The United States' Department of Agriculture has informed Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply that Brazil may resume exports from five of its slaughterhouses for thermo-processed meat production. Thermo-processed products account for the bulk of Brazilian beef exports to the United States. Brazil has 18 slaughterhouses that supply this raw material but the five units were pre-emptively embargoed by the Ministry of Agriculture for problems such as breaking of packaging. The measure was taken with the aim of avoiding a total embargo on this type of exports. Brazil's Agriculture Minister commented that the hope is for the embargo on fresh meat to also end soon, after evaluations are sent to US officials. It's is forecasted that the decision will be made by October.
