Public Domain Reference

Group Workshops

Public Domain Reference Group members met

over four consecutive weeks in June to provide

feedback about the five key public facing areas of

the new Prince of Wales Acute Services Building:

art and culture, landscape design, wayfinding,

interior design and retail spaces. The Group’s

diverse representation across key stakeholder

groups, included the Aboriginal community,

culturally and linguistically diverse representatives,

consumers, academics, researchers and staff,

which meant a broad range of voices were heard.

Each of the first three workshops focused on one or

two of the public domain areas and included

presentations from the projects design experts to

give members both an overview of strategy as well

as the opportunity to ask questions. Each

presentation was followed by a workshop exercise

for that public domain area, designed to generate

discussion and elicit ideas and feedback.

The Randwick Campus Redevelopment team and

design consultants are thrilled with the level of

engagement and commitment from members, not to

mention the quality of their feedback and insights.

Feedback from the group has been positive, with

many participants describing the workshops as

genuine and positive opportunities for effective

collaboration and engagement, appreciating the

opportunity to find out more and provide their input.

The fourth and last workshop wrapped up the

valuable work achieved by the group and outlined

how their feedback will be carried forward in the

final design stages of planning for the new Acute

Services Building. Although much work is still to be

done to analyse the feedback, it is clear that our

design needs to be welcoming and inclusive,

supports healing, creates flexible spaces, considers

the locality and environment and are seen by

members as key priorities for the new hospital.

The team extends their gratitude and appreciation

to all involved in the workshops for helping us

deliver a community focused hospital that will meet

the needs of patients and their families, carers, staff

and the community now and into the future.

Fast facts: Furniture, fixtures and

equipment transfer audit

The project team recently completed the Furniture,

Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) transfer audit to

catalogue assets and equipment, and their suitability

for transfer all departments relocating to the ASB.

The transfer audit is a fundamental piece of work that

is required for FFE preparation and planning. It

provides the basis from

which we can better

understand FFE

procurement requirements

and alignment with budget.

Thank you to all staff who

supported the audit over

the last few months.

Construction update

Piling and excavation has commenced to lay the

retention system for the basement of the Acute

Services Building. Pete the Piling Rig will drill and fill

8 to 10 piles per day. Other large equipment will be

joining Pete on site, to support this important work.

Including cranes, compaction rollers, excavators, jack

hammers, rock saws, bob cats, trucks and trailers.

Clinicians visit other sites

In response to feedback from prototype scenario

testing, Karen Tuqiri, Director of Nursing, led a

multidisciplinary team on site visits to other NSW

hospitals to observe live clinical environments.

“We visited sites within the district and across the

state, to witness the bedroom layout in a live

clinical setting. This gave the team an opportunity

to observe current practices and have

discussions with staff who are currently practising

in the new facilities” said Karen.

Updates will be shared when available.

Superintendents Cottage

Update

External work is nearing completion with the veranda

restoration underway. Scaffolding is expected to be

removed early July.

Internal works have continued. Interior designers are

being engaged for concept designs and soft

furnishings for the Cancer Survivorship Centre and

the You Can Centre.

Thank you for having us!

During May and June the Randwick Campus

Redevelopment team visited wards and departments

to provide construction updates at the Royal Hospital

for Women and Sydney Children's Hospital,

Randwick. These sessions informed staff about the

next phase of piling and bulk excavation activities on

site.
