ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION
All vehicles on Conditional Registration must be inspected and passed for roadworthiness prior to registration
renewal each year.
The CAMC Inspection Day will be held on Sunday 1st December 2019 commencing at 8.30AM at the Automotive
Workshop of the Cootamundra TAFE College, Mackay Street Cootamundra.
When you present your vehicle for inspection, please bring with you:
(a) Registration renewal papers (if you have received them),and
(b) Annual Club Membership renewal fee ($30), or your receipt
showing that you have already paid.
When your vehicle has been inspected and passed and your membership paid, the “Conditional Registration Historic
Vehicle Declaration” form (included with your registration renewal – but I have some in case you have not yet
received your papers) can be completed and signed declaring that:
(a) ) The vehicle is in a safe operating condition, and
(b) ) The registered operator is a financial member of the club.
If your registration renewal is due during December or January bring the vehicle to the inspection day, even though
you may not have received your renewal papers.
For new members who may wish to put a vehicle on Conditional Registration for the first time, RTA application forms
will be available.
There will be tea and coffee on hand for morning tea.

PRESIDENT’S RAMBLE
Due to a few other commitments which occurred, Lin and I have missed some of the runs which featured during
this last month. I have heard about our representation at Classic Yass , and at the Public School fete, (thank you
to all who supported this community event) and at the midweek run to Coolac’s Beehive Hotel for lunch and
Bingo. I’m sure you all bee hived yourselves !
One major trip that we enjoyed was to Lake Goldsmith Steam Festival, in company with Ken and Daina
Trethewey, but more on that later.
Planning for our 40th Birthday weekend celebrations scheduled for the 1st weekend in February 2020, are
proceeding well, with approximately 100 people so far indicating they will be attending. Members of clubs
around the region have responded well.
The Coota Gundagai Regional Council have generously agreed for our club to use the Coota Airport terminal
building, free of charge, for Friday afternoon’s ‘meet and greet’ on the arrival of participants.
For Saturday - Both Keith Berryman and Paul Braybrooks have confirmed their kind agreement for participants
to visit their vehicle collections.
We are grateful for Graham and Robyn Snape’s offer to host the lunch at their vehicle collection venue.
Members of our club and indeed members of other clubs who have not yet indicated their interest in joining us
for the weekend, please, we encourage you to do so. Contact any member of the executive. It is shaping up to be
an enjoyable time.
Our Fathers’ Day Swap meet proceeds, by now are very probably assisting some needs in the community, having
been distributed to 9 community service groups . $ 500 each was donated to 2 services in Harden and 7 in Coota,
as per our club members’ requests. Articles with photos re these donations appeared in the local newspapers.
I can hardly believe that it is AGM time on 2nd December, so please attend and vote for who you would like to
see on ‘the top table’ - next year’s office bearers. Better still, nominate yourself for a job.

P.S.
As mentioned earlier, Daina and Ken Trethewey, Lin and I, travelled to Lake Goldsmith to visit the Steam Fair
held over the first weekend in November.
Once you leave the Hume Highway at Seymour, the trip across to the east of Ballarat is a great drive. A bonus
was the greenness and lakes full of water !
The steam fair itself can only be described as incredible. The work that has gone into the restoration of the
hundreds of items on display is amazing.
The event is a permanent display in a large paddock, where dozens of purpose built sheds of all sizes, house the
owner’s collections. They range from double garage size to almost aircraft hangar dimensions. Each shed houses
an impressive assortment of restored machinery, some live steam, some open crank oil engines, some old petrol
and diesel engines. All are running, some driving water pumps, electrical generators, and other implements.
Many of the sheds allow public access so you can walk around and through the exhibit areas in the steam and
exhaust fumes, and talk with the owners.
Some sheds have a theme such as an old machine shop set up with working planers, shapers, drills and lathes,
driven from overhead steam powered or generated gear, driving flat belts.
Another was an operating printing press shop, and another a milk dairy featuring an extensive collection, another
was all steam machinery, ‘steamily’ operating, from large engines right down to small scale models.
Quite a few sheds have live-in sections, which are built in period style with matching appliances, 32 volt powered
by engine driven generators.
Outside, steam traction engines power a threshing machine and baler with their long flat belt drives keeping time
like metronomes, as the joins run over the pulleys. Large steam shovels move along tracks, and In the afternoon,
the main arena comes alive with a grand parade of many steam traction engines, steam trucks from the ’20s,
tractors of many kinds, trucks, binders, harvesters, and all sorts.
Really there is too much to describe and I doubt you would see such a variety anywhere else. My suggestion is a
club weekend next year ?
We will go back for sure.

EDITOR’S REPORT: Coota Hootas are posted to 76 members, any prospective members, and 18 other clubs. Coota
Hoota is emailed to 22 members.
Showground Users Committee Delegates’ Report: John and Joan Collins attended the October Meeting. Meetings are now run
by Council Employees instead of Users.
SWAP MEET REPORT: Barry has prepared a flyer for next Swap Meet to be distributed wherever you can .
PLATES REGISTRAR’S REPORT: No cars checked for Club Plates in October. Athol Jennings has sold his 1973 TOYOTA
Crown. Alan Thompson has sold his 1965 STUDEBAKER. Dylan Wilde has requested Concessional Registration for his Falcon, (which might be Modified), but needs to renew his membership first. Webmaster’s Report: John Milnes is absent, receiving hospital treatment. Get well John!
CLUB CAPTAIN’s REPORT: Ken Harrison sent bereavement cards to Graeme and Robyn Snape and Graeme Ducksbury
and Alan and Ricky Winley. And a get well card to Secretary Paul. John Simp. advised that Craig Golden’s ROYAL ENFIELD won Best Classic at Classic Yass. 2 Nov.

GENERAL BUSINESS Chairman Malcolm announced that Saturday 1 Feb. approximately 100 people have already committed to attending our
club’s 40th
Anniversary Dinner at the Ex-Services Club. A separate bank account will be opened. A $29 three course meal has been selected but the club will subsidise this so the Dinner will cost $20 per head. Pay by direct deposit or cash to President or
Secretary when booking -- by January Meeting. We are preparing a slide show of cars. Music? Meeting indicated -- No. We might get 3 hampers from Shire for Lucky Door prizes. Saturday 1 Feb. The drives will depart Albert Park. Lunch we will barbecue at Graeme’s Toy Factory. Sunday to Jugiong.
Our club hosts the SW Clubs’ Get-Together 28 March, We will need a caterer. (Invitations front cover of Coota Hoota.)
Barry reminded about Wednesday’s Mid-Week Run. Graeme reported 340 vehicles on Show at Classic Yass. Next Year’s Classic Yass could be cancelled due to Council difficulties. Ken’s daughter’s Morris Elite was there. Malcolm announced our 2020 Calendar is being compiled and he will publish 150 for 40
th anniversary.
The Time being 8.50 p.m. each person was asked to have a say about their projects. Then Malcolm closed the Meeting at 9 p.m.

President Hugh Opened the Meeting at 8.25 p.m. and asked for the Minutes of the 2017 A.G.M. to be confirmed.

Hoota be confirmed as a true record of the Meeting. CARRIED
REPORTS PRESIDENT’S: Hugh referred to his President’s Report in the December Coota Hoota as his Annual Report.
TREASURER’S ANNUAL REPORT: For the Financial Year 1st Dec. 2017 - 30th Nov. 2018
Sue circulated detailed Reports of the Income [$19,562.10 ], and Expenditure [$19,447.25], of the year, and a Bank Balance of $15,072.35
and a Term Deposit of $8,338.29.
MOVED: Sue McCarthy, SECONDED: Trish Stewart – That the Treasurer’s Reports of the 2018 Income and Expenditure, as circulated,
be accepted. CARRIED
Hugh thanked Sue for the fine recording of the Club’s financial affairs.
Hugh vacated the chair and asked Alan Thompson to announce the nominations for the Office Bearers for 2019.
Alan announced nominations, and presided over voting. And declared:

GENERAL BUSINESS
Malcolm Chaplin thanked Alan; and thanked the Meeting for electing him despite his lack of Internet Savvy.
But, he said, he has had plenty of experience in the old car network, so he knows he can guide the club in the next year.
Malcolm affirmed the appointment of Plates Registrar . The position will be held by Alan Thompson because the RMS recognises him
as the Responsible Person in this Club for certifying vehicle eligibility to the Historic Vehicle Scheme.
Alan Thompson read out the list of appointed Registration Inspectors:

And thanked them for their roadworthy checks on Inspection Day, and explained an apology from Zeke.
Hugh McMinn, Past President, congratulated Malcolm for taking over the reins in 2019, and explained that he is stepping aside from club
duties in 2019 because of other responsibilities.
Alan Thompson MOVED that the following AGM requirements need to be recorded, SECONDED: Sue McCarthy –
a) That the Commonwealth Bank and the South West Slopes Credit Union be advised that the signatories for the Club’s Accounts are: the
2019 President, Secretary and Treasurer, with any two to sign.
b) That keys to the Club Mailbox are held by the President and Secretary.
c) That the required Annual Report Forms be prepared by the club’s Public Officer (who is appointed by the Office Bearers), and be submitted
to the Department of Fair Trading, together with the scheduled annual fee - $46. CARRIED
Malcolm thanked members for their attendance, and encouraged them to attend future events. And Closed the Meeting at 8.52 p.m .

News from a restorer: Fitting a new rear Brake-lights Switch on a car - Some Chev restorers have found the Switch
is failing to apply the Brake-lights, despite being brand-new. Why? It is found that the common fad to use silicone
brake fluid (instead of normal brake fluid) in restored cars is the cause. “Standard Motor Products Inc.” Brake-Light
pressure switches, even though brand new, don’t work with Silicone Brake Fluids.
A PAST EVENT -- 13 - 15 September 2019 Toranafest in Maitland
Well, TORANAFEST 2019 is well and truly over, and was a great success with 458 Toranas displayed
at the Show ‘n Shine
Celebrity guests were Jim Richards, John Sheppard, Bev Brock, Joe Felice and Neil Burns
Toranas ranged from the grandpa cars to highly modified and every model from HB to A9X.
Every TORANAFEST I go to I do a “my pick” of all cars there; and while there were some very yummy Hatchbacks
and SL/R 5000’s, I chose a very well restored HB which had just about every accessory that was available for that
model
However, one very sweet Tuxedo Black SL/R 5000 from Canberra also caught my eye.
Its story was interesting. It was owned by a Real Estate Agent. It was his work car. So can you imagine a client
being taken to view his potential new home in a 1976 Torana with hotted up V8, flairs, very wide wheels?
(Good way to have the Tax Man pay for your cars upkeep.)
The weather was great and the company of old friends helped to make TORANAFEST a very enjoyable weekend.
