Number Day
We are a week away from our Number day, on Friday 1st February 2019! The aim of the day is to support a charity (NSPCC) as well as have fun with numbers. Math lessons on this day will include activities and maths games. The children will come to school in their own clothes which has a number on it - the more creative the better. We will be collecting a donation of £1 towards the charity.

On Thursday 7th February 2019 from 3.30 – 8.00PM, we will hold Parents Evening in the Main Hall and
Lodge. We have time slots for each pupil that can be booked via Parentmail from 10am on Thursday
24th January. If you do not have a Parentmail account please give your email address to the front office,
and they will create an account for you. If you need assistance in booking a slot on Parentmail, please
speak to the front office.
This week in Saplings class we have been
learning about traditional tales. The stories
that we have been exploring this week are
Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little
Pigs. We have created a story map to help
us remember the sequence of the story and
key phrases and words. In the outdoor area
we have been exploring the effects of the
weather. We found the natural objects fro-
zen in the tough tray and were very excited
to explore the icy and snow!
Following a successful ‘Pizza Party’ on Thursday 17th January 2019., we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a wonderful meal on Thursday 14th February.
We would like to thank parents and carers for encouraging their chil-dren to have a school dinner and we hope this will continue.

Girls Football
On Monday 14th January, the girls' football team took part in the league, playing 3 games with 3 different teams. The first game was against Barnehurst. They persevered as a team and worked hard, with some great tackles and saves from both sides. In the end the score was 0-0. With pride, they moved onto the next game against Bedonwell. Although they pushed for some great passes and opportunities, they unfor-tunately lost the match. This did not stop the team from trying their best, with some great defence from Isabella and Jane in the final game against Brampton, as well as some fantastic saves from Bailey. Urenna, Cocco, Olivia, Ruby and Emily played fantastically with each other in midfield and up front, finding space where possible and trying their very best to score a goal. Unfortunately the game did not go in our favour, but they showed such great values and they had such high spirits. Well done girls. You wore the school football kit with pride.
What's happening In Hawthorn?
Hawthorn have really enjoyed learning about
healthy living and the importance of looking after
ourselves. We investigated and discussed the im-
portance of looking after our teeth and the im-
portance of a healthy and well-balanced diet. We
have been very busy in Maths learning about frac-
tions and we can now find a fraction of an amount
or a number! We also had an exciting visit from Ex-
plore Learning this week! We listened to a variety
of different types of music and discussed our feel-
ings and what types of music we enjoyed listening
to!
Keep up the fan-
tastic work Haw-
thorn class!
Mrs Pickles
This half term, Year 5 have been using Talk 4
Writing to write a tale of fear. We first learnt a
story by heart and then used our ideas to create
a new one. We are improving our writing by us-
ing powerful verbs, expanded noun phrases and
the power of 3 (Ask us what this is all about!.
Mrs Motton
Lego Club is now targeting different year groups on a Monday after school, this half term it’s Year 5 and they have been enjoying making models to show and tell other group members at the end of the afternoon.
De Bonos Thinking Hats
This weeks focus hat has been the
red hat. The red hat represents our
feelings. Next week our focus will be
the yellow hat. The yellow
hat explores values and benefits.

Bowles Trip
Last week at Bowles Outdoor Camp we had lots of fun. We slept in dormito-
ries and we got to sleep in bunk beds. We also did really fun activities such
as: Rock Climbing, Skiing, Harrison Rocks ( long walks and climbing/sliding on
rocks), Kayaking and lots more fun activities. I enjoyed going to Bowles be-
cause the activities were fun and I made lots of new friends, it was a great
experience and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to stay for 1 more day! It was
the best 3 days so far and the best 2 nights ever, instead of a campfire, we
watched a movie and the second night we had a quiz night with hot choco-
late. Our team name was the Braniacs. It was such fun and I wish I could go
again.
