Dear Readers,
One of the most rewarding things I have ever done is to put together edi-
tions of this magazine with all of our contributors. Not only is this a work of
passion because of my love for Juventus but it also gives me the opportu-
nity to get closer to the members of our club. They share everything with
me: pictures, histories and even their transformations. They send me pic-
tures of their newborn in a Juventus onesie because they are proud. And I am happy to see it
because I can feel their enthusiasm. They tell me stories of when they were at a game and
the players first walked onto the field. I've heard these stories in many variations before but I
am still happy to hear them because I can smell the grass and hear the roar of the crowd with
them. Each experience seems new to me. I never get tired of it. That's why it’s so much fun for
me to put this magazine together. I get to “package” the joy and send it around to everyone.
If you're a member, then these could be your experiences. And if you're not a member....my
God....why aren't you? It's amazing!

WHAT’S EXCITING
The Juventus Official Fan Club Toronto finished
it’s 2018-2019 membership campaign with the
highest membership count of all JOFCs in the
western hemisphere, third in the world. Con-
gratulations to all our members for making this
club extra special.
WHAT’S CHANGED
In December we had both Lina Tullo and
Vince Carlucci retire from the Board. They
have both earned their personal time, particu-
larly Vince who has spent many, many (did we
say many?) years of service on the Board. We
wish them both the best!
Around the same time, in heartbreaking in-
stant, we lost our dearest friend and Board
Member Franco Luciani. As one of the found-
ing members, Franco’s contribution to our club
is immeasurable. We will forever feel his ab-
sence and we will hold on to the memories of
the time spent with him fondly (p.16).
WHAT’S NEW
It became necessary to
reach out to our mem-
bers to fill the empty
spaces left on our Board
by the three departures.
In February we wel-
comed new Board mem-
bers John Groe, Daniel
Pirillo and Sonia Martelli
(right). We cannot wait for the new ideas, per-
spectives and enthusiasm that they bring to
our club!
The Juventus Official Fan Club Toronto’s Mem-
bership Campaign for the 2019-2020 is fast ap-
proaching (in May!!!) You can join us by visiting
our webpage at www.jofctoronto.com.
Download your membership form, fill it out,
email it in and pay - all online! You can even
join us “old-school” if you’d like: print out your
form and mail it in with your payment. While
you’re at our site, check out our club news, in-
formation, galleries and back-issues of zeb.

At the end of last year, members of the JOFCT Board worked tirelessly to enhance our club with a
new item: our own official scarf! Heavy knit, in black and white with our city name on it, this official
scarf now enables you to show your pride for the team and membership to the Juventus Official
Fan Club Toronto! It’s so awesome that we’re already on our second batch order!
Yet some people have asked us: Where can you take this scarf? What can you do with it? We
thought you’d never ask! For this issue of zeb, we decided that we’d play a little game of “Spot the
Scarf!” As you flip through our newest issue, we’ll let you know where you can “Spot the Scarf”.
Then come back and ask us this question again.

My dear friends,
241. That is our current count of
registered club members. This is
an enormous achievement. A
growth of 130% from less than a
year ago. We’re the largest Ju-
ventus Official Fan Club in the
Western Hemisphere, and third
largest international club in the
world. We are also one of the
most active on the planet. We
are an integral part of a very spe-
cial family: JUVENTUS.
Our 2018 Trophy Tour last June
was a huge success. For many of
our members, taking pictures with
Mauro Camoranesi and Fabrizio
Ravanelli and holding the
Scudetto and Coppa Italia was a
dream come true. We look for-
ward to the opportunity to hold
another such event this year.
The 2017-18 season concluded
with our 7th straight national title
and 4th straight domestic cup
and, in even bigger news, we
were winners in the transfer win-
dow as well. Thanks to the bold
vision of our President Andrea Ag-
nelli and team management, we
acquired Cristiano Ronaldo: CR7,
Mr. Champions League, and to
some, the GOAT. This is
something that was thought
to be impossible a few short
years ago.
Last season our team experi-
enced many accomplish-
ments but Italian soccer also ex-
perienced a tragic loss: the
death of Fiorentina captain
Davide Astori. I was in Torino for
the Juventus vs Udinese match
last March when the whole sta-
dium came together to sing
along to the lyrics of Lucio Dalla,
in solidarity with Davide’s family
and Fiorentina. RIP Davide.
We also lost of one our members
of the JOFC Toronto family. This
past October long time board
member Franco Luciani passed
away. Franco was a big part of
our club, a friend to everyone
and was loved by all. Franco is
surely up in the stars with his idol
Omar Sivori. RIP my friend. You will
never be forgotten.
Recently we appointed three
new directors of the board. We
welcome John Groe, Sonia Mar-
telli and Daniel Pirillo to the JOFC
Board of Directors and, on behalf
of all of us, we thank outgoing
directors Vince Carlucci and Lina
Tullo for their hard work.
Our beloved “Old Lady“ has
reached the quarter finals of the
Champions League thanks to a
great comeback against Atletico
Madrid. Let’s hope we raise the
trophy in Madrid later this Spring.
In the meantime, we’re also on
pace for our 8th straight
scudetto.
This season, thanks to our Director
of Business Development, Joe
Ciraco, our club has begun a
partnership with DAZN, Canada’s
exclusive broadcaster of the
Champions League. Our club has
appeared on “Box to Box” and
other DAZN programming includ-
ing interviews with our club mem-
bers. Furthermore, in June we will
be having our annual “Black and
White” picnic at Boyd Park in
Woodbridge.
In conclusion I want to thank all
of our sponsors who make what
we do possible, especially this
edition of zeb magazine. I’d also
like to thank our club Secretary,
Tiziana Pace, for her meticulous
work in organizing the articles
and pictures in this magazine. I’d
also like to thank the Board of Di-
rectors for their time and con-
tribution this past year. But I
especially would like to give
a big thank you to every sin-
gle one of you, the members,
for making this club what it is
today: AMAZING.
Fino alla fine…

Like our beloved team, when we stick together, we are stronger.
So in case you missed something, this is what wéve been up to in the last few months.
October 14, 2018
Our Annual General Meeting is the time when JOFCT members come together to help shape the
direction of the club. Our last meeting included both a review of the past year and a look forward
to what’s planned for the year to come. Comments and feedback were gathered as it’s our
members who come out to the meeting who make a difference!
December 1, 2018
A Christmas party is a great place to let your family and friends know how much they mean to you.
The JOFCT helped facilitate that by providing members with a wonderful event at
The Fossacesia Club, complete with dinner, dancing and raffle prizes.
If you didn’t make it out last year, be sure to keep your eye out on our website and
social media accounts for announcements of our events throughout the year.
You just have to come out to watch a game at our clubhouse at the Trio Sportsplex in Vaughan.
Talk about a family atmosphere! Be a be a part of the action.
Some scenes from our gatherings at our Club Headquarters
at the Trio Sportplex. Always a great crowd! Always a good
time! And every now and then, a special guest will pop in to
say hi. (Roberto Bettega with President Joe Martelli, top
right).
Though his chair is empty, we can still feel Franco Luciani
watching the games with us. RIP, dear friend.

This could have been you! If you are a member of the JOFC Toronto then you have the opportunity to get tickets
to Juventus exhibition games, regular season games, cup games, stadium tours and more!
These are just some of the pictures of our members out and about, mingling at various Juventus events.
The enthusiasm, passion and smiles in the pictures speak for themselves.
Which brings us to the question: Why isn’t this you?!
In July 2018, Sonia Martelli made the trek out to Atlanta to see Juventus. That ended up being quite fruitful. Not only was she able to
watch the bianconeri on the field, but she was able to get some fantastic pictures. (Clockwise from top left) Sonia with Coach Massimo
Allegri, Claudio Marchisio, Federico Bernardeschi, Edgar Davids, Pavel Nedved and Lobo Silva Alex Sandro. Way to go, Sonia!

che erano fondamentali per il nostro club.

an

L’estate scorsa é venuto a man-
care Rocco Lofranco, fondatore e
primo presidente dello Juventus
Club di Toronto. Qui vogliamo
brevemente ricordare a tutti i lettori
la sua brillante carrier.
Rocco é arrivato in Canada “con
i pantaloncini corti” all’inizio degli
anni 50. All’eta’di 25 anni é diven-
tato cittadino canadese e il 26 feb-
braio, 1967 si é sposato con Tina e
hanno avuto quattro figli: Camilla,
Antonella, Franco e Alessandro.
In-
contrasto, Rocco, all’eta’ di sedici anni, appunto
Juventus Roberto Bettega di To-
ronto , il 10 Ottobre 2002.
All’ inizio del nostro sodalizio,
abbiamo avuto tante difficolta’,
anche finanziarie, pero’ Rocco é
stato sempre presente grazie alla
sua generosita’. Ci sono tanti rac-
conti e tanti aneddoti, dal suo
primo incontro a New York con “l’
Avvocato” ( Giovanni Agnelli),
all’amicizia di Boniperti, Sivori e
Bettega.
vocato, Sean Connery, Boniperti e Henry Kissinger,
a quell tempo Segretario di Stato Americano e
grande amico di Giovanni Agnelli. Veramente una
bella e meritata soddisfazione per Rocco. Tutto
oreficenze insignite a Rocco:
• Decorato con Medaglia d’argento dalla
Regina Elisabetta II , 1975
tutti dello Juventus Official Fan Club Toronto.
Rocco, ringrazio Iddio di averci fatto incontrare e
di essere stato un tuo amico.
Riposa in pace.

Conobbi Franco Luciani negli anni settanta a St.
Eravamo giovani e in poco tempo siamo diven-
tati amici. Avevamo tante cose in comune; tutti
Franco era una bravissima persona e, so-
ada.
col club fino all'ultimo.
Franco ti ho voluto bene. Mi mancherai molto.

Ronaldo Scores a Hat-Trick as Juventus Stuns Atletico Madrid
and Grasps Its Place in the Champions League Quarter-Finals
Wherever Juventus is, hope never dies. With the first leg in Madrid finishing 2-0 in favour of Athletico,
Juventus walked into the return game in Torino facing an uphill battle. But the bianconeri were quick
to get on the scoreboard with a 27th minute Cristiano Ronaldo header from a Bernadeschi cross.
Ronaldo doubled the score seven minutes into the second half, bringing the aggregate to 2-2 in
front of a raging home crowd. A take-down of Bernardeschi in the Athletico box in the closing min-
utes of the game earned the Juventus a penalty shot, which Ronaldo seemed to take with nerves of
steel, and place in the back of the net. The 3-2 aggregate continuing the dream for another round.
Not only is Ronaldo the undisputed Man of the Match but the game itself becomes the come-back
of the year.

Dear Cristiano,
I still remember the 2018 Champions League Quarter-final first leg vividly. Our club Juventus was
scrambling to get back into the game against Real Madrid. Then, in a flash, your remarkable feat of
athleticism, a bicycle kick, that bicycle kick. My jaw dropped and I knew we were dealing with a
legend, and as you know the entire Allianz Stadium through a standing ovation thought that as well.
Months later the impossible became a reality. After weeks of speculation and incredulity, myself
and the members of our fan club here in Toronto were sent into delirium. It was ecstasy. The best
player in the world and of the greatest of all time was coming to Italy, he was coming to Juventus.
We are one of the most historic football clubs and have great ambitions. We deserve to sit at the
table of the elite, but we were missing something. We needed a mega star on and off the pitch,
who could take us to the next level and now we do. We’re fortunate to get to watch you week in
and week out here in Toronto where you have won the hearts and minds of our hundreds of mem-
bers. The job is not finished however. At Juventus our expectation is win all the time and win every-
thing in sight. The Champions League has eluded us for 23 years at the time of writing. Juventus has
come agonizingly close and we’re
tired of heartbreak. The come from
behind victory over Atletico Madrid
was one of the greatest matches I’ve
ever seen. You showed the world
once again that you thrive on the big
stage, and you exemplified our motto
Fino Alla Fine. At the time of writing
the job is not done. It will be a tough
time ahead to win the Champions
League but with a champion like you
on our side our side we have hope.
On behalf of all of us here in Toronto,
obrigado Cristiano, and remember
contamos consigo (we’re counting
on you!)
Sincerely,
Joe Ciraco

Cari giornalisti,

Momenti storici
della nostra
Vecchia Signora
10. Juventus-Bayern 2-2 (23
febbraio 2016) Tipica gara dai
due volti della Juventus. Quando
tutto sembra compromesso, con
gli ospiti avanti di due gol, i
bianconeri dimostrano di aver
acquisito la giusta mentalità
europea e nell’ultima mezz’ora
trovano la forza per reagire,
raggiungendo il pareggio con
Dybala e Sturaro e sfiorando
addirittura la vittoria nel finale di
partita.
9. Bayern-Juventus 4-2 (16 marzo
2016) Delusione cocente, ma
sconfitta a testa alta. Sessanta
minuti di straordinaria Juve e due
reti, nel primo tempo, di Pogba e
Cuadrado mettono in crisi lo
squadrone di Guardiola. Ma i
tedeschi, sfruttando stanchezza e
disattenzioni dei nostri, riescono a
pareggiare il risultato dell’andata
nei minuti di recupero e a vincere
facile ai supplementari.
8. Tottenham-Juventus 1-2 (7
marzo 2018) Impresa in rimonta
nel tempio di Wembley, che vale
la qualificazione ai quarti di
Champions, dopo i l 2 -2
dell’andata. Pessimo primo
tempo e Spurs in vantaggio con
Son, poi la svolta con la coppia
argentina Higuain-Dybala, che
nel giro di pochi minuti, dal 64’ al
67’, ammutoliscono i tifosi inglesi
partita.
7. Real Madrid-Juventus 1-3 (11
aprile 2018) Un’altra beffa nei
minuti di recupero vanifica una
partita perfetta. Al Bernabeu due
reti di Mandzukic nel primo
tempo e una di Matuidi nella
ripresa pareggiano i tre gol
segnati dai blancos a Torino. I
supplementari sono vicini, ma a
pochi secondi dallo scadere un
fallo di Benatia su Vazquez causa
il rigore, che Ronaldo trasforma
con freddezza.
6. Borussia Dortmund-Juventus 0-
3 (18 marzo 2015) Negli ottavi di
Champions, dopo i l 2 -1
dell’andata a Torino, la partita di
ritorno in Germania viene
dominata dalla Juventus, grazie
soprattutto alle prodezze del
trascinatore Tevez. Suoi sono il
primo gol dopo soli 3 minuti con
un bolide di destro da fuori area,
l’assist per il raddoppio facile di
Morata e la rete finale.
5. Juventus-Real Madrid 2-1 (5
maggio 2015) Una Juve
impressionante per maturità
piega il Real campione in carica
nella semifinale di andata di
Champions. Nel primo tempo
Morata sfrutta una ribattuta di
Casillas su diagonale di Tevez,
ma alla prima occasione buona
Ronaldo pareggia. Nella ripresa il
numero 10 argentino si procura
un calcio di rigore, che lui stesso
mette a segno.
4. Real Madrid-Juventus 1-1 (13
maggio 2015) Notte magica per
la Juve, che torna in finale di
Champions 12 anni dopo
Manchester e 9 dopo la
retrocessione in B. Primo tempo
sofferto e gol di Ronaldo su
rigore, ma la squadra resiste
strenuamente agli attacchi del
Real, crescendo con il passare
dei minuti. Morata è l’autore del
pareggio decisivo, che manda a
casa la sua ex squadra.

3. Juventus-Barcellona 3-0 (11
aprile 2017) Vittoria schiacciante
e capolavoro tattico di Allegri,
nella notte di Paulo Dybala.
Subito la Joya mette a segno
una doppietta, al 7’ con un
sinistro da fermo a giro sul
secondo palo e al 22’ con un
tiro di prima intenzione a fil di
palo su cross basso da sinistra.
Nella ripresa il tris di Chiellini
arriva su colpo di testa da
corner.
2. Barcellona-Juventus 0-0 (19
aprile 2017) La partita che
Chiellini ha decretato come la
più rappresentativa della sua
c a r r i e r a
bianconera. Al Camp Nou il
B a r c e l l o n a s o g n a u n a
miracolosa rimonta, ma chiude
lo doppia sfida senza segnare
neanche un gol. La Juve parte
attaccando i catalani, poi si
abbassa e difende il risultato
con apparente semplicità, non
correndo mai rischi.
1. Juventus-Atletico Madrid 3-0
(12 marzo 2019) Una partita
incredibile, con una Juve messa
in campo alla perfezione, che
sovverte tutti i pronostici e
compie un’impresa strepitosa,
ribaltando il 2-0 dell’andata.
Prestazione pazzesca di tutta la
squadra, trascinata da un
Ronaldo mostruoso, che affonda
gli uomini di Simeone con due
potenti colpi di testa e il rigore
che decide la qualificazione.

We Juventus fans of North America are disappointed that our team won’t be playing on the
continent this time around, but we are happy for our overseas comrades in Asia
and we are sure that their passion and enthusiasm for the bianconeri will do us proud.

This year marks the second year that Juventus is staging an Academy Tournament. Teams from Ju-
ventus Academies from almost forty countries converge in Torino and compete tournament style. All
the teams walk into the stadium with the country they represent. Those who advance to the quarter
finals and above make it to play in Allianz Stadium all the way to the finals. They travel as a team,
sleep together as a team and play and compete to win as a team. Canada placed third last year
and is vying for first this year.

A distanza
di quasi sette anni dal suo addio
a l l a ma gl ia b ia nco nera ,
scopriamo come è proseguita la
sua vita, prima come calciatore
italiano all’estero e poi fuori dal
campo, ma sempre a stretto
contatto con il mondo del calcio.
L’ultima partita con la Juventus
Del Piero la disputa il 20 maggio
2012. Quel giorno a Roma si gioca
la sfortunata finale di Coppa Italia
con il Napoli e lui scende in
campo dal primo minuto con la
fascia di capitano, venendo
sostituito a metà del secondo
tempo. Tutta la squadra porta
sulla maglia uno speciale
distintivo, per celebrare l’addio
del suo numero 10. Sette giorni
prima l’indimenticabile saluto al
pubblico dello Juventus Stadium,
in occasione dell’incontro di
campionato con l’Atalanta, in cui
segna l’ultimo gol della sua
carriera bianconera. Uscendo dal
campo al minuto 57, viene
acclamato dai tifosi in lacrime
sugli spalti. Lui li omaggia con un
giro completo di campo, per
ringraziare tutti i settori dello
stadio, che lo applaudono
dall’inizio alla fine, mentre la
partita va avanti. Si conclude così
un lungo periodo ricco di vittorie,
iniziato nell’estate del 1993. Anni
coniato nelle sue prime stagioni a
Torino dall’avvocato Agnelli, che
di lui apprezzava l’eleganza dello
stile di gioco. Molti i record stabiliti
b ianconera. A se ttembre
annuncia di voler intraprendere
una nuova esperienza calcistica
e di vita in Australia, nella A-
League, firmando un contratto
con la squadra del Sydney FC. La
sua presenza dà molta visibilità al
campionato australiano, che
viene seguito anche dai
telespettatori italiani. Durante la
stagione realizza 14 gol in 24
partite, ma la squadra si classifica
soltanto al settimo posto, non
riuscendo ad accedere alla fase
finale a scontri diretti. L’anno
successivo viene nominato
capitano della squadra e
racimola un bottino di 10 gol e 9
assist, aiutando il Sydney FC a
conquistare il quinto posto in
classifica e l’accesso ai quarti di
finali, dove arriva l’eliminazione
da parte del Melbourne Victory.

L’estate successiva, in
attesa di decidere il suo
futuro calcistico, collabora
come inviato speciale della
piattaforma televisiva Sky,
in occasione dei mondiali di
Brasile 2014, dimostrando
davanti al microfono
competenza e la sua
consueta eleganza. Ma il
momento di chiudere la
sua avventura da calciatore non
è ancora arrivato e a fine agosto
firma un contratto di una stagione
con la neonata società indiana
del Delhi Dynamos, che milita nel
nuovo campionato dell’Indian
Super League, a cui partecipano
otto squadre. Tra i suoi avversari
trova anche David Trezeguet,
ingaggiato dal Pune City. Alex
gioca 10 delle 14 partite in
calendario, quasi mai come
titolare, ma la squadra
termina il campionato al
quinto posto, non
accedendo ai play-off.
Segna il suo unico gol
con gli arancioneri,
nonché l'ultimo della sua
carriera, il 9 dicembre
2014 contro il Chennaiyin,
su calcio di punizione. La
sua attività agonistica si
conclude così.
Smessi i panni di calciatore, Del
P iero intraprende diverse
esperienze in giro per il mondo,
venendo riconosciuto ovunque
come il simbolo del calcio italiano
e come una delle icone sportive
più amate. Sempre in continuo
i m p o r t a n t i a z i e n d e , a
promuovere iniziative solidali e a
partecipare insieme ad altri ex
c a l c i a t o r i a p a r t i t e d i
beneficenza.
vario tipo. Da alcuni anni
promuove il suo marchio di moda
AirDP, con diversi negozi aperti in
tutta Italia, dove acquistare capi
d’abbigliamento e accessori dal
design ricercato. Tra gli impegni
principali rimane la televisione:
dall’estate del 2015 torna a
lavorare con Sky Sport,
i n i z i a l m e n t e c o m e
o p i n i o n i s t a p e r i l
campionato italiano e dalla
stagione in corso anche
come commentatore delle
partite di Champions.
Infine, per non farsi
mancare niente, nell’estate
d e l 2 0 1 8 d i v e n t a
proprietario di una piccola
squadra di calcio di Los Angeles,
attraverso la Edge Americas,
società della quale è co-
fondatore insieme al socio Jeffrey
Whalen, con un’operazione
rimasta segreta fino allo scorso
febbraio. La squadra si chiama
LA10 FC e i suoi colori sociali sono
(non a caso) il bianco, il nero e il
grigio. Già alla prima stagione
vince il proprio campionato da
imbattuta, conquistando la
promozione nella
t e r z a s e r i e
americana. Proprio
per rendere merito
a tutto il team per il
t r a g u a r d o
raggiunto, Alex
decide di uscire allo
s c o p e r t o ,
ringraziando staff e
giocatori in vista
d e l l a n u o v a s t a g i o n e .
«Conquistare il primo successo da
proprietario – confessa – ha avuto
un sapore speciale, diverso,
nuovo, divertente. Un sapore che
mi piace perché mi riporta a
quando tutto era solo un gioco.»
O forse perché, per chi ha il
bianconero nel cuore, vincere
non è importante, è l’unica cosa
che conta.
Discussing how our bianconeri affect
the world around them.
Dybala explains,“When we struggle, sometimes we must wear our warrior mask to be stronger.”
The pictures below are evidence that the “Dybalamask” is being replicated around the world.
Which makes perfect sense since Juventus fans are a global group of gladiators.
