It is early morning, and it is time to prepare the Market square in Delft for the big show this afternoon. Especially regarding the new Formula Student Germany rules, we were intent on keeping everything as safe as possible. Aside from instructing the drivers to drive carefully and limiting the power and torque settings, the fences were put in place, and the flags of our partners displayed. Another team prepared the truck for the unveiling of the DUT14. Large pieces of black cloth were draped over the truck with a quite inventive method, while it was being pumped full of smoke and the DUT14 was hidden under a shroud of mystery.

Meanwhile, at our offices, the barbecue was being prepared: all salads were made ready for display, the cutlery and barbecues were set up. Everything was good to go for the afternoon.

At 12:00, the drink started in Theater de Veste, a beautiful location close to the centre of Delft. Here, close relatives and partners were invited and treated to a drink on the house. Meanwhile, Team Manager Tim de Moree and Chief Engineer Marinus van der Meijs were preparing their presentation one last time.Around 13:00, it was time to open the doors to the large room itself. Being able to hold over 500 people, the room was able to hold all attendees with some room left. The presentation covered what the team had been up to during the past six months, when we last talked about our design. This time, it was time to

talk about the production and assembly phase: the ups and downs, an “emotional rollercoaster” if you will. With some humour, the duo rolled through the entire 6 months, ending with a small teaser video of what was to come at the market square.

After the presentation, the attendees headed to the Markt, where the truck and demo area awaited them. By now, the entire setup had attracted quite a few people from Delft itself, wondering what the situation was about. Especially the cars on display drew quite some attention.

In front of the smoking truck, the (from left to right) DUT13, DUT12 and DUT11 were displayed. All shiny and ready to drive, the attendees were able to admire the cars from up close. Soon enough, the stage next to the cars was taken by Tim de Moree and Wim Thijs, the teams’ Faculty Advisor.

One can say many things about Wim Thijs, but one thing is for sure: he has a way with words. Nearly on his own, with sometimes the backup of our Team Manager, our Faculty advisor entertained the entire Market square for nearly 45 minutes. Ranging from explanations about the Formula Student project to demanding that the mayor allow us to perform donuts on the Market, there was enough time to prepare the DUT13 and DUT12 for their demo. Once we gave the green light, and some people (amongst who the Team Managers’ girlfriend) were invited to unveil the DUT14 from the truck.

We would like to make use of this opportunity to thank Wim Thijs for being there and getting the show on the road!

Almost showtime... This is a shot from inside the truck, right before unveiling the DUT14. If you look closely, you can discern one of the drivers standing mysteriously in the shadows.

There it is! With the music playing loud and the smoke clearing up, the DUT14 was unveiled to the public with quite some spectacle. After the show, the demo area was cleared so the cars could show off their power.
