GOODEVENING and welcome back to Halton Stadium for tonight’s Continental Cup semi-final against Lincoln Ladies. We will be aiming to put right the wrongs of Saturday night when we were beaten 3-0 by a strong Arsenal team. It was one of those bad nights at the office and I think that when we missed the penalty at 2-0 down, it seemed to sum up the way things were going for us on the day. That said, we must give credit to Arsenal who stopped us from playing and made sure they got the points in what was a must-win game for them. I was slightly disappointed with the manner of their goals and the fact that we didn’t get amongst them and press them in midfield. We always knew the second half of the season would be tougher than the first because in a lot of ways we were the unknown package and now teams know a bit more about us. But I still think there will be a few surprises involving the leading teams between now and the end of the season.

When you have a poor result, you want the next game to come around quickly and what better occasion than a cup semi-final? Rick Passmoor has brought in a few players to add to the competition for places in his squad and we know from our previous games against Lincoln this season, which were both tight affairs, that we will be in for a tough examination tonight. Lincoln look to be out of the picture in terms of the league so that will make them doubly determined to do well in this competition. We always said when we re-built the squad that this would be a transitional season for us and nothing’s changed in that regard although our results in the first half of the season have maybe moved our targets a little. We had a plan to be in Europe in the second season and challenge for the league in the third year but we seem to be maybe 12 months ahead of schedule. If we can have a good evening tonight and reach a cup final that will be another step in the right direction and then set us up nicely for a must-win league game at Bristol Academy on Saturday. We can’t afford to even draw that game if we want to keep them within our grasp and a win tonight would put us in good shape for that fixture. Thank you for your support, and enjoy the game. Matt.

There are 16 clubs in each age group, with rounds played prior to Liverpool Ladies’ home games (4 QFs, 2 SFs and a final). Squads in the seven-a-side tournament are comprised of 10 players each. On each tournament day a league of 4 teams will play each other, each team having 3 matches of 15 minutes duration. Winners and runners up will qualify for the next round. The winning side for each age group will be mascots for the main match. Each team will nominate 4 penalty takers to take part in a half-time penalty shoot-out and the winner will receive a football signed by the Liverpool Ladies squad.

HELLO and welcome to Halton Stadium for today’s match with Lincoln Ladies. The result and performance against Arsenal was disappointing. We have to be honest about that, even though we created chances to have a positive impact on the game, we started far too slowly and got punished for it. Over the last few days, we have been reviewing what went wrong. We have been very critical but as captain, it’s important to keep everyone together and remain positive. There are plenty of experienced players in the squad who know how to recover from situations like these. All we can do is learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again. The good thing is, with tonight’s fixture against Lincoln, there isn’t much time to dwell on a bad result as we’re straight back in there. This is a big occasion for us so we have to prepare properly. It gives us a chance of getting into a final so both teams will be determined to get through. If we do win, either Everton or Arsenal await so there’s a big incentive for obvious reasons as Everton are our local rivals and we need to put things right against Arsenal. Obviously, however, we can’t really look past tonight’s game. Although we’ve beaten Lincoln twice already this season, both encounters we’re very close. Only one goal separated the teams on each occasion. Over the international break Lincoln have strengthened their squad considerably. Lillie Billson, who started the season with us, signed for Lincoln a couple of weeks ago, although she will be cuptied tonight I’m sure she’ll be determined to make an impact for them and we wish her all the best. Don’t forget you can keep up to date throughout the season by following us on Twitter @LFCladies. Thank you all for your support and enjoy the match.

The heartbeat and driving force of the Lincoln midfield. Remi put in some fantastic performances last season and always gives her all –a fact borne out by the fact that she won the supporters’ Player of the Season award and also the Players’ Player of the Year accolade. Remi is also the team’s penalty taker, and had a 100% record from the spot last season. She also works as a coach of the club’s Centre of Excellence Under-13s side

Striker Precious arrived from Doncaster Rovers Belles at the beginning of the 2012 season and soon made an impact. She opened her goal scoring account for the Imps in the first league game of the season against Birmingham and never looked back. She found the net on a consistent basis throughout the season and it was no surprise when she finished as the top scorer at the club. A former England under 23 international, Precious is the side’s maverick and a constant thorn in the side of an opposing defence. She can have a quiet game for 89 minutes then pop up with a goal in the 90th.

A SPECIAL EVENT was recently held in the Champions Suite at Anfield to celebrate the achievements of children and adults from Liverpool FC Foundation’s disability football programme Ability Counts. The players were joined by parents and coaches and medals were handed out to all participants with a select few receiving player of the season awards. Established in 2004, Ability Counts provides young people and adults with additional needs the opportunity to play football at a competitive level. More than 180 children and adults attended the evening, including Stephen Hunt who has spina bifida.

“Wearing the red shirt for LFC’s Ability Counts and playing competitive matches has been fantastic and helped me and many other players with disabilities realise our dreams,” he says. The Foundation’s disability programme is one of its flagship initiatives and has been running for more than 12 years.

MIDFIELDER Amanda Da Costa is excited by the prospect of the Reds reaching a cup final if they can overcome Lincoln Ladies tonight. Writing in her exclusive column for Liverpool FC Magazine, the American ace said: “Having faced Lincoln twice already this season, we know it’ll be no easy to task to face a hard-hitting side with so much at stake. “Forcing 1-0 and 3-2 wins over them has not been easy for us. Lincoln are a talented team that excels by getting you off of your gameplan and having a workrate that is hard to match for 90 minutes. Not to mention the added element of revenge. Lincoln are no longer in contention for any of the top spots in the league table but can set things right with this chance of advancing to the Continental Cup final.

“It’s a game that we will definitely not be taking lightly, and I’m looking forward to the possibility of some Continental Cup hardware in our locker. “ Amanda admits the prospect of such silverware was one of the main reasons she decoded to put pen to paper with the Reds. “When I first signed with Liverpool, I did so because I wanted to win a championship,” she said. “With the possibility of this coming true so soon, it’s been hard for me to channel all of my excitement while we put that goal on hold. During pre-season no.2 it’s been important for me to focus all of my pent-up energy into training so that I can return in the best possible form to help this team try to win our first title together.”

GOALKEEPER Sarah Quantrill enjoyed the first half of the season and is now aiming to make sure the foundations laid by Liverpool Ladies will be cemented in the shape of tangible success. For the second time this season the team has the chance to reach a cup final. Back in April they were edged out by Arsenal in the FA Women’s Cup semi at Anfield. Tonight they will be aiming to make amends by overcoming Lincoln to reach the showpiece occasion in the Continental Cup.

Sarah has played in all of the Reds’ games in the competition so far and hopes to contribute to them reaching a final against Arsenal or Everton. “It would be great if we could reach a cup final this year,” she says. “I don’t think anyone expected us to get as far as we have done in the league or cups. “We thought it might take a while to gel as we had a lot of new players but it seemed to click very quickly and hopefully we can get into the final and win the Continental Cup. The 23-year-old believes the quality of football on display in the FAWSL has never been higher. “I believe the standard has really improved this season. The foreign players coming in have helped raise the standards and I think the Olympics last summer alerted a lot of people to the fact that women’s football is actually very good. More people are watching it and wanting to get involved in the league which is good.” Had a teammate not been injured during a game in which a 10-year-old Sarah was playing in, she may have pursued a career as a striker instead. But she stuck with goalkeeper thereafter and went on to play for Norwich City and Arsenal before linking up with current Reds manager Matt Beard at Chelsea. She believes she has improved this term under his guidance and the tutelage of goalkeeping coach Joe Potts. “Joe used to play football himself and was on the books at Blackburn so he knows what we can expect and has really high standards. He pushes us to get the best out of ourselves.” After contesting the goalkeeping gloves with Dani Gibbons during the first half of the season, Sarah now has new competition in recent recruit Rachael Laws whose emergency loan from Sunderland has been made into a permanent signing.

“Rach came in for a couple of games and did well. It will be good competition for us both and I’m sure the team will benefit from that. Some of the keepers in the Super League don’t really have that competition. They are settled knowing they will always play and sometimes that means you don’t always reach the standards you can. Rach and I get on well and have a bit of banter as well which is good and it always helps to have someone pushing you.” Liverpool came through a group including Everton, Doncaster and Chelsea to reach tonight’s semi-final. They have previously recorded a league double over Lincoln but the victories (1-0 and 3-2) have both been hard-fought affairs. “They’ve signed some new players including Lil Fenlon-Billson from us which will give them added confidence and spur them on. We’ve beaten them twice this season but both games have been tough and we’ve had to work hard for those wins and, of course, in a one-off game anything can happen. “They’re strong going forward and strong at the back. They’ve got two England centre-backs who have plenty of experience of playing with each other so if you do create chances you’ve really got to take them. And at the other end we’ll be doing our very best not to let them score!” Behind Casey Stoney and Sophie Bradley, Lincoln also boast the England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley – a position Sarah hopes to hold one day.

“I’ve been involved with the Under-23s for a couple of camps so hopefully I can push on from there and it would be great to play for England at some point. Having a good season with Liverpool is the main aim though and then hopefully we can see what happens from there. “After a long break we have been looking forward to getting the games going again. The Continental Cup final will be the last match of the season in October and we will be doing everything we can to make sure that Liverpool will be involved.”

“It would be great to play for England”

LIVERPOOL LADIES stars Natasha Dowie and Amanda Da Costa were on hand to share a tip or two as more than 300 youngsters flocked to The FA Girl’s Football Festival in Salford. An afternoon of football activities, coaching sessions and mini matches took centre stage at MediaCityUK’s free interactive fan zone. Games included batak boards, a speed cage, an inflatable target for shooting practice, an inflatable pitch - plus a new trailer that houses The FA Women’s Super League and Cyprus Cup trophies. Liverpool’s duo delighted youngsters by stopping for photos, signing autographs, sharing their footballing knowledge and getting involved in the games.

To add to the party atmosphere, there was hair braiding, face painting and cheerleading. After the coaching was done, it was time to settle down and cheer on England in their first match of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 - which The Three Lions narrowly lost 3-2 to Spain. Match of the Day and CBBC Newsround captured the highlights of the day and a number of BBC guests including Robbie Savage, Jacqui Oatley and ex-England International Sue Smith joined in the fun.

It has to be the FA Cup final with Everton in 2010 when we beat Arsenal 3-2 in extra-time. It was a great occasion, something I’d always dreamt about and the best day of my career so far. I want to be involved in more days like that this season and in the future.

To score the winner in that FA Cup final was brilliant. Or maybe my debut goal for England U17s against Northern Ireland. It was a half-volley that went in the top corner. My dad was in the crowd and he was crying with joy.

It was a little weird. I was there for a long time and really enjoyed it. Everton is a great club; I just felt I needed a change. The first time I played against them was the 1-1 draw in the Continental Cup back in March and we didn’t perform. But by the time the second game came around we knew we’d improved and were confident about getting a result. When we went 3-1 up I remember thinking ‘I’d like to get one’. Thankfully I did late on.

R&B or soul is what I normally listen to. I’m a big fan of Rihanna, Usher and Beyonce. I like dance music too, I love a good dance.

(Laughs) I don’t think she’s heard me too often because I can sing. The rest of the girls will back me up too. Amanda Da Costa always asks me to sing. If I’m in the car or the shower I’ll always sing along to the radio.

The last one I went to was James Morrison. Before that it would have been Adele and before that I think it was Chase & Status.

That’s an easy one to answer, number 9. I always like to wear it.

Remember The Titans is pretty good. Denzel Washington plays an American football coach. Anything with him in it is usually entertaining.

Dubai. I’ve got family out there so I visit regularly. When I’m going I always put Du-bye on Twitter and it annoys the rest of the girls. They hate it.

It was working as a waitress in a restaurant called The Fox in Harpenden. I was terrible. I never knew the numbers of the different tables. I used to always advise customers to order the chocolate dessert knowing that they wouldn’t be able to finish it. I’d then eat the leftovers in the kitchen.

Lil Billson, who was here at Liverpool during the first half of the season, is definitely one of them. She’s crazy. Koko (Corina) is funny because she’s never sure if the rest of us are winding her up. She’s always asking ‘are you joking me?’ It’s become her catchphrase.

Becky Easton is definitely a contender for that title. She’s very book smart. Katrin Omarsdottir is another, shall we say, geek. I’m only joking about that. The American girls, Whitney Engen and Amanda Da Costa, are clever and very street smart.

(Laughs) If I’m honest it’s probably me. I’m sure the rest of the girls would say that anyway. I’ll have to agree with them.

(Laughs again) Who told you that story? Yeah, it’s true. We were ordering some Thai food and I Googled a number for a restaurant called Chilli Banana near Sefton Park. When I went to pick it up they had no record of the order. After some confusion it turned out that I’d rang the restaurant in Manchester instead. That’s probably an example of why I need to read more books.
