News for the Silver Tree Steiner School
Community
Dear Parents and Guardians The incident at Perth Waldorf School has highlighted the need to clarify emergency fire procedures at Silver Tree. In the event that a bush fire begins in areas close to the school and weather conditions are unfavourable, that is the fire conditions are CATASRTROPHIC as determined by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), the school will not open for tuition and parents and guardians will be notified via email, SMS, telephone and Facebook. If the school day has begun and the same conditions arise, parents and guardians will be notified via SMS, email or telephone and arrangements made to evacuate the school premises, parents or guardians will collect their children. If you are unable to collect your children and give authority for another parent to do so please notify the school immediately. If the fire is very close and it is unsafe to leave the school, we evacuate everyone to the Marri Kindergarten building and alert relevant authorities, parents and guardians through the same communication means and wait for further instructions from DFES Control Centre. If this were the case it would NOT be safe for parents or guardians to come to the school and you will be told not to do so. Once the emergency situation is over parents and guardians will be notified and children can be collected. We rely heavily on communication via the Class Carer Telephone Tree, it is important to notify the Office of any contact details that may have changed recently. Blessings on our school and peace upon the earth. Mark Panaia Administrator

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOM
_________________________________________________________________________________ EARLY CHILDHOOD CHATTER It was with some excitement and some trepidation that the Rainbow children stepped out to embrace their first lunch and afternoon at Kindergarten Paddy and Sheoaka first introduced them to Lillypilly and to Jo and then stayed with them for lunch. They all settled in well, enjoyed an extra-long play outside and a funny story before saying their first ever “going home verse.” They are growing up and it is a delight to see. It was also a delight to welcome so many of you to our parent meetings last Thursday night. We so appreciate the efforts you all made to attend even though the time was changed. We hope that the experience was enjoyable and informative enough to tempt you back to future meetings. Much work goes into their presentation and our wish is always to make them worthwhile. Any feedback and ideas for improving them is always welcome. Please speak to your teacher if you have any.
ALCHEMISTS NEWS
Solw Shalom
(Hebrew greeting meaning hello/peace)
And the Lord said; “Let there be light” (Those 19 lights shine each day in the class known as the Alchemists).
We’ve entered the land of the Old Testament. A land so incredibly rich with story and tradition that it’s hard not to drink up every single drop. From the language, to the dancing, to the songs, to the festivals and food – it must be said that this has to be one of my favourite Main Lessons. During the first two weeks of term, the Alchemists listened to, then painted the seven days of Creation. First came Light, then a Firmament, The Sun and the Moon, Plants and Land, Fish and Birds, then Man. On the last day God rested. The children also listened to stories of Paradise. A Garden of Eden in which all who lived within lived in peace. Then Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and were thus expelled. On the earth they now knew pain, old age, and death. They would have to work by the sweat of their brow and make sacrifices and pray so that the thread between Paradise and earth would not be broken. This whole year the children will mirror the path of man on earth. They will work the land, undertake a building project, and learn how man came to measure absolutely EVERYTHING. They will know now more than ever that they are being
Something new is mounting, growing Deep within me, outward surging.
Seed is ripening, sap is flowing; Power streaming, light emerging.
Fire-spirits sparkle round me, warmth and will-
bestowing: “Sing our fiery song of summer strength!” I hear them
urging.

Alchemists News cont.. held by a loving authority, as within themselves they undergo a developmental milestone. Questions will start to bubble up, uncertainty may rear its head, and a small window into adolescence will be opened for the first time. Our first excursion for the year will see the Alchemists visit a Synagogue. A chance to gain a deeper insight into the Hebrew traditions will be on offer as well the opportunity to perform some of the dances and songs they have learned so far. It’s been a wonderful start to the year (apart from the really hot days) and I can’t wait to share more Old Testament stories with the Alchemists. Blessings, Yvette

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY Remember that any parents are welcome to join us at the Primary School assembly on Wednesday mornings at 8:30am. If you are a Kindergarten parent, this will be after you have dropped your child at Kindergarten.
To follow is the acknowledgment of Country and the Morning Verse, which are both recited by the children each Wednesday:
Acknowledgment of Country:
We at Silver Tree Steiner School Acknowledge that we are on Noongar land
And that the Noongar people remain the spiritual and cultural custodians of their land And continue to practice their values, language, beliefs and knowledge.
We are in Wadjuk country.
Morning verse: The Sun with loving light
Makes bright for me each day, The soul with spirit power
Gives strength unto my limbs, In sunlight shining clear
I revere, Oh God, The strength of humankind,
Which Thou so graciously Has planted in my soul,
That I with all my might, May love to work and learn.
From Thee comes light and strength To Thee rise love and thanks.

RELATIONSHIPS AUSTRALIA
Parent-Child Connection – Wednesday 9 March x 4 weeks - 6.30-9pm $50 per person/$75 per couple Raising children should be one of life’s greatest experiences, but as any parent knows, it is not an easy task. People with children under ten are invited to this four-week course to learn new skills, feel better about their parenting and gain confidence. For further information please 6164 0200.
Successful Single Parenting - Wednesday 30 March – 6.30-9pm $25. People become single parents through a range of life choices and circumstances. Parenting alone is different in many ways compared to a two parent household and can have its difficulties and challenges. Whatever the challenges it is important to live your life in ways that shows your children you are happy. This will help them accept and value their lifestyle. If you are a single parent and are through that initial break-up stage this course will provide strategies that will help you develop a close and special relationship with your child. For further information please 6164 0200. Understanding Stepfamily Relationships – a weekend course 1 2 3 April - $75 per person/$120 per couple. Stepfamilies and blended families operate in a different way to intact biological families. The dynamics of a stepfamily are more complex and there is a need for special understanding and management from both biological and stepparents working together for a healthy stepfamily growth to happen. For further information please 6164 0200.
