First Reading� �� 1 Kings 17:10�16�

In those days, Elijah the prophet went to Zarephath. As he

arrived at the entrance of the city, a widow was gathering

sticks there; he called out to her, "Please bring me a small

cupful of water to drink." She left to get it, and he called out

after her, "Please bring along a bit of bread." She answered,

"As the LORD, your God, lives, I have nothing baked; there is

only a handful of flour in my jar and a little oil in my jug. Just

now I was collecting a couple of sticks, to go in and prepare

something for myself and my son; when we have eaten it, we

shall die." Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as

you propose. But first make me a little cake and bring it to

me. Then you can prepare something for yourself and your

son. For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'The jar of flour

shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day

when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'" She left and did

as Elijah had said. She was able to eat for a year, and he and

her son as well; the jar of flour did not go empty, nor the jug

of oil run dry, as the LORD had foretold through Elijah. �

Second Reading�� Hebrews 9:24�28��

Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of

the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear

before God on our behalf.� Not that he might offer himself

repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the

sanctuary with blood that is not his own; if that were so, he

would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of

the world.� But now once for all he has appeared at the end of

the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice.� Just as it is

appointed that human beings die once, and after this the

judgment, so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of

many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to

bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. �

Gospel� � � � � � � Mark 12:38�44�

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds,

"Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes

and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in

synagogues,� and places of honor at banquets. They devour

the houses of widows and, as a pretext recite lengthy

prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation."

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the

crowd put money into the treasury.� Many rich people put

in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two

small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to

himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor

widow put in more than all the other contributors to the

treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus

wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she

had, her whole livelihood."�

Prayer for Families: We bless your name, O Lord, for

sending your Son Jesus to be born of Mary to become part of

a human family, so that, as he lived and grew, he would

experience the sorrows and joys of family life. We ask you,

Lord, to bless, protect, and watch over our families at Christ

the King. Keep, we pray, in a bond of love all husbands and

wives who are united in the covenant of Marriage, so that, as

you make their love fruitful, they may overcome every

obstacle and become witnesses to your love for the world.

On June 16 and June 23, 2021, we saw over 100 Christ the King

parishioners a�end our innova�on workshops.� Here we were led to think

big about our future as a parish, as a school and as campus

ministry.� Literally hundreds of ideas were voiced, needs iden�fied, and

challenges presented.� Over the last two months a representa�ve team of 15

have been mulling over the insights gained from June to come up with some

ac�on items that correspond best with our mission and can be most easily

implemented.��

Here is our mission/vision statement:��

�

Christ the King is a vibrant Catholic community that interconnects parish,

school and campus ministry. We strive to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ

through missionary discipleship.�

�

Everything we do as a parish, as a school, and as campus ministry should

lead us closer to this vision statement.� It is clear through this statement, and

has been reflected in our work as an innova�on team, that we want to

con�nually be mindful and united with one another in these three areas of

parish life.� The school is a huge part of our parish mission and has been

since our incep�on.� Campus ministry has a rich past, but is somewhat new

in our inten�onality as a parish.� An awareness of our united mission has

been a focus of our innova�on team.��

Currently our team is working on just a few items, or MVP’s (Minimally

Viable Products), that have come to the surface.� I’d like to share two of

these ideas with you today.� First, we are working on the way we welcome

new people to the parish, school and campus ministry.� We’ve shared some

good best prac�ces about ways to welcome newcomers to Christ the King

and make sure they feel welcomed and connected; this was also the impetus

for the “welcoming team” op�on for volunteers on the ministry fair

form!� Second, we’ve worked on having a few connected events that engage

all areas of parish/school/campus ministry life.� The food truck picnic was a

great start and we hope to have more events like that.� This connectedness

is also reflected in a simple thing like a logo.� I hope you’ve no�ced our

circular logo with the outline of CTK church that is being used across all

ministries.� We are also considering technologies to be�er communicate to

the en�re CTK community and keep us all aware of the connected events

happening at Christ the King.��

We have more ideas we are working on and are excited to con�nue ac�ng

on them!� This team strives to meet once a month to work on some of these

goals and share new ideas.� While big ini�a�ves are welcome down the road,

the wisdom of this approach is to start small.� It is inten�onally called a

Minimally Viable Product.� This allows it to be manageable to get off the

ground at li�le to no monetary cost while using people’s passion and

ingenuity as a resource.� We’ve also given ourselves great freedom to fail!� If

an idea is from the Lord and aligned with His will, it will con�nue and grow;

but if not, we must let it fail! � I’m so grateful for this team and this place

that that is truly innova�ve in proclaiming the same Gospel we’ve always

been striving to live as Catholics.��

�

Con�nue to pray for Christ the King and keep a look out for the small ways

we can best love God and others and live out our mission!�

National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated Nov. 7�13,

2021, is a celebration dedicated to promote vocations in

parishes throughout the U.S. We will have Spiritual Bouquet

cards and address stickers in the community center in

November. Please pray for our seminarians and all those

discerning their vocations. Send them a note letting them know

they are in our prayers. ��

10am Mass November 14th:��

All singers in 6th�12th grade are invited to sing at the 10am

mass on Nov. 14th.� Please arrive by 9:15am to

practice.� Bring a friend! �

Error in the Ministry Schedule��

There was an error in the new Ministry Schedule. There are

new printed ones out, and it is also re�listed on the website.��

Food Drive��

During November, Christ the King Parish and Christ the King

School are partnering to collect non�perishable food items for

the Food Pantry. Students are encouraged to bring things to

school during November. On Grandparents’ Day, Wednesday,

November 24th Grandparents and students may obtain a non�

perishable item to school Mass.� If you can bring more than

one item, please send them to school.� This way, if someone

cannot contribute, each student will still give an item at Mass.

Thank you for your past support. Suggested items: Canned

fruits and vegetables, canned meat, cereal, boxed dinners,

cake mix, soup, and pasta. �
