KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together” NEWSLETTER 12 - 2019 Thursday 16 th May, 2019 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT We would like to congratulate our students for their efforts in Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN this week. Writing was conducted on Tuesday, Reading on Wednesday, Language Conventions today and Numeracy tomorrow. Any students who were absent have the opportunity to sit a make-up test until tomorrow. Kim Mitchell (Leading Teacher for Learning and Teaching) has worked tirelessly to ensure that every organizational aspect and contingency was covered and the conducting of the national testing on line for the second year has again had few difficulties. All participating students will receive their participating certificates and all should be very proud of their efforts in completing the 4 days of the on line national testing program. The results of NAPLAN testing will be forwarded to schools and individuals in August. We thank parent’s support, particularly with encouraging their child/ren’s resilience and effort in remaining calm, pacing themselves and attempting everything. Although it is not the only assessment which is used in schools, it is a significant undertaking to ensure the scheduling and organization is the same for all participating students across Australia. Congratulations is also afforded to every student and class who attended the PFA Mothers Day stall last Thursday or Friday. Our large group of willing and hardworking PFA members commented on the manners and order exhibited by the students in buying Mothers Day gifts. The PFA again sourced a broad range of quality and reasonably priced gifts. $4,000 was taken by the PFA at the Mother’s Day stall with expenses still to come out of this total. We thank the members of the PFA who so willingly give their time and effort for the good of the school and our students. We hope that all mothers and grandmothers enjoyed their special day. Melton City Council have forwarded an invitation for kinship carers or grandparents, who care for children and adolescents attending KPS, to attend a kinship carer’s forum next Wednesday 22nd May. It is a great opportunity to meet other grandparents and kinship carers within the municipality and also to learn about recent changes, trends and issues in regards to kinship care. Please see the forum’s flyer included in the newsletter. If you have any questions or bookings, please contact Deb Richards from Melton City Council on 9747 7395 Although some families have visited the lost property drawers in the main building foyer, there are still a huge number of un- named items remaining. Labelled items are returned to students in their classrooms and I remind all families to clearly and permanently label all articles of children’s uniform, including drink bottles and shoes. Please access lost property if you are looking for an item of missing unlabelled clothing. We also remind our community about adhering to council and traffic laws when driving and parking around our school and Kurunjang Secondary’s perimeter. Many of our parents utilize the public parking at the rear of Kurunjang Secondary, and adjacent to the Council sports oval. This area also has a fenced carpark which is Kurunjang Secondary property. Unfortunately, it was reported this week that some parents from our school were verbally abusive to secondary staff who informed them of PRINCIPAL’S REPORT the private parking. As I have done previously, I thank the vast majority of people who model responsible and respectful behaviour to their children and within the community. ~ Learning Together STUDENT OF THE WEEK AWARDS Student of the week awards are made each week and announced in the newsletter on a Thursday. WOOLWORTHS EARN AND

LEARN PROGRAM

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier than ever to earn valuable equipment for your primary school, secondary school or Early Learning Centre. In our last campaign, more than

16,000 schools and Early Learning Centres benefited from the program, boosting supplies in classrooms, libraries, music rooms, gymnasiums and science labs.

It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 1st May and Tuesday 25th June 2019 or while stock lasts, when your staff

and parents shop at Woolworths they can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator, via team members at the self-service checkout or through an online order and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There will be one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards). Once

completed, simply place the Sticker Sheet in the Collection Box at the Student Foyer or Woolworths Coburn Shopping Centre or Woodgrove Shopping Centre.
