1 (12-page document – please read all) Dear Applicant: We appreciate your interest in the Municipal Police Academy. HACC - Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex is an Act 120 certified Academy. All municipal police officers are mandated to complete academy training in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Two full-time (starting January and June) and one part-time (starting January) Academies will be scheduled annually. Note: U. S. Citizenship is required; (“Green Cards” are NOT acceptable). There are three options for enrollment. 1. Be hired and sworn in as a municipal police officer or county detective agency and enrolled through that particular agency. Under this process, the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission pays the tuition and other expenses stipulated in their regulations. The minimum age for enrollment under this category is 18; however, the minimum age for employment is set by the employing agency. 2. Be hired and enrolled by a public safety agency that is not funded by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. Examples of such agencies are the Pennsylvania Capitol Police, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), college campus public safety officers, etc. The employing agency is responsible for tuition payment and is required to forward to HACC a written authorization to bill the agency. If an applicant should fail either or both tests, fees will be charged each time the test is retaken. * The application packet contains forms to be completed, signed and turned in to our office plus the psychological testing form, Academy application fee is $25.00.

*Please note that full-time Academy cadets are not permitted to be employed, to ensure successful completion of this intensive program.

Cadets who successfully complete the Police Academy curriculum are eligible for 21 academic transfer credit hours if they enroll in the Criminal Justice program at HACC/Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. The Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex of HACC - Central Pennsylvania’s Community College is accepting applications for the scheduled Police Academies.

As the need for educational and training of municipal police officers increases, the Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex (PLEC) at HACC - Central Pennsylvania’s Community College continues to meet this need as a certified police-training center under the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC).

INSTRUCTION Currently the HACC Police Academy will offer a 24-week full-time course of instruction designed to provide the recruit with the initial skills and information necessary to begin his/her police career. This curriculum will be 924 hours for the full-time &/or part-time 2018 classes. The course of instruction consists of all major phases of police service and includes a significant component of “situational” training. The curriculum taught conforms to the MPOETC standards. Cadets who complete the Police Academy curriculum are eligible for 21 academic credit hours if they enroll in the Criminal Justice program at HACC - Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. The only cost for the cadet is a registration fee.

CERTIFICATION

The Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission, upon successful completion of the course, will certify each in-service police graduate.

Pre-service graduates must make application to the MPOETC when a police department hires them. Pre-service graduates cannot function as police officers until they receive their certification from the MPOETC.

The certificate awarded is not one of attendance, but of successful completion.

All in-service applicants must comply with the MPOETC application procedures.

FACULTY The instructors are dedicated professionals possessing considerable academic and practical experience. Ninety percent of the faculty have served or are serving in law enforcement positions.

POLICE ACADEMY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Above, please find a scale for scoring the Police Academy Physical Requirements module. Note the age and gender categories utilized in determining scores. The minimum Academy entrance requirement is the 30th percentile or 65 percent in each category. In order to pass the final test administered at the conclusion of the physical fitness program, cadets must attain a minimum score of the 50th percentile or 75 percent. Pre-service applicants are required to participate in the physical fitness testing at HACC - Central Pennsylvania's Community College. This testing has been made available to in-service applicants; however, police agencies may make other arranges to have the testing completed elsewhere, within the established guidelines of the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission The Academy physical fitness program is a progressive process, scheduled twice a week and designed to condition cadets so that they meet a minimum qualifying score at the conclusion of the program. Both pre-service and in-service applicants are hereby advised to have a physical examination and begin a physical fitness program prior to attending the Academy to ensure meeting the minimum physical fitness requirements.
