New Staff Commencing 2019 Welcome again to our new staff members who are commencing at Lota this year. Matthew Tolchard is our Year 2/3 Teacher. Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome to all of our new and continuing students to what will undoubtedly be another wonderful year at Lota State School. Word continues to travel of the great reputation of Lota and the school’s values: Happy, Safe, and Learning. We now have 220 students enrolled, including 39 new students in Prep and we wish them all the best as they make this exciting transition in their learning at school. I have been inspired by what I have seen already at Lota State School. We have wonderful, smiling students who have come ready to enjoy their learning and who are also proud of their school. I have seen the dedicated, caring and hard-working teaching and support teams preparing for and then working with students this week. And I have also really noticed the very positive community environment within the school. That all of these things are so visible is testament to the work of the whole school community to make Lota such a great place to learn for all of our students. Our priorities for 2019 are based around Successful Learners, Engaged Learners and Quality Teaching and we will share more details on what we are focusing on in these areas during the year. Thank you for your warm welcome to Lota and I look forward to working with you and your children. Kind regards Jonathan Gagen

School Information

Arrival and Departure Procedures Students are to arrive at school after 8:30am for an 8:50am start. Students are required to sit quietly in their eating areas until the bell has rung (except Prep students who are able to access the classroom from 8:30am). Please contact the office if you are running late so we can inform the class teacher. If you arrive after 8:50am, students need to go to the office to get a late slip. If you are picking your child up early, please advise the office. You will need to collect a departure slip from the office before collecting your child. School concludes at 3pm.

Visitors & Volunteers All visitors, including parents, who visit/volunteer at the school, need to sign in at the school office first.

Parking around the school Please remember to park away from school crossing zones to ensure the safety of all of our students and families. Please do not walk through the staff carpark as this poses a risk to all.

Dogs on School Premises As some children are afraid of dogs, please do not bring dogs into the school grounds.

Sun Safety Lota State School has a NO HAT, NO PLAY rule. Please ensure your child has their hat clearly named and are bringing it to school each day.

Student Absence When reporting your child absent please phone the school office on 3906 6222 or alternatively

email [email protected]. If you know your child will be absent for more than 10 school

days you will need to complete an “Application for Exemption”. These forms are available from

the school office.

Events to Celebrate

As this is a school day, I will organise a screening the following week at school during a lunch break. I would like to say thank you once again for the amazing representation of our school made by these wonderful students and I look forward to your continuing involvement in #lotarocks. Keep on rocking. - Tori Morrad
