As I moved about the school on Wednesday and chatted to students waiting quietly for their turn, many grinned as they said that they had received a good report and they were looking forward to what they were going to share with their parents. Students were able to articulate how they were going and what they could focus on to improve their results for the next semester. Teachers enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with you, the progress that your child made since the start of the year. They are also looking forward to working on the identified second semester goals. Thank you parents for being punctual and supporting everyone’s right to his or her appointed time slot. Student Report Surveys We have been able to collect a number of surveys with thanks to all the parents who took the time to fill them out for us and provided the school with valuable feedback. Staff will look at this next term and make recommendations for 2018 Student Reports and any way we can improve the end of year reports for parents. Two wonderful music concerts Melody’s music students performed in either the Discovery Concert on Tuesday or the concert for the more experienced students on Thursday. We congratulate all students involved in both concerts, they were highly enjoyed by all. I was able to see a little of the last couple of numbers on the Thursday concert where the Band finished off the performance with a stirring rendition of the Beatles song ‘Come Together’ with notable drumming AND singing from Zach D-G in year 1/2. Last day of term, Friday – 2.30pm dismissal Please don’t forget that the children are dismissed from their classrooms at 2.30pm on Friday, the last day of term. Please remember to be at the school to pick the children up by 2.30pm. We have had many tears at the office when children discover they are the last ones left at the end of the term. Please call us if you are delayed in any way. Thank you all staff I would like to thank all staff for their commitment and hard work for the first half of the year and wish them a restful and relaxing break over the holidays. School Security over the holidays Our school community and broader community play a vital role in keeping our school secure and safe over the holidays so that it is all ready for the children on their first day back at school. If you see any ‘unauthorised’ people on school property over the school break, pleases call Northcote Police and report it in. The local police have been supportive in driving by the school, particularly at night, and attending the school when our community call in with a report. A safe and happy holiday I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very safe and happy holiday for the next two weeks. See you back in Term 3. If you are lucky to have your holidays with your children, have lots of rest, fun and relaxing times together with a few pyjama days thrown in! Mmmm… I can feel a few ‘pj’ days coming on!

Warm regards, Kerrie

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2017 Pie Fundraiser!! Together we purchased a whopping 572 pies and

raised over $1500 for the school! Special thanks to our amazing pie coordinator: Narelle Frazer (Remi, Zan Gr2, Lexie Gr5

& Fynn Gr7) and to the additional volunteers who helped distribute pies!

If you would like to coordinate a fundraiser/event or have any suggestions for future ones, please email the Community

Subcommittee or join us at the next meeting on Wednesday, 26th July. [email protected]

The BIG Show Update!!!

At the end of last week, the first round of workshops were completed and every class in the school has now had their first taste of the first stages of performance making. The week ended with our first experiment in working outdoors with Jennifer and Laura’s Grade 3/4’s who used objects in the outdoor environment as the stimulus for making human sculptures. The results were pretty terrific. We’ll have two more weeks of creative ideas next term before we get down to the serious business of rehearsals. By then we’ll know who’s performing where and what they’re all performing. Exciting! Remember to save the date for the BIG Show (October 26) and to watch this newsletter update for ticketing information in the first couple of weeks of Term 3.

Our state school is a great state school.

Restoring Northcote Primary.

28 June 2017 Dear NPS Family, Our campaign to improve the school is now well underway. We have written to the Minister for Education and our local member of parliament and we have a web site to keep everyone on the same page and active. There is a petition circulating which I hope you have signed. We are also planning a community meeting for early next term. Please go to ilovenps.com.au The web site has lots of vital information and ideas about how you can contribute. It is also a great way to share ideas or information with the campaign group. What can you do to help?

Send a letter or email to the Minister and Fiona Richardson. Pro-forma drafts are on the web site which you can adopt or adapt

Sign the petition on line or on paper – look out for the volunteers at the gates before and after school this week.

Join a sub-committee of school council to help with planning and making this restoration happen.

Talk to anyone who’ll listen about what we need to do to restore the school to the great learning environment our children deserve.

I understand some parents who raised concerns with our local member of parliament have received a copy of a letter from Minister Merlino. Please keep in mind that letter was sent before the Minister received my letter on behalf of School Council and does not address the wide range of issues we face. Thanks for recognising the importance of restoring the school and contributing to making it happen. Yours sincerely, Ian Taylor School Council President
