Our latest effort is the Dhanchayat initiative which will have vans visit 5,000 villages (in Phase 1) educating residents about the dangers of informal financial channels. Exploring the many nuances of the Swachch Bharat campaign, our Bank

launched Dhanchayat as part of its Swachch Banking campaign.

The educational film, launched on July 30, 2015 in Mumbai, aims to raise awareness on the dangers of borrowing money from unorganised sources. The video will be screened in special Dhanchayat video vans, the first of which was flagged off by our MD, Mr Aditya Puri and Mr Paresh Sukthankar, Deputy MD.

As part of Swachch Banking, which aims to raise awareness about clean and convenient banking, HDFC Bank-branded Dhanchayat video vans will

travel across the country, with the aim of covering 5,000 villages in Phase 1. Through the film, the vans will explain the importance of transparency in dealings as also the dignity and self-respect of the individual in the borrowing process.

The vans will stop at assembly points such as haats, bazaars, melas and village panchayats and encourage the local populace to join the organised banking sector in line with the government’s vision for

financial inclusion.

The vans will also have micro-ATMs with biometric facility fitted in them to enable instant e-KYC and Re-KYC using Aadhaar cards.

Fifth to roll out the initiative was Uttar Pradesh. Mr Gulzar Singh, Branch Banking Head, Mr Rahul Bhatnagar, Principle Secretary Finance, Government of UP, and Mr Kumar Sanjeev, Regional Head, flagged off the first van at Bank House, Lucknow. The vans will visit 400 villages in the state.

Tamil Nadu was the third state to roll out the initiative. At Madurai, the vans were flagged-off from the Madurai Main Branch by Mr Madhusudan Hegde, Branch Banking Head, with Mr R Suresh, Zonal Head. The vans will visit 85 villages in the state.

Tamil Nadu Gujarat was the fourth state to flag off the Dhanchayat vans. Mr Thomson Jose, Regional Head, Gujarat, launched the initiative at Lapkaman village (about 20km from Ahmedabad). The vans will visit 450 villages in the state.

EduBridge-QUEST Alliance builds careers

Nagsen Bhalerao, a BCom graduate, joined EduBridge for a Basic Retail course after resigning from his previous job.

Although he completed a three-year graduation programme, Nagsen was unsure about the career path he wanted. It was then that he got introduced to the EduBridge programme by his brother. Sceptical, he approached EduBridge, where he found his career.

Nagsen says, “I invested three years of my life doing graduation, had no direction when it came to jobs, had I known that a month’s training would change my life path, I would have taken it much earlier. I now recommend this course to all my friends.”

iLEAD empowers Yashoda Meena

Yashoda Meena, is from Meetha Ram ji Ka Khera village, Chittorgarh District in Rajasthan. Post marriage, unfavourable circumstances took

her family to Chittorgarh from the countryside. Living on the earnings of a daily wage labourer was making it next to impossible to make ends meet. Credits from various sources started mounting, which led Yashoda to start looking for a job to support the family. Unfortunately, lack of employable skills lead her nowhere.

Offsite health checkup camps kicked off

The first Offsite Health Checkup Camp was held in Bengaluru from July 10 to August 1, 2015. Held every Friday and Saturday, about 3,000 Branch Banking employees were given the opportunity to attend the camps sponsored by the Bank, which previously was limited to employees in major hub offices only.

Currently the camp is underway in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Delhi NCR – covering about 31 districts – and should reach about 10,000 employees.

This is when she came in contact with the Initiatives for Livelihood, Education and Development (iLEAD) faculties on a mobilisation drive. After the counselling from team iLEAD, she took admission in the Skilled Sewing Operator (garment construction) programme.

Along with regular sessions on trading, computer classes and also personality development, Yashoda felt a remarkable improvement in her personality and confidence. She completed the training, borrowed some money from her relatives and invested on a stitching machine and started to work from her home. Now she is able to earn `5000 per month and feels content that she is contributing to her family’s income.

Blood drive appreciated

On August 16, 2015, the Tapovan Blood Bank, Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) held a programme to felicitate organisations and persons

actively involved in blood donation campaigns. Representatives of more than 100 organisations and societies were invited in the event.

Our Bank’s efforts were recognised at the event and Mr Kamal Kishore Bansal, WBO Abohar, accepted the felicitated. The team had organised a blood donation camp at DAV College Abohar on December 4, 2014, where 112 donors had participated and 101 units were collected.

Our Bank named Best Asian Bank by FinanceAsia

In our last issue we shared the news that our Bank was named the ‘Best Domestic Bank in India’ at the FinanceAsia Country Awards.

Adding another feather to our cap, we have also been named the ‘Best

Bank in Asia’. This is the first time HDFC Bank, or any Indian bank for that matter, has won the award.

The award was presented at a ceremony in Hong Kong on August 27, and Mr Sukarm Bali, CEO, HDFC Bank, Hong Kong accepted the award on behalf of the Bank.

This award is based on a number of metrics. Each year, the winners of the best bank in each country (so the likes of DBS, Public Bank, etc) are evaluated on a number of metrics – profitability, net interest margin, NPLs, tier – 1 capital, etc, and this year our Bank won, which is the first time an Indian bank has won this award.

All-women branch marks Bihar’s 80th

On August 7, our Bank launched four new branches in Bihar, taking its total network in the state to 80 branches. Making the achievement even more special is the fact that the 80th branch is an all-women branch, the first in the state.

The branches were launched electronically by Mr Nitish Kumar,

Chief Minister, in the presence of Mr Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Finance Minister (Bihar); Mr Ravi Mittal, Finance Secretary (Bihar); and Mr Sandeep Kumar, Zonal Head, HDFC Bank.

The branches are located in Ashiana Nagar (all-women branch) and Saguna More in Patna; Arrah in the Bhojpur district; and Saharsa in the Saharsa district. The branch at Ashiana Nagar is also the first all-women’s branch in Bihar.

As of June 30, 2015, the Bank had a distribution network with 4,101 branches and 11,962 ATMs across the country.

E-payment gateway launched for Baramati Nagarparishad On August 17, 2015, our Bank

launched an e-payment gateway for municipal taxes at the Baramati Nagarparishad. Starting today, citizens of the area will be able to make their property tax payments online in a quick and convenient manner, using any debit card, credit card, or NetBanking facility.

The service was officially launched by Mr Ajit Pawar, former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Mr Rakesh Kumar Relan, Zonal Head, HDFC Bank.

Over 75 corporate teams weighed in at the Corporate Table Tennis Tournament organised by Woodsports, in Mumbai.

Our Bank’s men’s table tennis team – Aditya Tawde, Amod Nayyar – won the Doubles’ Championship. Aditya Tawde also won the Men’s Singles title. Anuj Agarwal and Vivek Chellam

were named Runners-up in the Men’s Doubles event; and Amod Nayyar was Second Runner-up in the Men’s Singles.

Bengaluru team clinches third big win

Our Bengaluru cricketers have won the BNP Paribas Corporate Cricket Tournament. Played on a league cum knockout basis at the RSI cricket grounds at Bengaluru, the

matches were played on turf wicket with white ball during weekends.

The team beat IFA XI by 20 runs in the first match, then went on to defeat ICICI Bank and HSBC to reach the Semifinals.

The Semis were against the reigning champs Standard Chartered, and went down to the wire with a thrilling last ball victory.

In the Finals, the team met Anand

Rathi Securities, the third time in a final. Our team batted first, scoring 120 in the allotted 15 overs. Opener Ashish Paul scored a match-winning 77 runs and Arnab Chaudhary scored brisk 40.

This is the third straight tournament victory for our Bengaluru cricket team!
