FROM THE PRINCIPAL We are into Term 4, and we have only 8 more weeks until the end of the school year. The earlier finish this year, is due to the Easter break being part of the first holidays, the students had back in April. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students and their families. Our school roll is currently 387, the biggest it has been for over 6 years. We would like to welcome back on staff, Ruth Brewster who is shared teaching in Room 10, Ruth only arrived back in NZ on the last day of term, and her appointment was finalised in the holidays. We are trying to keep the junior classes at around 20 pupils. The next event on our calendar will be Show Day, this is being held on Friday. The builders have started on the rebuild of our school swimming pool changing sheds. Also the fencing contractors are due back to finish the job on the perimeter fence, now the ground has dried out. Term 4 gets very busy for students, their families and staff as we move closer to the end of the school year. Teachers will be continuing with the usual classroom programmes right up to the last week of school. Our theme ‘Beginning to End’ will have a technology emphasis this term, with the school motto ‘Each for All- Mo Te Katoa’ as our value. The teachers also have additional work with assessment and reporting requirements. As the Principal I have to see through the completion of all our 2017 programmes and begin planning for the 2018 school year. At the earliest which will be after the November BOT meeting, I may have some idea of school staffing for 2018 and what to include in school plans. These may change direction slightly, with the change of Government. Time will tell. GOLD CERTIFICATES Congratulations to the following students who will receive their Gold Award at assembly next week, Milysha Johnson, Chanelle Littlewood, Danielle Norman, Ruby Comber, Gaby Kumar, Serenna Gray, Emma Talijancich, Vera’Jane Ngapera, Charlotte Cowley, Semi Kolikata, Te Timatanga Henare, Ainslee Lugtigheid, Oliver Worn, Chanel Seddon, Ashdyn Lingham and Cruz Tibbits-Filimoeatu SCHOOL UNIFORMS During term 4 all students must wear a sun hat while they are outside. If they do not have a hat they will have to stay in the shaded areas. All hats must be worn correctly with the brim of the hat to the front and wording and symbols must be appropriate. USE OF SCHOOL OUT OF HOURS DPS is happy for people to use our facilities out of school hours, please be aware that the school has security cameras. The use of any playground equipment and grounds are at the responsibility of the user. We also recommend that children are under supervision of suitable adults. During the holidays somebody attacked the walkway post in the juniors area with an axe or machete, a couple of windows were also broken. CONTACT DETAILS Please ensure that you advise the office staff of any changes of address or phone numbers. It is very important that we are able to contact parents/caregivers if necessary. SHOW DAY Friday 27 October

A lot of time has gone into preparing for Show Day, the training, grooming and feeding of ani-mals. Students and teachers have also been working hard in class, preparing displays. On Show Day, all students will be working on their classroom display projects from 9:00am to 11:00am. Students with animals should arrive around 8:30am as judging begins at 9:00am and will con-tinue through until approximately 11:00am At 11:00am there will be a break, at the comple-tion of the break, there will be the Grand Parade of all animals and the champions will be an-nounced. This will be followed by the lunch break. After lunch, at approximately 12:30 to 1pm the children will line up outside their classrooms and parents are invited to walk with their child’s class to view the displays. Once all classes have been around, a bell will ring to signal the end of the day, chil-dren can then collect their displays to take home.
