Informaon about a few clubs has al-
ready been sent home. As things sele
I hope to add more clubs to the small
starng list.
On behalf of the school Id like to extend a warm welcome to the new families
joining us this year and equally so to all those returning aer the holidays.
Aer a summer that seemed to whizz by September has arrived and weve been
seling back into school life this week.
There has been a tremendous amount of work going on during the summer, all of
which nished just about in me for the teachers and many support sta to get
the school ready for last Wednesday morning.
We are extremely pleased with the new Year 2 classrooms and as soon as every-
thing is organised to our sasfacon we will arrange some me aer school forthose interested to have a look at whats been achieved; it really is a signicant
improvement.
In addion, all of the at roofs were renewed, some drainage issues repaired, the
Year 3 & 4 area decorated, the Foundaon block recongured and the kitchen ex-
tended. These are just the more signicant works undertaken as there were many
others! These improvements all help to provide the kind of environment our chil-
dren deserve. The school Governors and sta will connue to press the Local Au-
thority to provide funds for further improvements.
I am aaching with this leer our annual reminder sheet which hopefully will as-
sist everyone to know our expectaons to ensure that everything can run as
smoothly as possible.
I was very pleased to welcome back the children looking so smart in their school
uniforms. I intend to keep a close watch on how children are dressed for school
and will contact parents where I think children have moved away from what is ex-
pected.
I look forward to this year and hope together we can build on the improvements
made last year.

Art at Francis Baily
During last term the children worked under the direcon
of Mrs Clion, a member of our fabulous Support Team,
to decorate a life size model of an Arabian Horse. During
the holidays this was
displayed at the
Dubai Internaonal
Meeng at Newbury
Racecourse.
You can get a close
up look of the intri-
cate design as the
horse has returned
from the racecourse
and is keeping the camel company in the Foundaon
Area.
Whilst not winning we were highly commended and
received a cheque for 500. This will be used to support
other Art-based acvies.
Congratulaons to all involved especially the children,
Mrs Clion and our art co-ordinator Mrs Morley. We so
value arsc endeavours at the school that this year Miss
Barber will be working with Mrs Morley co-ordinang
our Art Curriculum.
Our next project will be to provide work for display at the
Newbury Show over the weekend of 20th/21st Septem-
ber.
You will also noce shortly the addion of the murals to
the walls around the Year 3/4 playground. You may have
seen the following arcle in the local press during the
holidays.
CHILDREN at Francis Baily Primary School put a spin on a
recent art project.
Seventy-ve Year 3 and 4 pupils worked with arst, Steve
Porter, to make a series of murals containing opcal illu-
sions to brighten up the playground.
The children studied a variety of opcal illusions and
experimented with their own designs before selecng
ones that interested them the most, creang three large
rectangular murals and two spinning circular ones.
The school art co-ordinator, Angela Morley, said: We
hope the painngs will inspire our young arsts to conn-
ue invesgang and experimenng with perspecve and
tricks of the eye as well as enjoying the paerns, colours
and the painng process.
