We still have a few activities to organise for the students to participate in before the end of the school year. I hope the weather will be kind to us, so these events can run smoothly. Over the past weeks, teaching programmes, student assessment and reporting has taken place. I have been analysing the data to see how it has benefited our students and looking to see how we could make improvements, and on which areas need further development. This year we have focused on writing with the Accelerated Learning in Literacy (ALL) programme. This targeted 46 students, from year 2 through to year 6 that were below standard in their writing. From this group, 39 students showed improved accelerated progress to achieve at their level in National Standards. Also this year’s preliminary results show a percentage improvement over the whole school in both reading and maths and again targets groups of students below standard especially in the year 3 cohort. The most pleasing result was the analysis of our year 6 students, out of a group of 58 students, 34 have been taught at DPS since they started their schooling; 32 (94%) leave with a reading age of 10.5 years or higher, 85% at or above in Reading, 75% at or above Maths in National Standards. Reading results in the STAR tests for 2016 were; Year 6 students were 88% at or above, Year 5-94%, Year 4-91% and Year 3-100%. These results reflect our high standard in reading, thanks to the great efforts of our staff and also to you, our parents/caregivers. Next year we will be making some changes to our teacher organisation. We will start in 2017 with 4 senior rooms, 4 middle rooms, ( a new teacher will be appointed to teach in the middle syndicate), 5 combined year 1 & 2 classes, a new appointment will be made for one of these classes and two Reception (New Entrant) rooms being taught by Mrs Papesch and Miss Bennett. Another change will be Miss Smith and Mrs Bishop who will share teaching Tui 1 and teach Reading Recovery. The final staff configuration depends on appointment discussions presently happening. I am currently working on the final planning for 2017 staff requirements, budgets and programmes, if any parents are wishing to know more, please come and talk to me. GOLD AWARD Congratulations to the following students who will receive their Gold Award at the next assembly; Tuharetoa Te Rore, Lydia Carey, Hunter Schick, Tupuarangi Fraser, Angela Martin, Chevy Mabbett, Paige Peterson-Smith, Ben Clarkin, Luke Jenkins, Kayla Shannon, Leia Hill, Lucy Pulman, Oshen Shelford, Liam Nicholas, Zoe Godfrey, Tarra Work, Shona Jefcoate, Rico Connelly-Parry, Kalisi Fisiiahi, Charlie Miller, Ava Rintoul-McCready, Ainslee Lugtigheid, Juliet Gallaghan, Isabelle Simpkin, Tayden Vuletich, Brooklyn Perreau, Vanessa Strong-Byers, Jordana Wong, Cordell Olsen, Kalani Katonivualiku, Marlee Phillips, Phoenix Yeabsley, Wade Keyte-Cleverly, Ella Randall, Madison Kelsen, Shoulan Dodds, Eugenie Simpkin, Chantelle Afoa, Taylor Pyke, Ataleea Manning, Cooper Pulman, Dominique Brooklyn, Lilly Hayward, Luca Mark, Mikayla McKenzie, Emma Talijancich, Lositika Lomu, Liberty Boakes, and Jordy Searle. DPS ATHLETICS The weather played in our favour and we were able to complete the events, except for the award ceremony, when the rain came. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the students as they competed and showed off their skills and talents. Thanks to all helpers and our hardworking PTA. Newsletter Wednesday 30 November 2016
