MOTORKHANA (JONE’S PROPERTY, GLENBERVIE – 12TH NOVEMBER 2017)

Well, sadly the suby rally car is still parked in the garage awaiting attention after it developed an exhaust leak at Doctors Hill Road Hill Climb, so our other Impreza (RS) won the opportunity for a ride on a trailer and to get a thrashing from all 4 racing members of the Smitheram family!!

There was an interesting turnout of newcomers to these events – most of them already club members but just coming along for a Sunday drive to spectate. Some braved up and had a go in their prized cars, including Roy Goodwin in his Fraser kit car, which appeared to be very close to the ground, but managed to get through the day without any damage from holes in the paddock. It was also good to see Richard Yallop giving it a go in his newly acquired rally car – maybe you need to turn off the anti-lag for these events!

Val and Steve decided it was time to shake things up a bit and have some tests which we haven’t seen or done in a long while, including a backing one – that one certainly scored some groans when people looked at the picture to see where they were heading!! Of course all was forgiven when we finished off the day with the old favourite – increasing circles!!

Clearly all competitors were most on form at the beginning of the day because there were no maximum times in the first test, but it gradually went downhill from there. There was a disadvantage to the first competitor on each new test, as they went slip sliding their way around the course, to flatten the grass and show the way for the rest.

We were lucky with the weather, as it had been quite wet in the weeks leading up to the event. The owner Derek Jones said he wondered whether he was going to have a paddock available as only about 3 weeks earlier, the whole paddock was under water.

As always, a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, leisurely drive down from Kerikeri, skidding around on the grass and sharing car stories with likeminded people.

Thanks to Derek for letting us rip up his paddock again, and thanks to Val and Steve for another well-run event.

MAKE SURE your name is down as a helper prior to turning up to the event you want to enter, otherwise you won't be competing in that event. If you are a Speed Event Organiser, this is classified as your help.

HELPERS LIST SO FAR: The events are slowly getting filled up, and it is looking like we may only need your help at one of your chosen events. Some member’s names are shown in two events, but this will change with more members selecting which event they will help out at. So, for those who haven't yet replied, don't look at the list as if an event might be full and has enough helpers, because your name will substitute another helpers name. We hope that makes sense.

So, if you are planning on doing a Hillclimb event for this season we need your nomination for the events you are able to help out at. This system is making it a lot easier on organisers of each event prior to the event happening. If you also know you can help out at the Ruakaka Street Sprint, or Ruarangi Road, please let us know and we will put your name down on the list.
