Past District Governor Phillip Skelton
Phillip is member of the Rotary Club of Perth
And his presentation of the background to the beginning of the Great War
Was not only very informative but full of interesting facts and figures
Phillip encouraged members to read more on the subject
In this book by Les Carlyon
Our second speaker Warrant Officer Class 2
Stephen White
Stephen talk on the ANZAC Spirit was most inspiring
We learnt not only what it meant to us
But what it meant to him personally
And the mate ship and Camaraderie in the ranks off all forces during conflicts
We were treated to the story of his uncle who was a batman
to an officer in the trenches of Gallipoli
Squadron Leader [retired] Paul Falconer- West recited an anonymous poem
Which is published below
Over the last few years, if you saw a yellow Tiger Moth
flying around Perth, it was quite likely being flown
by Squadron Leader Paul Falconer-West
. Paul's talents range from flying, to Russian Cossack dancing,
although his main area of expertise is aeronautical engineering (weapons).
Paul has had a highly successful career in the RAAF,
the Reserve, and several years with the Australian Air Force Cadets.
Paul was also the RAAF Liaison Officer with the RAAF Association
Poem
Chief Petty Officer Craig Weller
Since 1900 1.5 million Australian Men and Women
have served in 8 wars or conflicts
Over 100,000 have lost their lives
200,000 or more were wounded
And 30,000 were taken prisoner
On April 25th, 2016
ANZAC Day
was commemorated for the first time
Born from the Ashes of the Gallipoli campaign
came a force that would define a nation
On this day we celebrate the ANZAC sprit of
Courage endurance mateship and sacrifice
And thanks to their sacrifice’s we are able
to enjoy a life of freedom today
On ANZAC Day
Be proud
Be grateful
Be joyful and happy to be Australian
Remember the past and be thankful for those
that continue to protect us
And give thanks to the next generation
that will make their nation proud
