FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It’s been a very smooth start to the year, even though some teachers including myself have been struck down with illnesses. Our new
teachers have hit the ground running, which is a testament to their professionalism and expertise. I think we have a great team this
year.
Congratulations to all our Year 6 students who have been elected to leadership positions in our school. Our students took the election
process very seriously and as a result we have a very strong, confident and capable student leadership team. I’m looking forward to
watching them grow in their roles as the year progresses.
New Director General Lisa Rodgers I was unable to attend the assembly this week as I was at a meeting of Principals where we heard our new Director General, Lisa
Rodgers, address us for the first time. I think that everyone in the room was impressed, as her philosophy as an educational leader and
her insights to our educational system resonated with many. She came across as being very personable, intelligent and highly astute.
Ms Rodgers has held senior roles in New Zealand's Ministry of Education, and has also been chief executive of the Australian Insti-
tute of Teaching and School Leadership. She started her working career in military intelligence where she learned to appreciate the
importance of service to the community. Her time with the army also taught her the importance of gathering data and information
from a range of sources in order to make the best decision possible, for the people. She inferred that she wouldn’t be implementing
anything without being sure that it made a difference to students in the classroom. On several occasions she said “If it doesn’t work in
the classroom – it doesn’t work.” I am very much looking forward to hearing more from her.
