Staff News After five years with us Mr Colless has resigned as our Guidance Counsellor to take up a position as Senior Psychologist with an agency in Auckland. Mr Colless has made a significant contribution over that time to the development of our student support systems including our E TŪ project. We wish him well for his new and exciting position. Mrs Colless will be joining Mr Colless in Auckland at the end of the year. We have benefited greatly from her expertise as the RTLB (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour) attached to our school this year. Congratulations to Ms Rebecca Willy for the safe arrival of Bethany Lorna Thomson. We wish Rebecca well for this precious time but look forward to her return to us following her maternity leave. Thank you for your support during Term 3. Have a great break but spend some quality time studying and preparing for the externals. Kind regards Mark Bowden Principal

ATTENDANCE

Is your child absent from school because of medical reasons? It is important you communicate with the school regarding your child’s absences from school. If your child is absent from school due to an illness or some medical reason, you are required to provide the school with a Medical certificate from the Doctor if they have 3 or more days away from school. This will be treated as an authorized absence. The school will expect you to contact them at the start of the day to report their absence from school. You may do this by telephoning the school office or leaving a message on the Attendance Officers absentee hotline, which is cleared each morning. If you have trouble contacting the school another alternative is to write a note for your child to bring to school on their return. Thank you for your support on this matter.

GATEWAY NEWS

My Gateway experience so far has been great! I have learnt so much and it has been a great confidence builder. Not only that, but learning new things and techniques has had a huge impact on how I learn at school and at home also. Working in Espresso Café has shown me that everyday schooling concepts that we are taught are actually pretty much all used in the workforce. It is great to know that what I’m learning at school helps with my Gateway and what I learn at Gateway helps with school. Cascade Price

My Gateway placement at West End Primary School has allowed me to learn so much about the fundamentals of teaching young people. I have had the opportunity to meet and bond with so many amazing children and the fact that I am able to teach them about something so expressive and beautiful as art is such an honour. I have enjoyed every moment working with these children alongside the classroom teacher, and it is an experience I will always cherish. Working at West End has allowed me to see that my career plan to be an Art Teacher gives me the freedom to move onto primary school teaching if I decide to do so, which I most likely will as I have enjoyed this experience so much. Children are our future, and they deserve and require special attention in the classroom. Children have so much to learn from us, and likewise we can also learn so much from them, their purity, innocence and creativity. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity that I will never forget. Marie Goldsworthy

STAR NEWS Congratulations to Jaden Petersen who has completed a STAR Barista Course at WITT and has gained employment at his Gateway placement as Front of House at The Treehouse.
