Ladies Handcraft Centre &

Therapy WorkshopThe handcraft centre and workshop serve an important therapeutic function at San Michele.

The workshop is aimed at repetitive types of work, which keeps those who wish to be involved busy, (approximately 60 of our higher functioning residents), and gives them a sense of achievement and self worth.

At this point, the workshop receives assignments from three different entities, namely TEL-SCREW PRODUCTS, ROTAPAK (PTY) LTD, and DYNAMIC DISTRIBUTORS.

We have been informed that the standard of work produced by our residents is of a very high standard, and we wish to thank these entities for their support in assisting us to stimulate our residents.

We are hoping to attract additional work, as this would be very helpful for these residents.

Similarly, our ladies handcraft centre produces highly sought after scatter cushions, duvet sets, mosaic work, jewellery, crochet work, padded baby duvets and pillows, baby clothes, inter alia.

These residents receive a nominal amount of “pocket money” for their endeavours.

It is by no means a “sweat shop” and the income derived from the workshop, although welcome, is insignificant in regard to the overall cost of running this facility.

The Therapy Workshop, which was recently dedicated as The Dick Duvenage Therapy Workshop, in recognition of the Late Dick Duvenage, who managed this vital facility for over 20 years.
