Concédeles Señor el descanso eterno
y brille para ellos la luz perpetua. Descansen en paz. Amen. Las almas de los fieles difuntos, por la misericordia de
Dios, descansen en Paz.
Amen”

All Soul’s Day Mass November 2nd A bi-lingual All Soul’s Day will be celebrated on Monday, November 2nd at 7:00 pm. Memorial Candles will be on sale in the gift shop this week-
end after all Masses. These candles will be lit and used to illuminate the church for the All Soul’s Mass, after which you may take them home. A donation of $1.00 would be appreciated for each candle. Supplies are limited. Misa bilingüe para celebrar el Dia de todas las Almas se llevará a cabo el próximo Lunes, 2 de Noviembre a las 7:00 pm. Coffee and donuts will be served.
Anyone, even a member of your own family, could need blood. In fact, every two seconds someone in America will need blood. Your donation is important in helping to ensure the blood supply in our community remains at an adequeate level. This area does not get enough donated blood to meet our needs. Blood has to be shipped in to local hospitals. And, if you donate blood with the American Red Cross this fall, you could get even more in return than the Amazing Feeling of knowing you have saved up to three lives. From October 1 through December 31, each person who presents to donate blood or platelets may enter for a chance to win a pair of Delta domestic round trip tickets, thanks to the generous assistance for Delta Air Lines. Three pairs of round trip tickets will be awarded. So, just by taking the time to donate blood and save lives, you could soon find yourself on a getaway trip. Blood donors must be at least 17, weigh no less than 110 rounds, and be in good health.

Su donación es muy importante para ayudarnos a mantener la cuota que se necesita en nuestra comunidad para atender el nivel adecuado. Esta area en Douglasville, no recibe la suficiente cantidad de donación de sangre que se require para cubrir nuestras necesidades. La sangre que se colecte será enviada a los hospitales locales. También, si donas sangre a través de la Cruz Roja durante este otoño, tu puedes ganar algo mas que el maravilloso sentimiento de saber que has salvado la vida hasta de tres personas. God, our Father, we turn to you in this time of great
need. We trust in your loving kindness and ask you to
hear the prayers we offer for Your Church. Through
your grace, we seek men and women willing to gener-
ously offer their lives to You in the priesthood and reli-
gious life, for You inspire and bring to fulfillment
every good intention.
Bless and guide those who are discerning Your call to
holiness and service. Give them courage, steadfast
love and a spirit of charity as they seek to respond
faithfully to You. We offer this prayer for the Archdio-
cese of Atlanta and for the whole Church in the name

Dios, Padre nuestro, venimos hacia ti en este tiempo de
gran necesidad. Confiamos en tu amorosa benevolencia
y te pedimos que escuches las oraciones que ofrecemos.
Mediante tu gracia, nosotros buscamos hombres y
mujeres que genersamente estén dispuestos ofrecerte
sus vidas en el sacerdocio y vida religiosa, para que Tu
los inspires y les ayudes a realizar sus buenas
intenciones.
Bendice y guía aquellos quienes estan discerniendo Tu
llamada a la santidad y servicio. Dales valor, amor fiel
y un espíritu de caridad mientras ellos responden
fielmente a tu llamado. Ofrecemos esta oración por la
Arquidiocesis de Atlanta y por toda la Iglesia en el
