Principal’s Message:

Hello parents and friends of The Hills School. It’s been a busy few weeks and much is going on in classrooms and

other learning spaces across the school. Students and staff are settling well into new rooms and routines.

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS

At The Hills School we strive to provide an education that is relevant and meaningful to our students. We utilise the

NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum as a foundation for our teaching and learning programs. In 2021 we

are refining our individual planning processes and will be introducing a negotiated Individual Education Plan

document for our families. We will continue to hold IEP meetings, develop shared goals and seek parent feedback

on student progression as in previous years. In addition to current processes staff will provide families with an

individual plan that identifies 3 key goals for your child and any key long-term goals as negotiated. The IEP will

show your child’s progress in the particular goal and is directly linked to our reporting process. The IEP document

will be prepared after the IEP meeting and sent to families for your consideration and agreement. Our hope is that

through this communication we can strengthen our partnership with families as we all work to improve the learning

for our students. If you have any questions about this process, please see your class teacher.

GROUND WORKS

Parents may have noticed a lot of work happening to the front of the school as we have our new automatic gates

fitted. The upgrade will see both vehicle gates and the pedestrian gate converted to centrally controlled access

points. We are looking forward to the added safety and security of access for all.

P&C

The first general meeting of the P&C will be held on Monday 22 February. The P&C is an integral part of our school

and provides support for access for our students through the P&C buses. The meeting is held in the Administrative

building (Meeting Room 1) of the school and via Zoom.

Room 1 & Room 2 Chris Achampong & Irene Rostom (Teachers)

Harjit Wirring, Leevan Bromfield & Conrad Moylan (SLSOs)

Hello all and welcome to 2021. The students in Room 1 and 2 are Isabella, Aaron, Joshua, Mark, Eshan and Rhun.

We have made a great start to the year and been pleasantly surprised by the way the students have settled back into our room,

the routines, and their eagerness to learn. The Class Team and students are continuing to work on developing the many

functional life skills needed for their future. We look forward to meeting all our students’ families in the coming weeks.

Room 3 Shanna Pereira (Teacher) Kathryn Jollow & Swapna Tadepalli (SLSOs)

Students and staff in Room 3 have enjoyed an enthusiastic and energetic start to the year. We have begun our Science topic

with a study about the planets in our solar system.

We have also incorporated lots of physical activity into our daily routine including daily walks along the bike track and around

the school perimeter.

We are looking forward to a great year of learning ahead!

Room 4 Kathryn Hall (Teacher) Rebecca Taylor (SLSO)

Room 4 has had a great start to the new year. Having lots of fun getting to know each other. We started off the year learning

about where we live and celebrating Australia Day! After reading the book ‘Why I Love Australia’ and ‘I’m Australian Too’, we

enjoyed making lamington cupcakes and Australian flag crafts.

Room 17 Jenny Unsworth (Teacher) Cheryl Rogerson & Khim Halpenny (SLSO)

This week we’ve been getting to know each other and have been having a lot of fun. Every day starts with smiles and laughs!

The boys have enjoyed taking part in numerous physical activity lessons as they have so much energy to burn. It’s fantastic!

We have also started our cooking program. The boys enjoyed making a shopping list of toppings for banana pancakes and we

completed an online shopping order. Despite the healthy twist, they insisted on having ice cream. Yummy!

Room 18 Deborah Lenon (Teacher) Daniel van Kruyssen (SLSO)

We have enjoyed our first full week of 2021, and students in Room 18 have been busy meeting their new classmates, learning

new routines and exploring their classroom and playgrounds. We have been finding out our strengths and interests, our

favourite music and videos and where to store our things. We are looking forward to a year of fun and hard work as we learn

lots of new and interesting things.

Room 19 Linda Weiss (Teacher) Lorraine Kirby (SLSO)

Welcome to 2021. Students in Room 19 are: Amelie, Ciara, Tara, Sergio, Chelsea, Zikry, Ashvini and Brandon. We have had

a great start to the year. We have created covers for our communication books using the jelly plate and the die cutting

machine. We have had a big party in our room already as we celebrated Amelie’s 16th birthday.
