On Wednesday, 13th November, Mme Isabelle Faure, the Director General of Alliance Française, Australia, in Canberra, met with members of our local committee in order to familiarise herself with the activities of our Alliance. Some of the regular and more recent events were outlined and these included pétanque, conversations au café, Bastille Day lunch at Mimosa restaurant, Moules et Frites lunch at The Wharf, occasional French films and a French immersion weekend. She was also given the latest copy of La Mouette. The current ‘non teaching’ status of our Alliance Française – in that we do not offer French language In   the   back:   Barry,  Mme   Faure,  Denise,  Margaret  classes – was explained to Mme Faure. This was not                  In  front:  Julie,  Davina,  Gai,  Kerry,  Clive considered a problem, as there are a number of AFs in Australia that also do not offer these courses. – Mme Faure’s visit concluded with dinner at Pier One and a very strong endorsement for the Alliance Française de la Côte de Saphir with its many cultural activities and active members.

Alex Stuart Quintet at Windsong Pavilion - a review by Neil Porter

Paris-based Alex Stuart and his Australian band entertained a full house, including quite a few members from both the Sapphire Coast and Eurobodalla Alliance Française, on October 26th as part of his Australian tour to launch his “Place To Be” album. The album was recorded with Alex’s French band in Paris.

The crowd thoroughly enjoyed Alex’s fluid compositions and the virtuoso and ensemble talents of his supporting musicians - some of the very best in Australia.

Alex’s lyrical and dazzling solos and effortless rhythmic guitar were highlights, showing why his new album has received such rave reviews in the French musical press. His welcome in French to the Alliance members present was appreciated.

The concert was followed by wine and hors d’oeuvres, and an opportunity to chat with Alex and the band.
