Dear Parents and Caregivers I hope you enjoyed your weekend and those of you who are rugby fans enjoyed the plethora of games available to watch. I had one of those moments when you realise the people who have been invited for dinner do not watch rugby and are really not interested in watching it either. The suggestion to watch it on mute was not one I took up and as soon as they left you can guess what I did. Over the last eighteen months or so you have had read or seen media reports about a government initiative to inject $359 million dollars into a new programme for schools called Investing in Suc-cess. This has been somewhat controversial as educators have sug-gested the money could perhaps be used to greater effect else-where in education in a more direct way. Essentially the money is provided to enable schools to connect more; obviously in order to create learning pathways from early learning to the end of high school – from cradle to career. These pathways are called Communities of Learning (originally Communities of Schools) and after a lot of dis-cussion the Boards of Te Puke Schools have begun the process to form one for our area. This will take some time to develop and include community consultation as we work through the parameters, beliefs, vision and academic challenges we face as an area. As we go through this process it is important to all schools that we maintain our individu-ality, flavour, traditions and history. As things unfold I will continue to keep you updated and also seek your thoughts and opinions as will our Board of Trustees. The last meeting was about developing a collective vision for Te Puke as the basis for beginning our consultation process with the various stakeholder groups. The planning for our Jiddles Block rebuild is gaining momentum and we should have some detailed planning over the next few weeks in readiness for the consent process and heading out to building tender. The Board is ensuring things move along at a reasonably rapid rate so that we can be underway and hopefully completed prior to the beginning of the 2017 school year. It has taken quite a while to get correct ticks in the required boxes and of course as a consequence of the leaky building problem in some schools across New Zealand the review and checking process is now far more complex. Have a great week Yours in teaching Craig Haggo Principal
