K1 and K2 Activities – 3rd Nov 2020

Students of K1&K2 indulged in a fun art session in which they made different types of

"Monoprints" the students had lots of fun doing the art and made different painting such as

flowers, expressions.

Vertical Planning Meeting - 3rd Nov 2020

The vertical planning meeting was conducted for the Science department staff Ms.

Nishanthini - Chemistry facilitator, Ms. Vidya Sagari - Physics facilitator, Ms.

Nivetha- Biology facilitator in the presence of Ms. Sangeetha the DP Coordinator

and Principal

The following points were discussed.

Syllabus completion according to timeline

DP1 Physics and Chemistry portions completion for the first term examination

Community service

Revision Plan for term examination

IA for DP2

K3 Activities – 4th Nov 2020

K3 children were involved in a beautiful rainbow art which is done with the introduction of

the new Art technique “Cotton bud printing”. Children enjoyed the cotton bud printing and

they used their creativity to frame the background with color pencils and crayons which was

really creative.

The vertical planning meeting was conducted on 4th Nov 2020 for the department of

Individuals and Societies. The Coordinators headed the meeting and the discussion was

based on

The revision plan for Business Management (DP2) should be sent to the Principal

and DP coordinator.

K1 &K2 Special Assembly – (2nd Nov – 6th Nov 2020)

The students of K1&K2 hosted the assembly for the week 2nd-6th November. The children

showcased their talent by Bible reading, singing the prayer songs, giving emphasis on the

mother tongue by reciting the Thirukural and by conveying interesting facts to the entire

school. It was astonishing to see how well the children carried themselves throughout the

week displaying their performance so confidently. The tiny tots were appreciated by the

Principal and the programme coordinators for the overwhelming performance and the support

rendered by the teachers and the parents.

K3 Activities – 10th Nov 2020

K3 children were involved in a wonderful game “Snake and ladder” with words that has

short vowel sounds and digraphs in it. Children found it more interesting rolling the dice,

waiting for their chance to read the word through blending and to prove their confidence in

reading the word.

Word for the Day:

Children participated actively with a daily activity to introduce and teach a word of their

choice to their peers. Their peers should make a note of the words in their notebook as well.

At the end of the week children will be engaged with activity to find the words that have

relevant meaning and the rhyming words as well.

Children’s Day celebration – 12th Nov 2020 (PYP,MYP and DP)

"Every child is unique in their own way"

The children's day was celebrated for DP students in our school on 12th Nov 2020. The

programme started with beautiful tradition song in French sung by Mr. Serge Landry,

Language Acquisition Facilitator. Fun games were conducted by the homeroom facilitators of

DP1 and DP2 followed by dedicating sobriquets to the students.

Children were surprised with fun games like blind folded drawing, pick me up without

disturbing, treasure hunt at home and they were finally made to feel happy with the title

designated to them and the group photo of the Students of the academic year 2020-2021. The

homeroom teachers made special videos, picture collages and PPT’s for their students.

Students were given titles and awards, fun games were conducted by the teachers. Students

and teachers enjoyed and shared their love and gratitude toward each other.

Effervescence Event PYP 1-PYP5

Grade 1 Effervescence was a delightful event where parents witnessed the learning of our

little inquirers. The students enthusiastically showcased their learning of unit-2 (Where we

are in place and time) by speaking on different topics. The students of PYP1 took turns and

spoke about all the subject areas they have gone through, during this unit.

The students showcased their learning of Landforms and their types. They were able to

explain the difference between the Mountains and Hills as well as between Rivers, lakes, and

Oceans.

The students spoke about the National symbols of India and their significance.

In Math, they explained the uses of Tally Marks, Carroll Diagrams, and Venn Diagrams.

They presented the Addition sum without carryover and Subtraction without borrowing.

In English, they discussed Action words, Articles, and the rules of sentence making.

Students also spoke about the Galaxy artworks, Galaxy Painting, Backgrounds, Different

Landforms style paintings which they learned during their visual art sessions.

At the end of each topic/concept, the work done by the students related to that topic was

showcased and they took turns explaining their work.

Students took pleasure and a sense of pride by conducting a quiz for parents where they asked

different questions from parents and felt gratified by telling them if the given answer is

correct or not.

Guest Lecture on Book Reading – 11th Nov 2020

An interesting and captivating guest lecture on “Book Reading” was conducted on Monday

between 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM for students of MYP1 to DP2. Dr. Olivannan, Book written

and Editor, facilitated the session, his inspiring open talk helped the students to understand

the importance of books and understand ways in which reading can help them in their future.

This event was initiated and organised by Adhirayan from MYP 5 for his personal project,

the goal for the project is to create a website (digital platform) for all book reading

enthusiasts of the school where they can post book reviews and have discussions on them.

K1 and K2 - 17th Nov 2020

Students were introduced to the letter M using jam board. They learned words

related to the letter “M”. Further, they developed their fine motor skills by following step by

step process to draw a monkey. The students were really enthusiastic throughout the drawing

process and had fun colouring it.

Students were involved in a fun and exciting experience of developing their artistic

skills by creating an air balloon through “fingerprinting”. Learning becomes fun when it

comes out with excitement and involvement.

World Television Day Celebration – 18th Nov 2020

On account of World TV day, students joined together in a fancy-dress competition in which

they dressed up as their favourite cartoon characters. They had lots of fun explaining their

characters to their friends and why they like them. It was a perfect set up for the children to

communicate with each other.

K3 -Word for the Day Activity:

Children were asked to teach a word daily to their friends along with the

spellings and they were asked to frame a sentence with the word also. At the end of the week,

Children were given options to choose the number to get a random word and based on the

words chosen by them, they were provided with activities like arranging the words in

alphabetical order, identifying the vowels in the words and making a sentence with the given

words.

Comparison of Numbers:

Stories gives us a strong understanding of any concepts discussed in the class. The class was

started with the introduction of the hungry crocodile story and then it was taken through a

picture inquiry, which helped the students to involve more on their learning. Children

understood the basics clearly which was evident through the reflection worksheets done by

them at home.

Guest Lecture – E Commerce – Is it the Future of Commerce ?

The guest lecture on " E-Commerce- Is it the future of commerce?” was conducted on 18th

Nov 2020 by A. Prathap, a passionate Entrepreneur cum Director of ecommerce. The

students of MYP4, 5 and DP 1 and 2 were the participants. The basic concepts and

procedures of ecommerce were clearly discussed in detail in the session. The lecture was

indeed very much informative and interactive. Students’ queries were clearly addressed in the

session.

World Television Day Celebration - 20th Nov 2020

Television plays a major role and creates more impact on Children. To understand the

world of our Kids, GIS IB has provided a space for the children to dress up as their favorite

character and explain about them. Wow!! What an amazing day it was, Kids amazed us with

different characters and they came to a conclusion stating the main role of these characters

that emphasize on helping others.

Unit 3 Introduction Meeting PYP 1-5

PYP1 Unit-3 introduction meet was an interactive session with parents where they got an

overview of the unit. The parents participated with full zeal and gave their inputs about

students' strengths, needs, and learning styles.

The parents were briefed regarding the learning methodology and the tools that will support

to make the class more interesting during this unit.The parents gave positive feedback

regarding the efforts taken by the school during these virtual classes and were elated to see

their wards grow with great zeal and getting accustomed to the virtual online practices of

learning.

A special guest lecture cum interactive session on "Non literary text" was conducted on 24th

Nov 2020 for DP1 and DP2 students. Ms. Padma, IBDP Language and Literature

Facilitator, Silver Oak School, Bangalore was the resource person.

The entire session was interesting, interactive and engaging.

Collaboration Meetings:

The PYP,MYP and DP collaborations were held on a weekly basis. Some of the dicussions

are appended below.

PYP Collaboration

The PYP collaboration meeting was held on the 16th Nov 2020.The following were

discussed.

Inquiry in the EYP - Discussions on the standards & practices

Sharing of best practices in the EYP K2, the homeroom teacher Ms. Sharon explained

on the progress on the Transdisciplinary Theme on ‘How we express ourselves,’ and

added the strategies that would help children bring out their emotions, and be more

expressive and confident while showcasing their learning.

Dates discussed on the

*Summative assessment dates for EYP and PYP -8th,9th,10th December 2020.

*Deadline for sending Rubrics for EYP &PYP: 1st December 2020.

* Deadline for completing Term-1 Gradebook from K1-PYP 5 - 11th December 2020.

A discussion and reflection on the new organising structure of enhanced PYP,

discussions on the importance of agency in the enhanced and the extent to which

students are involved throughout the inquiry process.

The outcome of the teachers comprehending the IB documents -standard &practices

and the outcome of the student’s expectation to be achieved at the next level was

clearly understood and acknowledged.

MYP Collaboration

A detailed discussion with the MYP 1 subject teachers regarding the completion of

the SA activities by the MYP 1 students.

A presentation on applying the MYP 5 eAssessment global context – identities and

relations in science subjects and the importance of global context in the eAssessment

as well as other grades in the MYP was facilitated by Ms.Nishanthini.

DP Collaboration

A. Extended Essay:

1. Discussion about DP2 students to use school laboratory for completing their

laboratory activities in extended essay and IA.

2. Dates for interior reflection on extended were finalised

as follows: 4th Dec 2020- Computer science and Biology

11th Dec 2020- Chemistry

3. Rough draft submission date: 30th

Dec2020 4.Final draft submission

date: 11th Jan 2021

B) Completion of all the subjects IAs before the end of Feb 2021

C) Discussion was also made on connecting CAS with Physics, Chemistry,

Computer Science and History.

EYP – Rithvik Jayaprakash,K2

Rithvik displays the attributes of the IB learner profile as being Principled as he

communicates with clarity to his peers He never fails to complete tasks on time and uses his

own imagination while doing it.He likes to share his ideas with his classmates however, he

waits for his opportunity to do so. Overall he is a quick and enthusiastic learner.

PYP – Iksha, PYP 5

Iksha is an energetic child who demonstrates strong academic understanding in all subject

areas. She stays focussed on the task and has showcased the IB learner profile of being a

good Inquirer and a knowledgeable person. She pays close attention to every small detail and

makes sure that all her work is done neatly and submitted on time. She is a good

communicator with strong verbal and written skills, which helps her to express her views

clearly. She actively enjoys learning and wishing her all the best to acquire more

knowledge throughout her life.

MYP – Keerthana , MYP 2

Keerthana Premkumar from MYP 2, has been awarded as the 'Student of the month' for

November for her excellent participation during the online classes and offline tasks. She has

been identified as a good communicator as she always initiates interesting discussion and

motivates her peers to participate in activities during class time.

DP – Shathriya narayanan, DP 2

Shathriya is more composed and calm in whatever challenges set before him. He actively

participates in class and does a nice job on his work without needing praise or attention. We

can always count on him to do the right thing whether we are watching or not. He attributes

the IB learner profile 'Balanced'.
