This will be communicated to parents should the need arise. I know that some students are absent from school due to illness, I thank parents for keeping their sick children away from school – especially at this time. I also know that some families have chosen to self- isolate by choice. Please know that at present there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 within our school community. There are very strict reporting procedures for this. If a case is confirmed, this will be quickly reported to parents. At this stage, while schools are still open, I must look after the welfare of the teachers. Their focus at the moment is on day to day teaching. There is no expectation they should plan for their teaching day as well as planning for students not at school. I do obviously understand that parents of students at home want them to continue learning. It is for this reason we have put together a guide for parents to enable them to support their child’s learning while they are not at school. This will be sent out today via the Skoolbag APP. Could I also remind all families of the need to look after the mental well being of themselves and their family members. Look out for signs of stress in family members and take steps to reduce stress and anxiety. listening to music may make a huge difference. Remember to talk to your children about what is happening and reassure them that they are safe and loved. There are many relaxation APPs, Smiling Mind is a free APP that has kid friendly relaxation exercises. As a community we are all in this together, let’s remember to be kind to each other and look out for the more vulnerable members of our community. Kind Regards, Mrs Sandra McKay Principal

Important Information Term Accounts Term accounts for Term 2 were due to be sent home on Monday 23rd March. At this stage we will be delaying this until we are in a better position to ascertain what events will be able to run in Term 2. Once they are sent, you will notice there is no “Technology Levy”. I would like to thank parents for supporting the school’s aim to increase technology opportunities for students by contributing to this levy. We have now reached a stage where the technology needs of the school can be supported by school funding. Cancelled Events As you are aware, due to COVID-19, we have cancelled many school events. Where possible we will reschedule these once restrictions are lifted.

Around the Grades Focus on Year 4 Life is a Cycle by Year 4 Through detailed observations Year 3 and 4 have been investigating the lifecycles of plants and animals. We have undertaken a case study of silk worms and bean sprouts. We noticed that the silk worms grew rapidly as they consumed more and more mulberry leaves and the amount of waste they produced also increased. We observed that the silk worms had different markings and found out that there are different types of silk worm. After 2 weeks the silk worms started spinning their yellow cocoons. We still have one silk worm that has not started to spin.

Was it born later than the others? Is it a female which needs more nutrients before it can spin a

cocoon and come out to lay eggs?

We also planted bean seeds in sandwich bags and stuck them onto windows on different sides of the room to experiment with which conditions the beans grow best in. It did not take our seeds long to sprout and in only 2 weeks they were too tall for the bags. We could see the root structure through the soil in the bottom of the bag which was very interesting.

Year 4 have been really impressed by the cycles of nature. 4L enjoyed the silk worms so much that they created their own silk worm pets.

Sport PSSA sport has been cancelled for the remainder of Term 1.
