Three months left – where
have the last 9 months gone.
On March 11th
the GVK
Lionesses hosted the Ladies in
Lionism luncheon at Ferny
Grove Sports Club.
Congratulations Lionesses on
a great event.
That night six of us attended a
sausage sizzle which was held
in George Wilmore Park
'Movie in the Park'. This was
a great night – lots of people
attended and lots of sausages
were cooked and sold.
Thank you to the organisers of
'The Romans are Coming'
which was held at the Den on
15th
March. For those who
were unable to be there you
missed a great night.
Tonight will be a very busy
night. We are being visited by
members of Aspley Lions
Club, it is our Elections night
and we say goodbye and good
luck to Peter and Ditha as
they move across to
Perth. You will both be sorely
missed. Thank you very much
for your input and your
friendship.
I would also like to
congratulate Leo Jesse Pascoe
who is Queensland Leo of the
Year. Can Aspley Lions Club
take back these
congratulations to him and
wish him well when he
competes in Hobart.
Our District Governor Norm
Jensen has put out an appeal
for 1c, 2c and 5c pieces to be
collected. These will be
donated to Australian Lions
Childhood Cancer Research
Foundation. If any members
have any of these coins they
would like to donate there will
be a jar available at each
meeting in which these can be
placed. Can I also suggest
that we do the same thing at
our sausage sizzles?
On Sunday April 9th
between
9am and 12 noon Tim Mander
is holding a 'Neighbour Day
and Easter Egg Hunt' at
Terallba Park. Zone 7 is
attending this morning
handing out brochures about
Lions to the families who
attend.
As I write this report, our
neighbours in the north of the
state have suffered devastation
in the form of Tropical
Cyclone Debbie. Can I ask
that club members keep them
in your thoughts and prayers?
Yours in Lionism
Wendy
March has been busy with
many projects to be done.
First Harvey Norman sausage
sizzle 3rd March. Lionesses
were asked to promote
Women in Lions celebrating
Lions centennial year at
Brookside on same Saturday.
Thanks to all Lionesses who
attended. Lions Sue Young &
Lion Jim helped at sausage
sizzle all day & went back to
Den to wash up, many thanks
to these Lions for helping out
with this project.
Ladies in Lionism Luncheon
& 40 years of Lioness Club
being chartered was well
attended by Lioness & Lions
Clubs. It was very pleasing to

see all Clubs celebrating with
G.V.K. Lionesses at the
Luncheon. The Luncheon took
a lot of planning with lots of
meetings & phone calls with
committee of Linda, Robyn
&Grace. All Lionesses’ helped
in different areas . Thanks to
all members for their help &
support. Our guest’s numbers
128 which was great & we
hope all guests enjoyed
luncheon. Thanks to the two
charter members Pat Barton
who helped with Lioness
pledge. Margaret Ryan spoke
about G.V.K. Club being
chartered 40 years ago. It was
great that you both could
attend our Luncheon.
Happy Birthday Melissa on
31st March. Linda 4th April .

MOVIE IN THE PARK
SAUSAGE SIZZLE
Well, we and the council
underestimated the turnout
for this event.
Kev asked for 4 people, we
had 6, could have done with
12. I don’t think we have ever
been asked for “10 sausages
and 10 drinks please” before.
We had very few orders for 1
or 2 most were 4, 5 or 6. We
also served 4 lots of 9.
Michelle and her daughter
were kept busy bringing us
more supplies from the
supermarkets. Poor Wendy on
the till sometimes had to get a
calculator out as she was
serving drinks as well. Darryl
spent 3hrs putting bread on
serviettes. Kev and Graham
kept the BBQ stacked and
Tim and I added the sausages
and onions to the bread. We
didn’t even have time to eat.
We will be prepared next
time.
We really lived up to the
Lion’s Motto WE SERVE.
Margaret Timms
All our prayers and good
wishes are with Margaret for
a successful surgery and a full
recovery. When she gets to
rehab we could think about a
visiting roster.
ROMAN NIGHT
The night was a
great success
thanks to
Sandra, Des,
Rosy and
Denis, who
worked
hard to make it enjoyable.
The food was great and we all
had a good time dressed up in
our togas.
We should think about having
an international night a couple
of times a year.
OOPS.
Who were the 2 members who
turned up at doughnuts a
month early last Sunday?

FAREWELL TO PETER & DITHA MASON
This meeting we will say a sad
farewell to Peter and Ditha,
who have both been a
wonderful integral part of our
club since August 1993, and
were always ready to help at
all levels of club activities. We
all remember Ditha’s
beautiful flower and table
arrangements on special
nights. Thanks Peter for
introducing me to the MS
walk, I will carry on in your
honour each year. You both
did a wonderful job of the fire
poster competition. Also Peter
you did a great job as tail
twister.
We will expect lots of photos
when the new baby arrives
and I am sure some of us will
visit you on our travels. I will continue to Email the prints to
you each month. You will both
be missed.

Valentine’s Day
I have just booked a table for
me and the wife to celebrate
our Wedding Anniversary.
Bound to end in tears though;
she’s lousy at snooker.
The Boss
Life does not always get better
just because you are the boss!
The Australian Taxation
Office suspected a fishing boat
owner wasn't paying proper
wages to his deckhand and
sent an agent to investigate
him.
ATO AUDITOR: "I need a
list of your employees and how
much you pay them".
Boat Owner:
"Well, there's Clarence, my
deckhand, he's been with me
for 3 years. I pay him $1,000
a week plus free room and
board. Then there's the
mentally challenged guy. He
works about 18 hours every
day and does about 90% of
the work around here. He
makes about $10 per week,
pays his own room and board,
and I buy him a bottle of
Bundaberg rum and a dozen
Crown Lagers every Saturday
night so he can cope with
life. He also gets to sleep with
my wife occasionally".
ATO AUDITOR: "That's the
guy I want to talk to - the
mentally challenged one".
Boat Owner: "That'll be
me. What'd you want to
know?
Doctor to patient: “I have
good news and bad news. The
good news is that you are not a
hypochondriac.”

Lions Code of Ethics
To show my faith in the
worthiness of my vocation by
industrious application to the
end that I may merit a
reputation for quality of
service.
To seek success and to
demand all fair remuneration
or profit as my just due, but to
accept no profit or success at
the price of my own self-
respect lost because of unfair
advantage taken or because of
questionable acts on my part.
To remember that in building
up my business it is not
necessary to tear down
another’s; to be loyal to my
clients or customers and true
to myself.
Whenever a doubt arises as to
the right or ethics of my
position or action towards
others, to resolve such doubt
against myself.
To hold friendship as an end
and not a means. To hold that
true friendship exists not on
account of the service
performed by one to another,
but that true friendship
demands nothing but accepts
service in the spirit in which it
is given.
Always to bear in mind my
obligations as a citizen to my
nation, my state and my
community, and to give to
them my unswerving loyalty
in word, act and deed. To give
them freely of my time, labor
and means.
To aid others by giving my
sympathy to those in distress,
my aid to the weak, and my
substance to the needy.
To be careful with my
criticism and liberal with my
praise; to build up and not
destroy.
Lion’s Club Purposes
To Create and foster a spirit
of understanding among the
peoples of the world.
To promote the principles of
good government and good
citizenship.
To fund and otherwise serve
the civic, cultural, social and
moral welfare of the
community.
To assist financially,
culturally, socially and
morally the handicapped,
disadvantaged and infirm of
the community both directly
and also indirectly.
To unite the clubs in the
bonds of friendship, good
fellowship and mutual
understanding.
To provide a forum for the
open discussion of all matters
of public interest: provided
however, that partisan politics
and secretarian religion shall
not be debated by club
members.
To encourage service-
minded people to serve their
community without personal
financial reward, and to
encourage efficiency and
promote high ethical
standards in commerce,
industry, professions, public
works and private endeavors.
