The heat is on! Please take caution when working or playing outside. Be prepared.

1. Pay attention to your hydration status, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

2. Protect your skin and eyes with a large brimmed hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.

3. If you are leaving for the summer, do not leave your golf clubs and shoes in the garage. The heat is very hard on your equipment.

4. Stay indoors during the heat of the day. 5. Eat well-balanced, light and regular meals.

Hunters Ridge Golf and Country Club ScoreCard ~ May 2014

What a beautiful day we had for the 11th Annual Nine Hole Ladies Invitational on April 3rd. 116 ladies, with 19 area country clubs being represented, enjoyed the “A Spa Day – Relax at the Ridge” golf event. The Hunters Ridge 9-Hole Ladies should be very proud of the fantastic golf event they organized. Thanks to Pat Van Notti and Blasine Penkowski and the many volunteers for all of their efforts. Thanks again to Brian Hope for using his talents on the “Bubbling Bath Tubs” he constructed. And finally, I would like to thank the “strong” men who helped with the bag drop. You were such a big help. I would like to thank the Golf Committee for their continued support. They are an important part of the golf program and help guide our outstanding golf program. The current committee includes Gary Tinkel, Chairperson, Bruce Davie, Mary Alice Lipski, Terri Butler, Jim Scott, Mary Jo Burke and Jim Tucker along with Board Representative Don Wirsbinski.

Rob Harpster, Director of Golf

Life is Good at Hunters Ridge

Thanks to those of you who so generously donated almost seven thousand dollars ($7,000) in support of my Boston Marathon run. The two organizations that benefited, the Bonita Springs YMCA and New Horizons of Bonita Springs, were very, very grateful. Thank you so much! It was truly an honor to be a participant in

the Boston Marathon this year representing our beautiful community. The City of Boston went above and beyond to show the world just how strong they really are. It was a spectacular sporting event and one which I will forever cherish.

As we get ready for the start of the hurricane season,

June 1 thru November 30, please remember that your

exterior hurricane protection devices must be either

clear (lexan) panels or painted aluminum panels that

are the same colors as the exterior body or trim colors

of your home. Galvanized aluminum panels may only be

installed for a few days prior to and shortly after a

hurricane has passed through our area. All hurricane

protection devices must be submitted to and approved

by the Architectural Review Board. Thank you!

President’s Message

Wasn't the season short! Seems like the season really flew this year. HRCA is going to be very busy this off season making improvements to the golf course, clubhouse grill room and various common area features. We have had a number of comments about our area in front of the front gates. As you may recall for the last several months Bonita Springs Utility has been installing a new water main along the entire north boundary of hole 3 between the dead end road and our white fence line. They did not restore the land back to the condition it was before the project was undertaken. This land is not owned by HRCA; however, we have been working on getting grass re-established and cleaning up the mess. Our committees have been working hard and meeting on a regular basis. On behalf of the Board we want them to know we appreciate their hard work and recommendations. HRCA will be sending out special communications to the entire membership as the summer projects get underway so you can be kept up to date on the progress. We hope all of you have a safe and great summer! Fred Forbes, Board President

MEMBERSHIP MESSAGES

Meet me at….The Ridge. The House Committee asked our members to help us name the new snack bar at the Activity Center Pool, and wow, what a response. After much deliberation by the committee, The Ridge was chosen as the new name and announced at the Aloha Party. Three members submitted the new name and many thanks to Betty Kelling, Paul Shaw and Donna Dunne! “Save a tree, save the planet…” Many thanks to all of you who have helped us “save a tree” (and some postage), by reading your monthly ScoreCard online at our website or by email. If you would like to be added to our ScoreCard “do not mail” list, please let me know. Many of you were so generous the last few years when we held our annual fundraising drive to “stuff” the backpacks of the children of staff members. Last year we raised enough to get all of the school supplies needed plus a generous gift card for each child for other necessary items such as school clothes, etc. We hope that you would join us in this worthy effort. Since Thanksgiving, we have been able to donate four large bins of non-perishable food items to Cafe of Life for which they are most appreciative. Please remember this is a yearlong, continuous effort and food items will be collected all summer long. As always, they can be dropped off at "The Ridge".

Have a safe and healthy summer, and we look forward to your speedy return!

FOOD AND BEVERAGE NOTES

The month of April proved to be a busy one. Everyone

who attended “The Aloha Party” had a wonderful time and

the Easter Brunch was a huge success.

The ladies 9-hole Invitational and the Ladies Member

Guest were the nicest golfing events we have ever had.

We have received notes from the guests telling us that our

event was the best they have ever attended. We would like

to thank all of the women that worked with me to make

these events so successful.

Things are slowing down a bit, but for those of you that are

with us year-round, we have many events planned for you

over the summer months. There are three big events

planned for you in May. Our Mother’s Day Brunch is on

Sunday, May 11th from 11-2 for $24.95. Our Musical Group

this month is on Thursday, May 15th from 6-9. This will be

the first time PEARL and SASE have come to Hunters

Ridge. They are a Motown musical Duo. We are offering a

buffet for $16.95. Both of these events require “Smart-

Business” dress code guidelines. May 26, the last Monday

in May, is Memorial Day. We are having our annual

cookout buffet from 11-2 for $13.95. Reservations are

necessary for these events and you will be able to find the

menus on our Comcast TV channel 196 or our website. Our

May Cooking Class will be on Wednesday, May 28 at

11:00am. Hope to see you there!

Thank you for a wonderful season and we hope you will

enjoy your summer.

HUNTERS RIDGE 2014 RECIPROCAL LIST

Hunters Ridge is happy to present the participating 2014 Reciprocal Clubs. Please read the following information about the reciprocal program: 1. Golf members are eligible to golf at reciprocal clubs for the published rate. 2. Social members are eligible at some courses for a cart and greens fee. 3. A Hunters Ridge Golf Staff Member must make all reservations. 4. When making a tee time request for a reciprocal, pick up a request form in the Golf Shop,

list players, tee time preference and course(s) you would like to play. 5. Please remember that the reciprocal clubs have their own members playing, so tee times

may be limited. The Golf Staff appreciates your patience. 6. Most clubs offer a charge back to your Hunters Ridge member account; however, some

only accept cash or credit card. Please consult the reciprocal information sheet or ask the Golf Shop.

7. If you should have a discrepancy with a reciprocal charge, please call the Hunters Ridge club office (do not call the reciprocal club).

We are guests at these other country clubs; please express your appreciation to the other clubs and their staff members when you visit their facilities. It truly means a great deal and helps in continuing this great program.

Hunters Ridge Renovation Plans - Update #4 Since our April 9 Update Letter, the project’s focus continues to be on the completion of finished drawings and specifications for the upgraded Grill Room, Bar and Lobby. While timing remains tight, we remain on schedule with the planned submission for building permits by the end of this month as well as bid requests by the middle of May. Part of this year’s renovation plans requires the relocation of the restaurant’s dumpster plus related asphalt work in the surrounding area. At the same time, we plan to take advantage of having the hot asphalt equipment on site by doing some repairs on our existing roads. As the timing for complete resurfacing of roads is currently scheduled in 5-6 years, this will allow us to make hot asphalt repairs on any existing potholes, manhole covers and other road damage in a very cost effective manner. Therefore, if you think that the street where you live requires some repair work, please contact Chris Durfey so we can develop a list in advance to do all of the reported road repair work at one time. The project’s budget will be finalized as soon as all contracts have been awarded. Once construction begins, a monthly report will be issued to monitor both costs and schedule for the following 5-6 months of work, beginning June, 2014. Our Social Non-Golf reserve normally handles replacement and improvement work like this. In fact, items such as painting, floor coverings, furniture, equipment and computers/software, totaling more than $250,000, had been previously earmarked on our 2014 Reserve Funding Schedule to be done this year. As all of these items are included in this year’s renovation project, these monies from the Social Non-Golf reserves will now be used to help pay for the project. Therefore, reserves that will be supplemented by monies from our Cash accounts, will be used to fund this project. More details on the project’s costs will be announced in one of our next letter updates. Several residents have asked about how the community would fund the project’s second phase. As mentioned in earlier updates, the second phase is larger and we’ll be working to define the specifics of

this phase between now and the end of this year. During this period, we will be scheduling a number of different communications so that the entire community has a chance to participate in the development of the final plans. At this point, it is too early to know the cost details of the second phase but it will be based upon changes and improvements made to the Main Dining Room, Kitchen, Activity Center and possibly other areas. Unlike the first phase of work being done this year, the second phase may need to be financed and this will be an integral part of the completed project plans that will be ultimately presented to the entire community for final approval.

We will be creating a link from our website “huntersridge-ca.com” that will take you directly to an HR 2014 Project file. We’ll post many types of project information and construction photos to keep everyone informed and updated on the progress, whether you are here at Hunters Ridge or not during the summer and fall months. All related written communications will be posted so, if you happen to miss something, you will be able to retrieve it from this linked file.

Thanks again to everyone for their questions, feedback and support on this important investment in the future of Hunters Ridge.
