The Housing Authority held meetings on May
6th and 7th to talk with residents and hand
out information about R.A.D and future reloca-
tion information. Every head-of-household in
Grove View Terrace was encouraged to attend
one of the meetings to receive this very impor-
tant information.
Mrs. Driggers and Mrs. Burns spoke to the
residents, explaining how the relocation proc-
ess would work and what the residents could
expect. Mrs. Driggers explained that the
Housing Authority would hold a number of re-
location meetings over the next year with the
residents to assist them in understanding their
options and making informed decisions about
relocation. Mrs. Driggers also advised that the
residents would all be asked to complete a
survey which would assist FMHA in identifying
potential relocation options and if they
wanted to return to the Grove View Terrace
site, once the redevelopment was completed.
It is anticipated that the relocation of resi-
dents will begin in early 2016.
Mrs. Driggers told the group, “All residents liv-
ing in Grove View Terrace when relocation be-
gins will be relocated. The Housing Authority
will assist in moving you to a comparable
dwelling unit. You can take a voucher and
move anywhere in the country, within budget
constraints, or we can move you to another
FMHA public housing unit and then back
again, if you want to come back. It’s your
choice.”
According to RAD, only those residents living
in Grove View Terrace at the time of reloca-
tion will be able to participate. Mrs. Driggers
stated, “If you are not living at Grove View
Terrace when relocation officially begins, you
will not be eligible to participate in the RAD
program, you will not get assistance with relo-
cation and you will not be able to move back
to the new units once completed. Please be
sure to follow all of the terms of the FMHA
lease agreement. If you have any concerns
about the lease, please contact the Housing
Management Department.”
Housing Authority staff then briefly met with
the residents, one on one, to obtain signatures
for the relocation documents and answer any
questions that they had.
More meetings will be held with residents as
time draws nearer to relocation, which should
be late spring or early summer of 2016.

DON’T JEOPARDIZE YOUR HOUSING
Your housing unit is designed to accommodate only you
and those on your lease. The Housing Authority reminds
you:
1. To NEVER give your keys to anyone who is not on your lease.
2. Do not allow individuals who are not on your lease, to be in your unit
when you are not home.
3. Overnight guests must be reported to and approved by the Manage-
ment Office prior to their staying at your unit.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
In order for Community Ser-
vice hours to be approved,
the agency you are Volunteer-
ing for MUST be a unit of local govern-
ment or a non-profit agency. Please
make sure that the agency meets this re-
quirement before volunteering your
time. FMHA cannot credit you for hours
completed if an agency does not qualify
under the policy.
MAINTENANCE MATTERS
Reminder: You will be charged if Maintenance installs a light bulb for you, even
if you provide the light bulb.
When purchasing an Air Conditioner unit for your apartment, keep the following in mind…
IF you purchase a 220 v A/C unit and there is not currently a 220 v outlet in your apartment, Maintenance will need to install one when they install your air conditioner unit.
Also, keep in mind that your power bills will go up when you are using an air conditioner in your home, regardless of whether you are running a 110 v unit or a 220 v unit and you are responsible for the electric bill.
Do your homework before you purchase your unit. Know what size you need to cool your space. If you try to cool too large of a space with a smaller unit, it will run constantly, re-sulting in even higher electric bills each month. You may actually save money in the long run by buying the larger unit.
KNOW YOUR LEASE
Did you know that your
lease requires that both
you and the Housing
Authority work together
to ensure that your unit
is in good condition?
This means that as a
tenant living in public housing—you are
required to report any damages or re-
pairs needed in your unit to Mainte-
nance. Likewise, if Housing Authority
staff identify an item in your unit that
needs repairs they will submit it to
Maintenance for repair. Timely report-
ing of all unit repairs can save both you
and the Housing Authority money as it
keeps a small problem from turning into
a costly repair.

Outdoor Grilling Tips
As spring arrives at our Housing Authorities, we na turally look to get outside and start up our grills . Before you start your grill, please review these important safety tips .
Charcoal Grill Safety Tips
Each year, there are about 20 deaths from carbon mo noxide (CO) poisoning and about 400 emergency room treated injuries from CO poisoning r esulting from charcoal grills. Here are some safety tips to remember:
-- Never burn charcoal inside of homes, vehicles, tents, or campers. Charcoal should never be used indoors, even if ventilation is provided.
-- Since charcoal produces CO fumes until the charcoal is completely extinguished, do not store the grill indoors with freshly used coals.
Gas Grill Safety Tips
Liquid petroleum (LP) gas or propane, used in gas g rills, is extremely flammable. Each year more than 500 fires occur when people use gas grills and about 20 people are in-jured as a result of gas grill fires and explosions . Many of these fires and explosions occur when consumers first use a grill that has bee n left idle for a period of time or just after refilling and reattaching the grill's gas con tainer. To reduce the risk of fire or ex-plosion, consumers should:
-- Check the tubes that lead into the burner for any blockage from insects, spiders, or food grease. Use a pipe cleaner or wire to clear blockage and push it through to the main part of the burner.
-- Check grill hoses for cracking, brittleness, holes, and leaks. Make sure there are no sharp bends in the hose or tub-ing.
-- Move gas hoses as far away as possible from hot surfaces and dripping hot grease. If you can't move the hoses, in-stall a heat shield to protect them.
-- Replace scratched or nicked connectors, which can eventually leak gas.
-- Check for gas leaks, following the manufacturer's instructions, if you smell gas or when you reconnect the grill to the LP gas container. If you detect a leak, immediately turn off the gas at the tank and don't attempt to light the grill until the leak is fixed.
-- Keep lighted cigarettes, matches, or open flames away from a leaking grill.
-- Never use a grill indoors. Use the grill at least 10 feet away from any flammables.
Remember that the use of any type of grill on Housi ng Authority Property is required to be a MINIMUM o f ten feet away from any structure.

PIANO STUDENTS END THE YEAR ON A HIGH NOTE
Piano students, ages 6-14, showcased their skills at the May 4th piano recital at the Old Wilmington Rd. Neighborhood
Resource Center. Students were dressed to impress and wowed the audience of proud parents and friends. Although
most of the students were studying for the second semester, a couple of students were showing off their piano skills
after only one semester of study. This included playing an entire song without the help of the teacher.
Parents and well-wishers made up a wall of paparazzi taking pictures as each student completed her or her recital
piece and bowed or curtseyed as they paused for pictures. Following the recital, a cookies and punch reception was
provided by the Snyder Music Academy Director Joy Cogswell. Anna Bunn, who teaches both the 6-10 class and the
class for ages 11-14, is a member of the Snyder Music Academy staff.
During the summer break, parents of interested students can contact the FMHA Resident Services Department to be
added to the waiting list for upcoming piano classes. There will be an open house reception on June 21, 2015 at 6:30
pm for prospective students and parents at the Old Wilmington Road Neighborhood Resource Center.
