FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT

Straight Lines

"God writes straight with crooked lines," the saying goes. The power of Paul's testimony that everything is junk but knowledge of Jesus and the power of his resurrection is a straight enough message. And, God knows, Paul had a crooked journey before his blinding insight straight from God. Through Isaiah, God reminds us all that the past great works were as nothing compared to the new creation. "Can't you see it?" we are asked, as if we are still wandering along our crooked lines.

And there is no straighter line than that between the woman whose misery is intense and the God whose mercy in Jesus is deeper and more acute. You just can't beat this kind of good news.

OUR LENTEN SOUP & FELLOWSHIP! Every Friday during Lent from 5-7pm in the Parish Hall

Join us for homemade soup and fellowship as we take our Lenten journey as a parish family. Young, old, married, divorced, single or widowed, all are welcome! Enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and some crusty bread – and the warmth and companionship offered here every Friday evening. Free will donations are forwarded to help those in need.

Can you help? If you can make a pot of meatless soup on any of those Fridays, please sign up at the table in the Gathering Space. Bless you!

PARISH LENTEN RETREAT MONDAY & TUESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

Our rescheduled Parish Lenten Retreat dates with Fr. Tony Ciorra are Monday and Tuesday,

March 21 & 22, at 7:30pm. Fr . Tony will provide great spiritual fuel as we journey toward the Cross and

Resurrection during the holiest of weeks!

OPPORTUNTIES FOR CONFESSION

As part of the Welcome Home to Healing initiative, this last Monday, March 14, 7pm—8:30pm, in every Catholic Church in our Diocese.

Join us for our Lenten Penance Services, this Wednesday, March 16, at 12:30pm (following our 12:10 PM Mass), or in the evening at 7:30pm (meditative service with music and benediction).

Reconciliation any Saturday at 12:45 PM in our church.

Come to Reconciliation as a family, or invite a friend who may not have had the opportunity to go to Confession in some time. Experience the gracious mercy of God!

We invite all children to attend our supervised EASTER EGG HUNT

Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10am on our church grounds. Rain or Shine!

Ages 5 to 8 will have their own space. Isn't that great?!

Ages 4 and under will laugh, cheer & create such a thunder!

DO YOU ATTEND OUR SUNDAY, 10:30am MASS REGULARLY?

If so, we are in urgent need of your help! Due to a minister’s relocating to out-of-state, we are seeking two willing souls to help in our Christ Corner Gift Shop after the 10:30 Mass on Sunday. It’s a great way to meet new parishioners and be a helpful presence to all. We hope to have at least two ministers to fill that role so that weekends “on

duty” can be alternated. If you would like to help, your parish will be grateful! Please call Jean at 973-538-1358, ext. 122 or via e-mail: [email protected].

RCIA: WELCOME!

We ask all to say a special prayer for Rick Magennis, who will be welcomed into the

Church and receive his Confirmation at the Easter Vigil Mass, Saturday, March 26. He

has studied and prayed loyally and we look forward to his joining us fully at that time!

The time commitment is not significant, and the benefits are great! You would be supporting our clergy by working with the couple and wedding party through their rehearsal, and would be on hand to assist for the nuptial Mass. Training and guidance will be provided! If you are a people person, are organized, and feel called to be a source of vital support for the sacrament of marriage, please call Maria in the parish office at 973-538-1358, ext. 100, or via e-mail: [email protected].
