My favorite time of year has arrived. I enjoy the longer days and warmer temperatures. It seems as if the new year just began, and now it is halfway over. I am continually reminded of how quickly time moves. That realization nudges me to make the most of the days in my life. During the summer months, we will take a break from the Senior Fun & Fitness exercise classes. We will resume those classes in September. Although we are not hosting those classes in July and August, I encourage you to enjoy some outdoor fitness activities. A nice morning or evening walk is good for the body, mind and spirit. There are so many beautiful landscapes to observe and enjoy. As you continue to enjoy your summertime, remember to take time for yourself-and your health during this beautiful season. The Senior Friends will be active also (see calendar insert for details). I invite you to participate in the many activities that we have to offer. Whether it be a support group, birthday party, Movie-N-Munch, or Dine with the Docs, we hope you will take advantage and participate in all of the fun! Also, stay up to date with the latest happenings at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by following us online at our website, LakeCumberlandHospital.com and on our Facebook page. The hospital hosts many community events that we would like you all to be a part of. I hope to see you soon! Blessings to each of you, Summer is here! SENIOR FRIENDS BENEFITS

On Thursday, June 20th, the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program hosted their 2019 graduation ceremony at The Center for Rural Development. This year, the program graduated four doctors from the Family Medicine program and six doctors from the Internal Medicine program.

2019 graduates include: Punita Dhindsa, DO; Elizabeth Durham, DO; Lauren Riderikhoff, DO; Tina Scoggins, DO; Andrew Blakely, DO; Erika Kelly, DO; Ryan Moss, DO; Rainer Oliver, DO; Daniel Shields, DO; and Morgan Shields, DO. Each of these graduates have accepted positions either here locally, or will be moving locations to join practices across several different regions and states.

The Residency Program at LCRH takes pride in the ability to prepare residents to provide a full-spectrum of care to our community. Innovative curriculum incorporating both inpatient and outpatient medical experiences, as well as the many sub-specialty rotations helps train residents to develop the broad clinical, teaching and procedural skill set essential to providing quality, evidence based care. Both the Internal Medicine program and Family Medicine program are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medicial Education (ACGME).

Former LCRH CEO, Mark Brenzel developed the idea of a residency program in 2012. His hope, and ongoing objective, is recruitment and retention of quality physicians within Pulaski County and our region. This program is vital to the community and our hospital as it ensures both the present and future of quality care provided within our area.

The residency programs are led by an experienced team of physicians: Joseph Weigel, MD, MACP- Internal Medicine Program Director; Reaford Blackburn, Jr. MD - Internal Medicine Associate Program Director; Patrick F. Jenkins, Jr., MD - Family Medicine Program Director; and Jonathan Ruby, MD- Family Medicine Associate Program Director.

On July 1, 2019 a new class of residents joined the LCRH team. These residents, along with the residents in their second and third year, are currently seeing patients today. For more information on our Residency Program, visit us online at gme.lakecumberlandhospital.com.
