DF51, DV51, DF6, DV6 frequency inverters

The need for variable speed drives is increasing consistently, for example, in optimization of manufacturing and production processes or for saving energy. Thefrequency inverters of the DF51, DF6, DV51 and DV6 series are ideally suited for thispurpose. They match the required speed of a standard three-phase asynchronousmotor to the drive requirements; be it as compact devices or modular system devices. They reliably assure the required sequence of movements of the drive motor andthus guarantee operational reliability and cost savings. A high level of functionalityneed not be complex to operate: with their user-friendly design they feature –depending on the demands of the application – differing functional characteristicsin a power range from 0.18 kW to 132 kW. Approvals from global standards allowthem to be used worldwide.

Page 4: NK8200-1150GB-online

More than ever today's machines and systems need to be optimized in order toreduce costs. In this process, the use of the right technology is a key factor, inwhich DF51 and DV51 meet all the requirements involved.

DF51 - the “ultra compact” oneDF51 is big in functionality and small insize: compared to its predecessor itrequires over 40 % less space in thecontrol cabinet. DF51 is therefore idealfor retrofitting in drive systems thatwere previously run without speedcontrol. They therefore considerablyincrease the economy and productivityof your machine or system. Theintegrated keypad ensures fastoperation without the need for anytedious parameter setting. The drivecan also be controlled directly at themachine using the potentiometer.

DV51 – “more than 200 % motorstarting torque at 1 Hz” - easy toactivateThe DV51 can offer high startingtorques without the need for complexand lengthy parameter settings: Inorder to adapt to the motor, the newsensorless control process doesn't evenneed the autotuning operations usuallyrequired. Even difficult drive controltasks such as heavy starting cantherefore be implemented easily rightfrom the start.

DV51 - “dynamic overcurrent andovervoltage monitoring”High starting torques together withdynamic acceleration and brakingramps require a great deal from a drivesystem. Fault indications are often theresult, and these may lead to difficultshutdowns during machine operation. The new control process of the DV51detects these kinds of critical operatingstates and prevents them accordingly. The reliability of the drive in machinesand systems is thus considerablyincreased.

DF51, DV51 - “timer function &programming of outputs”:The output signals of the DF51/DV51can be programmed with logicfunctions such as AND and ORoperations, as well as with time delays. This increases flexibility and eliminatesthe need for additional componentsand wiring.

DF51, DV51 - “communicationoptions”DF51/DV51 can be integrated incommunication systems such asPROFIBUS-DP (DE51 -NET-DP) orCANopen (DE51-NET-CAN) when usedwith the appropriate option modulesavailable. Each device comes standardwith a MODBUS-RTU interface thatoffers inexpensive integration insuitably networked systems.

DF51, DV51 - “global standards”Conformity with standards such as CE,c-UL, UL and c-Tick enable theDF51/DV51 technology to be used inother parts of the world.

DF51, DV51 - “side-by-sidemounting”DF51/DV51 units can be mounted“side-by-side” in order to save space. This therefore reduces the installationspace required even further.

DF51, DF6 – the versatile ones

DF51 and DF6 provide the economical solution for manymachine and processing sequences for which it is sufficientto vary the rotational speed using a V/f control. Among theseare pump and fan applications where the DF51 or DF6 inverterscan contribute significantly to saving power and reducingcost. Functions, such as PID control loops or a thermistor input for motor protection, that normally require externalcomponents, are already built in. The devices can be used immediately, as they are supplied, without the need forprogramming, and the built-in keypad with setpoint potentiometer enables easy configuration and local operation.

DV51, DV6 – the powerful ones

DV51 and DV6 expand the scope of the DF series by numerousadditional functions. Wherever more dynamics and highertorque levels are involved, the vector control provides therequired motor torque at just the right moment. This bringssafety and reliability of drives and optimum efficiency for the processing sequence. The various analog and digital configurable inputs and outputs offer a great deal of flexibilitybecause they can be matched precisely to the requirements ofindividual machines and systems.

118 Description

Vector frequency inverters DV51

Application

With their sensorless vector control, the DV51 frequency inverters offer excellent torque levels for three-phase motors with cage rotors. They are especially suitable for demanding applications in which maximum torque and smooth running are re-quired at the lower speed range. The assigned performance range for four-pole three-phase asynchronous motors ranges from:• 0.25 to 2.2 kW with single-phase power supply (230 V)• 0.25 to 7.5 kW with three-phase power supply (230 V)• 0.37 to 7.5 kW with three-phase power supply (400 V)The vector frequency inverters DV51 can be used as a stand-alone drive or incorpo-rated in automation systems. The adaptable modules allow flexible communication. With the sensorless vector control, applications in the plastics and metal processing, textile, paper and printing industries and in crane and lift installations are possible.

Features

• Compact construction due to highly-integrated module technology• Internal braking transistor• Optional keypads DEX-KEY-6…• Optional fieldbus module (CAN, PROFIBUS DP)• Serial interface (RS 485, Modbus RTU)• Six digital inputs (24 V DC)• Two digital outputs (24 V DC)• Two analog inputs (0 to +10 V, 4 to 20 mA)• One analog output (0 to +10 V)• A relay (changeover contact: 24 V DC/230 V AC)• Thermistor input• User-friendly direct operation without prior configuration.• Conformance to global standards CE, UL, c-UL and cTick

Functions

Comprehensive protective functions guarantee safe operation and protect frequen-cy inverters and motor:• Overcurrent, earth fault• Overload, electronic motor protection• Overtemperature• Overvoltage, undervoltageAdditional operational functions:• Sensorless Vector Control• > 200 % starting torque from about 1 Hz• Dynamic braking (external braking resistor)• Motor potentiometer• PID controller• Automatic voltage control (boost)• Restart inhibit• Min./max. frequency limitation• Frequency hopping (frequency masking)• DC braking to motor standstill• Up to 16 fixed speeds• PLC functionality: function tests possible

Documentation

Each vector frequency inverter DV51 is supplied with installation instructions and a CD. The installation instruction contains a short description with illustrations and infor-mation about correct handling, installation and electrical connection of the device. The text information supplied is printed in seven languages (English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish). The CD contains a detailed manual (English, German) and configuration software with help text.

Note:

The software on the CD can be run on PCs with the current Windows operating sy-stems from 98 to XP). For connecting a PC (RS 232) to a vector frequency inverter DV51, you will need the connection cable DEX-CBL-2M0-PC.

DE4-BU4-1 braking unit, DE4-BR1... braking resistors

Description

The following are available:• 1 K• 4.7 K• 10 K

Features

• M22-.K.: Resistance value 1/4.7/10 [kO]• Angle of rotation: 270° g5°• Degree of protection: IP 66• Power: max. 0.5 W• Linearity: g 0.5 %• Voltage rating: 250 V AC

Notes

Wiring of M22-.K.. and PR10... potentiometers:• The connecting cables to the potentiometers should be screened.• The cable screen should be connected at one end near the frequency inverter and

isolated at the potentiometer (with a rubber grommet).• The potentiometer is connected via screw terminals (M22-.K..) and soldering lugs

(PR10...).

Type overview

Application

An external braking resistor is required when braking large moments of inertia or when operating in extended regenerative mode. It converts the mechanical braking energy to heat.

Function

The integral braking transistor of the frequency inverter automatically diverts energy to the connected braking resistor when the threshold value of the DC bus voltage is exceeded. This prevents overvoltages in the DC link, which would otherwise cause an “overvoltage” fault message and activate the pulse inhibitor of the frequency in-verter. The drive coasts to a stop.

Features

The resistors are built into a perforated sheet-metal enclosure and are fitted with an overtemperature protection switch (230 V, 1A, AC-1). The enclosure is made from galvanized perforated sheet metal, is open at the base and conforms to IP 20 degree of protection when installed.

DEX-LN... Mains chokes

Type overview

Application

Mains chokes – also called commutating chokes – are connected in series on the mains input side of electronic equipment.

Function

Mains chokes limit the inrush current and dampen current harmonics and any additional current peaks. By dampening the harmonic currents, the r.m.s value of the input current can be reduced by up to 30 %. In addition, they allow the often mandatory short-circuit voltage (uk value) of about 4 % to the mains.Mains chokes extend components’ lifespan (rectifier diodes, DC link capacitors) on equipment with input-side DC link (frequency inverters, UPS).

Features

The mains chokes are vacuum-impregnated for low-noise operation. They offer low-fatigue, magnetically and metallically neutral air-gap bypasses.Because of their flux distribution, the clearance to metal parts and neighbouring components must be at least 50 mm.

DescriptionDE...-LZ... Radio interference filters

Application

When frequency inverters are operated in European Union (EU) member countries, conformance to EMC Directive 89/336/EEC is mandatory. The IEC/EN 61800-3 pro-duct standard for variable-speed drives regards a typical drive arrangement as a complete system, i.e. a combination of frequency inverter, cable and motor.Used with the listed radio frequency interference filters, the DF5/DF51, DV5/DV51, DF6 and DV6 frequency inverters meet with the requirements of the EMC product standard in industrial environments (second environment) and the more stringent li-mits for domestic environments (first environment).

Definitions according to IEC/EN 61800-3

Limit values to IEC/EN 61800-3

Features

• Ready for connection, with terminals and prefabricated connection cables for the assigned DF5/DF51, DV5/DV51, DF6 and DV6 frequency inverters.

• Book-type design for side mounting next to the frequency inverter. • Footprint: the filter can also be fitted below the frequency inverter.• EMC conformity for the DF5/DF51, DV5/DV51, DF6 and DV6 frequency inverters:

– Emitted interference, IEC/EN 61800-3 (EN 55011 Group 1, Class B)– Interference immunity, IEC/EN 61800-3, industrial environment

Function

Radio interference suppression filters protect against conducted high-frequency in-terference (noise immunity) and reduce the high-frequency interference from a de-vice, which is transmitted through or emitted from the mains cable, and which must be limited to a prescribed level (emitted interference).Radio interference suppression filters must be installed as near as possible to the fre-quency inverter.Filters have earth leakage currents. In the event of a malfunction (such as phase failure or load unbalance) these can rise some way above the nominal values. To avoid dangerous voltages, the filters must therefore be earthed before they are swit-ched on. For leakage currents above 3.5 mA, VDE 0160 and EN 60335 stipulate the following:• protective conductor f 10 mm2

or• the protective conductor must be open-circuit monitored or• an additional conductor must be fitted. As these leakage currents are high-frequency interference, the earthing conductors must have a low impedance and a large surface area.

Documentation

Installation instructions are supplied with each RFI filter. For information about EMC-compliant installation, see the manuals for the respec-tive frequency inverters.

Notes The rated motor currents apply to normal internally and surface-cooled three-phase motors with 1500 r.p.m.DOL starting: Starting current max. 6 × rated motor current.

Starting time max. 5 s. Y/∆−starting: Starting current max. 2 × rated motor current.

Starting time max. 15 s. Set overload relay in line to 0.58 × motor rated current.

Fuse ratings at Y/∆ starting apply also to three-phase slipring motors. At higher rated and starting currents and/or longer starting times use higher-rated fuse. Table applies for time-lag and gL fuses (VDE 0636)

With h.b.c. fuses with aM characteristic, use fuse = motor full load current.
