“Arsenic and Old Lace”, the Secondary Production

video is Available now ¡El video de la Obra de Teatro de Secundaria “Arsenic

and Old Lace” ya está disponible!

Thanks to the hard work of Julián Cordero and Martín Albuja in Year 11, we now have a video of this year’s school production of Arsenic and Old Lace!

If you would like a copy of the video, please send your son/daughter to school with a blank DVD (the file is over 3GB) and ask them to see Miss Charing.

Celebrate Child´s Day at Giving Tree Books Celebremos el Día del Niño en Giving Tree Books

We invite you to a Special Story Time, on Saturday, June 1 at 11.00 am at Giving Tree Books. Giving Tree Books is located in Cumbayá, Plaza Modena (Local 3), Km 10 Via Interoceánica.

Giving Tree Books will be welcoming Ms. Lisa Kohn, Lisa is a renowned jazz singer, who will be there to share stories and songs.

From the Desk of the Director Desde el Escritorio de la Directora

Parent Information Session Regarding Next Academic Year I would like to invite parents and guardians of all of our returning students (those who will study at BSQ in the 2013/2014 academic year) to attend an information session about next academic year. We will hold this information session on Wednesday the 12th of June at 5.30pm in the Secondary library. I look forward to seeing you all there. Next Year’s School Calendar In order to have our calendar approved for the 2013/2014 school year we must submit it to the Ministry of Education. As the Ministry only recently released the new regulations for Bi-National Schools, it impacted on our ability to have our calendar approved. We have only been able to submit our calendar for approval this week. This Ministry may take up to 15 working days to reply. Following that date I will be able to send to our families a copy of our term dates for next academic year. I appreciate your patience in this matter that is outside of our control.

Información a los Padres y Madres de Familia acerca del próximo año académico Me gustaría invitar a los padres/madres y tutores de todos nuestros estudiantes que regresan en septiembre (los que van a estudiar en BSQ en el año 2013/2014), para asistir a una sesión informativa sobre el próximo año académico. Tendremos esta reunión informativa, el miércoles 12 de junio a las 17:30 en la biblioteca de secundaria. Espero verlos a todos allí. Calendario Escolar para el próximo año Para que nuestro calendario 2013/2014sea aprobado hay que enviarlo al Ministerio de Educación. Ya que el Ministerio publicó recientemente el nuevo reglamento para los Colegios Bi-Nacionales, esto impactó en nuestra capacidad para tener el calendario aprobado. Por tal razón, hemos presentado nuestro calendario para su aprobación en esta semana. El Ministerio puede tomar hasta 15 días hábiles para responder. Después de esa fecha, estaré en capacidad de enviar a nuestras familias una copia de nuestras fechas para el próximo año académico. Les agradezco su paciencia en este asunto que está fuera de nuestro control.

Procedure for Entrance into the School One of our main concerns is the safety and security of all our students, staff and visitors; to achieve this we kindly ask the support of parents/ guardians with the following – 1. Any time that a parent, guardian or visitor

comes to school they must be signed in at the security booth, announced by the security personnel, and escorted to the Reception area of the school. This allows us to know who is on campus and where they are in case of any kind of emergency or evacuation.

2. The school Receptionist will advise the person that you have your appointment with, that you have arrived in the school. The person you are meeting will meet you in the Reception area.

3. All appointments must be previously coordinated (via phone call or email) with the Secretary of the appropriate section.

4. Parents, guardians or visitors may not visit the classrooms, walk close by them, or stay in the playground or canteen areas during lesson or break time, unless they have a meeting (previously arranged) with a staff member. We ask this so that we don’t interrupt students or teachers during learning and play time.

Procedimiento para Ingresar al Colegio Uno de los objetivos primordiales de The British School es precautelar la seguridad de cada uno de nuestros estudiantes, para esto es necesario el apoyo de los padres/madres de familia o sus representantes y visitas, por lo que:

1. Cada vez que un padre/madre de familia, representante legal o visita, ingrese al Colegio debe registrarse en la guardianía, ser anunciado por el personal de seguridad y escoltado al área de recepción del Colegio. Esto nos permite saber quién está en el campus y dónde se encuentra en caso de una emergencia o evacuación.

2. La Recepcionista del Colegio se encargará de avisar su llegada a la persona con la que usted tiene cita. Esta persona se encontrará con usted en el área de la Recepción.

3. Todas las citas deben ser previamente agendadas (vía telefónica o por correo electrónico) con la secretaria de la sección correspondiente.

4. Los padres/madres de familia, representantes o visitas no pueden visitar las aulas de clase, acercarse a las mismas o a las áreas de juego durante la jornada escolar, a menos que sea por una cita previa con un profesor. Esto se solicita para no distraer o interrumpir a los estudiantes y/o profesores en sus actividades regulares.

5. Les solicitamos su colaboración con nuestro personal de seguridad en los siguientes puntos: - Entregar cualquier documento que se

les solicite (como su cédula de identidad)

- Atender a sus instrucciones con respecto al parqueo

- Comunicarse amable y respetuosamente con ellos

- Atender sus instrucciones con respecto al ingreso al Colegio

- Usar las identificaciones colgantes que ellos le entregarán
