The standards they will be looking at range from governance, education and management to the financial obligations of our school. Marion Faassen, our Games teacher, has organised special coaching basketball lessons for the Koorrdjenangin Class over the next four Fridays. However, because the marquee has been erected on the hardcourt the venue for the coaching will need to be relocated to the main carpark in front of the school. Therefore from 1.15pm to 3.00pm the carpark will be roped off during the next four Fridays for the coaching to take place. It will be inconvenient for parents who arrive at school before 3.00pm, however, the bottom overflow carpark can be used instead. We appreciate everyone’s patience and good will during the next 4 Fridays at after school pick up time. Book Week dress up day was fabulous this morning with the children and teachers dressing up in their favourite book characters making it a wonderful success. Thank you and well done to everyone for participating and making it a memorable morning at our school. Many thanks to the parents and guardians who have completed the Parent Survey that was sent out last week, this will help in determining the school’s needs and direction for the coming year. There is still time for the survey to be completed and the more responses we have from the survey the more data we can use for future decisions. Blessings on our school and peace upon the earth. EARLY CHILDHOOD CHATTER

_________________________________________________________________________________ Hi everybody, hope you are all feeling refreshed after a long weekend with the children. The midterm break can be a bit of a catch 22, it is a time for a break from the morning school routine, to slow down and rest before those winter bugs take hold. However, we often find ourselves filling up the days and nights and can feel more tired than when we began, well some of us anyway. It is important to value and appreciate rest and try and instill this in our children too. Time at home to be “Oh so bored” is when the imagination can take hold. We are all lucky enough to live in the hills, and this often means discovering a creek or hill to slide down in the mud. It’s wet, it’s dirty and it is fun – we can smile and enjoy that our children are really experiencing the wonders of winter. Change to Parent Morning – due to a clash with the Light Keepers play on the Thursday on 1 September, the Parent Morning will be held for all parents and (young siblings) who can make it on:

Tuesday 30 August 11:30 in Lilly Pilly.

The topic for this meeting will be directed by YOU. What do you want to know about in our Kindergarten program? Each Kindy will have a Question Box on their verandah – please put in your questions and we will address them at the meeting. Thankyou everyone and keep those double sets of spare clothes coming into Kindy and keep your soaking buckets on hand at home. May you laugh along with the tinkling waters flowing down the creek. Warmth and Love, The Early Childhood Team

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOM

_________________________________________________________________________________ KOORRDJENANGIN NEWS After having the fortune of roaming the streets of Rome recently on a family holiday, it was with extra enthusiasm that the children and I delved into our new main lesson on ‘Ancient Rome’. Beginning with the story of Aeneas travelling from the burning city of Troy to the land of Latinus (modern day Italy), we then heard the gripping tale of Romulus and Remus and how Rome was founded, which led us on to the story of the Sabine women and the influence of other cultures, such as that of the Etruscans. Indeed we have been ‘conquered’ by all things ‘Roman’ during these past weeks, from Latin prefixes to Roman Numerals and of course ‘Italian’ culinary delights during cooking lessons. Even our music has been of the Latin variety!

Koorrdjenangin News cont… Equally exciting has been the arrival of our ‘Graduation jumpers’, in a beautiful green and showcasing the work of Ken Ng (Tooi’s Dad), who created a graphic design based on the class name ‘Koorrdjenangin, which is a Noongar word meaning following each other’s tracks , looking out for each other and observing the world of Nature around us. Thank you also to our dynamic class carer duo Sonya Crowther and Claire Ng for making this project happen. The graduation jumpers are a cozy way to celebrate our unity and love for each other as a class and will certainly become special keepsakes in the future. Or as the Romans say:

‘Amicitiae nostrae memoriam spero sempiternam fore’ ‘I hope that the memory of our friendship will be everlasting’

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION

What a wonderful array of Book characters we had at our Primary Assembly this morning. Thanks everyone for getting into the creative spirit of celebrating our love for books and our joy of reading. The Great Book Swap was held at recess with great excitement over the lovely selection of donated books on offer. Gold coin donations totaled $131 which will be sent off to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to help purchase books for children in Aboriginal communities who experience limited access to libraries and books to enjoy in the home. Thank you so much for your support.
