Second Week of Hurricane Sandy Offering is SundayWe will be taking up a special collection for disaster relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy again on Sunday. Funds will be sent to One Great Hour of Sharing or Week of Compassion or Church World Service as you designate.

While it is possible for each of us to give individually, and many of you undoubtedly already have done so, as Christians we are called to be the community of God's people. By giving of our resources together we are responding in the tradition of our biblical kindred of the early church who shared with "all, as any had need." (Acts 2:45b NRSV)

As we act as one family collecting and sending our monies above what we normally give, we not only provide tangible help but are a witness to Christ's healing power. We are a part of the unfolding realm of God on earth.

All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2: 44-47 NRSV
