Greetings from KerrieStudent AchievementYear 3/4’s in Production modeOur year 3/4’s are highly engaged in progressing their items for the school production. They havebeen giving their voice to the design of costumes, prop making and creating additional originalversus to familiar songs. They have worked in groups and have had to learn about compromise, experiencing tension withtheir friends (and sometimes tears!) and at the end of the day, shown resilience in being able toaccept different ideas and move on to progress the items for production. We won’t give too much away although I am sure that some of you have been ‘treated’ to 100repetitions of the production songs already! Great to see such enthusiasm from all our students. We can’t wait for the production night. Project Rockit Parent ForumLast night we had around 60 parents come along to a presentation and discussion from ProjectRockit. Project Rockit are Australia's youth-driven movement against bullying, hate and prejudiceand have worked with students to empower them to stand up to bullying, hate and prejudiceinstead of standing by watching. Through the lens of (cyber) bullying, the workshops explorethemes of inclusion, respectful relationships, social leadership, diversity, values and ethics andempathy. Whilst it didn’t provide the one big ‘answer’ that we wanted to address common parent concerns, itwas a great refresher on how to support children to act in the on the online world. As children getolder, we know that social media plays a big part in most of their lives. The workshop made usaware of not only the negatives of social media but the positives too. It was a great conversationto be part of. One of the messages I took away was that as parents and teachers, we need to begood models of technology use for our children, and don’t ask them to do something that we don’tor wouldn’t be prepared to do I have included 2 articles from Parenting Ideas on digital privacy and health that you might finduseful.

Dogs at schoolWe have had some feedback that parents are bringing dogs into the NOOSHC building andleaving them unsupervised and consequently scaring some of the children. A reminder to our community that currently, dogs are allowed to be brought into the school yard, ona lead, supervised by an adult only (not a child) and under appropriate control. Dogs, except forofficial assistance dogs, are not allowed to enter school buildings. Owners must ensure that theirdogs are well behaved, do not jump up on other people and owners must clean up appropriatelyafter their pets. If parents need to enter a building, the dogs must be safely tied up well away fromthe doorways and exit/entry areas. We all need to be mindful that not all children or adults feelsafe around animals. Thank you parents and broader community, for your cooperation and understanding around thismatter. Children and Staff illnessIt is this time of the year that colds, flu and gastro bugs are rife at schools. We seem to getthrough the June and July winter months then our resistance is worn down for the August month. We have had to send home a number of children this week and staff have had to stay home withawful lurgies. We remind everyone that if children are unwell, they need to be kept at home untilthey are better. We appreciate it is difficult when parents work but please appreciate that it is ourduty of care to ask you to come and collect them and take them home. It is about giving childrenan appropriate environment to recover and not expose other children and staff to illness. Thankyou for your understanding and cooperation. Book Parade indoors in Team areas – Monday 26th AugustI’m off to search my wardrobe for something to wear at our annual book parade on Monday. I lookforward to seeing the children’s outfits and sharing their favourite books. We have checked the weather forecast and it is not looking good and given the Hall is still notavailable, we will run mini book parades in each separate team area. Watch out for the Compassnotification as to where you child’s parade will be. Warm Regards,Kerrie
