Restoration work on the building is progressing well, although a few weeks behind schedule. Issues that come up are resolved by the construction team on an ongoing basis at regular site meetings. Professional Team As the church is a listed building and as we were subject to CLDC (Clare Local Development Company) grant conditions it was critical that we had a very good professional team overseeing this project. This team is led by Annette Stanford Architect and the following are the team members. Margaret Flannery Quantity Surveyor, Tomas McKenna Structural Engineer, Moloney/Fox Electrical & Mechanical Consulting Engineers. Mike Hogan and Johnny Loughnane represent Kilkishen Development Association. Murroe based contractor Taaffe Construction Ltd were awarded the contract under the Public Tendering System and commenced work on the project in April 2013. Construction The following is a brief outline of some of the tasks undertaken so far. Roof & Tower: All the slates and slate laths were removed and 150mm of insulation was fitted. The stone barge was raised to accommodate the new height of the roof. It was a difficult task securing the old slates as they varied in size some measuring 3ft x 2ft. Close to 12% of the slates were damaged when being removed and had to be replaced. Underfloor heating has been installed. A Mezzanine Floor has been installed to accommodate a training room. A new extension was built to accommodate a Kitchenette, toilets and a small storage area. Restoration of the Bell Tower proved to be a bigger job than expected as ivy was growing on the top section. The stone work had to be reconstructed again to ensure the safety of the building. The upper portion of the tower had to be completely repointed with lime mortar. As the church is a listed building and as we were subject to CLDC (Clare Local Development Com‐pany) grant conditions it was critical that we had a very good professional team overseeing this project.  This team is led by Annette Stanford Ar‐chitect and the following are the team members.  Margaret Flannery Quan‐tity Surveyor, Tomas McKenna Structural Engi‐neer, Moloney/Fox Elec‐

Construction

The following is a brief outline of some of the tasks undertaken so far.

Roof & Tower: All the slates and slate laths were removed and 150mm of insulation was fitted.  The stone barge was raised to

accommodate the new height of the roof.  It was a difficult task     securing the old slates as they varied in size some measuring 3ft x 2ft.  Close to 12% of the slates were damaged

when being removed and had to be replaced.

Under‐floor heating has been installed.

A Mezzanine Floor has been installed to accom‐modate a training room.

A new extension was built to accommodate a Kitch‐enette, toilets and a small storage area.

Restoration of the Bell Tower proved to be a big‐ger job than expected as ivy was growing on the top section.  The stone work had to be reconstructed again to ensure the safety of the building.  The upper portion of the tower had to be completely re‐pointed with lime mortar.

Help required

There are so many people from within the community that have helped so far and without their valuable assistance we would not have got this far.

Going forward we require assis‐tance for the day to day run‐ning of the centre.  We would appreciate if you have a few hours to help or have some ideas going forwards.

We will have some space that could be used for a small busi‐ness.  Perhaps printing facilities or  an art workshop.

If you are interested please contact Mike Hogan at 086 2314685 or Joe Meaney at 087 2545537 or any committee member.
