Ladies' Race 

In bright sunshine on the 7th July, the Winston Runners' Ladies' race took place, with the shaded course providing some much needed respite from the heat.

We'd like to say a big thank you to everybody who took part or helped out on the day, with a specific mention forour friends from Manchester Harriers who took on marshalling duties around the course.

We had a total of 59 runners, with 18 of those coming from Winston Runners.  The club also had a number of prize winners:

• Donna Rawding ­ 3rd overall• Lynda Clifford ­ 2nd in the V45 category• Julia Glancy ­ 2nd in the V55 category• Rachel Whitelegg ­ 2nd in the V35 category

There are also a few races set up as events.  This is after asuggestion from one of our members, who thought it would be useful to a have a way for us to let each other know which races we've entered, to make lift­sharing and meeting up easier.  So, if you've entered a race and want to let other members know, join the event.  If the race isn't on there, add a comment on the page and one of the admins will add it.

Winston Runners on the BBC

As part of the BBC's analysis of the legacy of the 2012 Olympics, Dan Roan came down to the track to record apiece on grass­roots participation in sport and decided that a Winston Runners training session would make a great background.

How it works: Each person's handicap score is calculatedby taking the time of their run, in seconds and subtracting the time of the quickest of their last 3 timed miles, in seconds.  So, a handicap time of ­30 would mean that you've gone 30 seconds quicker than the fastest of your last 3 runs, while a handicap of 60 would mean that you've run a minute slower than the fastest of your last 3 runs.  Lowest score wins!
