No. 28, 5th September, 2016
Dear Parents,
It was wonderful to see so many at the Year 1/2 Special Person morning last Thursday and then, on Friday morning, so many dads at the 3/4 at the Fathers Day Breakfast. What a treat it was for the children, to have all these very special people come to their school! Thank you so much to everyone who came along and thank you to our teachers and learning support officers for their time and efforts in ensuring it was such a special time for everyone to share.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the children who are being confirmed this Friday. This is the final step of their initiation into the Catholic Church; a journey which began with their Baptism, when their parents answered for them, and concludes now, when they can say yes for themselves. The candidates met with Monsignor Greg Bennet on Wednesday, who will be conferring the sacrament, and he was most impressed with them.
Our congratulations and best wishes are with the Farrugia family on the arrival of Lexi’s (1/2P) baby sister, Amber Jessie.

The Naplan test results for Grades 3 & 5 are available for collection from
the office on Wednesday. We ask that when reading your children’s results that you
remember that they are based on one test, on one occasion, back in May of this year. We monitor and assess your child’s progress on an ongoing basis to maintain a complete
picture of their strengths and learning needs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to make a time to speak to the classroom teacher.
Blessed are the pure in

CAR PARK RULES AMENDMENT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY………….. Car Park For the safety of all our children we ask that driver courtesy, patience and the utmost care is practised at all times. No standing
in the driveway or roundabout areas unless ALL parking spaces are taken. When you have accessed a car park, do not leave it to join the queue and DO NOT block vacant car park spaces as we need access for emergency and
delivery vehicles and buses. Blocking the driveway also means that others are unable to access available parking spaces and causes a dangerous back up of traffic in Clegg Road. Pick up and drop off on the roundabout only at the designated place. Please ensure that your child can do up their own seat belt if you are using this area, as this will ensure an uninterrupted flow.
Maximum speed anywhere in the school grounds is walking pace – our school grounds begin at the Clegg Rd entrance.
The driveway in front of the church, in front of the Presbytery carport and the driveway to the rear of the presbytery is to be kept clear at all times to allow 24hour access.
Please keep the access to the staff car park clear
When backing into allocated car parking spaces please indicate & avoid backing over two lanes from an opposite bay and ensure that your car is not overhanging the walkway.
Please depart from the car park as soon as possible after collecting your children, so that others may park in the designated areas.
The school property begins at the green gates at Clegg Rd. When departing from the school grounds, it is necessary to give way to traffic coming from the right of the roundabout at Clegg Rd. Traffic, other than school traffic, use this roundabout.
Please avoid parking on the nature strips at the front of the school or blocking the driveways of our neighbours. You may incur a fine from a visiting parking inspector.
Please be polite and respectful of everyone (including our neighbours) at ALL times. If we all cooperate the car park does work. We find that generally, the car park is virtually cleared by 3.30pm. so it may be beneficial to come a little later, rather than earlier.

Lk 14:25-33
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
All who do not renounce their possessions cannot be my disciples.
Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and spoke to them. ‘If any
man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife, children, brothers,
sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not
carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit
down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it? Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then
found himself unable to finish the work, the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a
man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again, what king marching to war against another king
would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who
advanced against him with twenty thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would
send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his
possessions.’ The Gospel of the Lord

FIELD DAY volunteers
Each year the St Mary’s P & F Committee runs a food stall at the Wandin-Silvan Field
Days. The Field Days are an opportunity for Horticultural and Farm Machinery exhibitors
to showcase their products and services to the local community. This year the event will
be held Friday October 14th (No Tuckshop) and Saturday October 15th.
We are seeking volunteers to help us run our food tent. You might be taking food orders,
flipping burgers on the BBQ or making up orders. It’s a fun day out for the volunteers and
a great way to meet some other parents from the school. We also need help loading and
unloading our equipment at the start and end of the event.
Please consider putting your name down and helping out the school with this fantastic
fundraiser. Just fill in the slip below and return to the office. We will contact you with more
information the week prior to the event. Thank you!
