Dear Parents and Caregivers
The last week of term one, hard to believe as it seems to have
passed so rapidly. It has been a busy one full of events and
activities which I know your children will have enjoyed as much
as we have enjoyed providing them.
Over the past term we have been in the unfortunate position at
times of needing to change our schedule of events and this has
highlighted for us the need to be rigid in our planning. In this
rapidly changing world the ability for parents to stay here for
longer periods is diminishing and therefore our need to stick to a
timetable has become far more apparent. Many of our parents
now work and taking time off work requires juggling and often a
sympathetic boss. If for any reason you have come to school only
to miss your child taking part then on behalf of us all here at
school I apologise and know it must be really frustrating. To help
keep in closer contact with you we have a new app coming which
will enable you to receive text updates for things happening at
school – cancellations, changes, bus hold ups and the like. It will
of course be free and help you to know just what is going on. This
should be in operation as from the beginning of term two. In
addition to this I have stressed the importance of sticking to what
has been advertised and hopefully this should smooth the flow
somewhat. Just know that teachers and staff do work very hard to
provide the best programme they can but as it is in all our lives
things can change and alter in circumstances beyond our control
and this has been the case from time to time in term one. If
outside agencies double book time without consultation with each
other – as in regional sporting and cultural events then this has a
real impact on the schools taking part. It highlights the number of
opportunities now available to children and the need for accurate
communication and when things beyond ones control spiral it
creates tension for everyone else. Not that this helps when as
parents we arrive to watch our child take part only to find they
have already had their time. I think the new app will really help
though.
We have parent interviews over the next couple of days and not
only as your principal but also as a parent myself I cannot stress
how important this first meeting is. This time enables you to get
to know your child’s teacher, find out how the class runs and
most importantly where your child is at and where their strengths
and needs are. Do try to make your time and if for some reason
you cannot make the interview let us know and we will
reschedule for you. Unfortunately if you are running late your
time will be reduced because as you can imagine parents can have
multiple interviews and need to be able to move from one to the
next. I can recall missing a couple over the years myself and
almost inevitably I missed a chance to understand something that
later in the year I wished I had sorted sooner.
We have lots of lost property waiting to be turned into found
property when you locate those items you can no longer find n
your child’s bedroom. Take time before the end of the week to
check it out, you will be surprised.
If I don’t see you at end of term assembly (and I hope to) then
please enjoy a little relaxation time with your children over the
break. They grow up so fast and next thing you know they are off
into the wide world so it is really worth grabbing every moment.
Yours in teaching
