Join the University Club Foundation for
A Celebration of New York State History Month
Though New York State History Month was established in by an act ofthe Legislature in 1997, for many years people lamented the lack of program-
ming to mark it. In 2014, the University Club Foundation changed that by hosting a series of eventscelebrating the history of New York State. We are proud to say that the tradition continues in 2015.
Founded on the belief that each generation has a responsibility to embrace, preserve and promote its sharedhistory, the University Club of Albany Foundation, Inc. was formed in early 2009 to recognize and maintain
the unique historic and architectural significance of the University Club building and property, its historicneighborhood, the city of Albany, and the state of New York where it has been located since its inception in
1901. New York State History Month is the perfect opportunity to do that!
This year’s celebration begins with Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan on Wednesday, Novem-
ber 4, 12 noon - 1:00 p.m. Mayor Sheehan will discuss Albany's rich history and pro-vide an update on the role heritage tourism will play in the city's future. 152ND ANNIVERSARY OF GETTSYBURG ADDRESS
Four score and seven years ago our fa-
thers brought forth on this continent, a
new nation, conceived in Liberty, and ded-
icated to the proposition that all men are
created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war,
testing whether that nation, or any nation
so conceived and so dedicated, can long
endure. We are met on a great battle- field
of that war. We have come to dedicate a
portion of that field, as a final resting
place for those who here gave their lives
that that nation might live. It is altogether
fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate-- we can not consecrate -- we can not
hallow -- this ground. The brave men, liv-
ing and dead, who struggled here, have
consecrated it, far above our poor power
to add or detract. The world will little
note, nor long remember what we say
here, but it can never forget what they did
here. It is for us the living, rather, to be
dedicated here to the unfinished work
which they who fought here have thus far
so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be
here dedicated to the great task remaining
before us--
that from these honored dead
we take increased devotion to that cause
for which they gave the last full measure
of devotion -- that we here highly resolve
that these dead shall not have died in vain
-- that this nation, under God, shall have a
new birth of freedom -- and that govern-
ment of the people, by the people, for the
people, shall not perish from the earth.
Abraham Lincoln, November 19, 1863

University Club!
The holidays are fast approaching and it’s the perfect time to show our appreciation to the fan-tastic staff at the University Club. The club holdsa special place in our hearts and our lives because
of their kindness and care.
I hope you will join me in making a donation tothe Employee Holiday Fund. You will find a pledge card enclosed with this month’s billingstatement. Contributing to the fund is a tangibleway to let our loyal staff know how much weappreciate their efforts on our behalf. Though wesee many of them on a daily basis, there are oth-ers who work behind the scenes making sure eve-rything runs smoothly and the club just wouldn’t be the same without all of them.
Thank you for your generosity,
Amy Hines-Kramer, Chair
