Cross Country Series 2 July 2017 http://acm.kiwi.nz/running Email: [email protected] Derek set the same course we used last year for the Holdsworth run, but a heavy frost meant it was a very cold start. In fact, as the photos show, it wasn’t that tropical after the run either. That wasn’t helped by the lack of a nice warming cup of tea due to a power failure. ACM members did incredibly well at the Wellington marathon events bringing home three National Champions along with a swag of other medals. Our 2017 NZ National Masters Champions are Annie Jerling (W 45-49), Graeme Butcher (M 55-59) and Tony Price (M 60-64). Other results: Athletic NZ Championship - Annie Jerling (3rd MW 35+), Graeme Butcher (3rd MM 50+); Wellington Centre Championships Annie Jerling (1st MW 35+) and Claudia Baechle (3rd MW 35+). Cool conditions and a head wind on the way home made things interesting. It was a tough race for Annie’s 10th Marathon but what amazing results! Well done John as well, completing another 10k race in support of his Mum. James Inwood, Stephen Yeats and Graeme Tindall also completed the marathon and a number of other local runners completed the half marathon and 10km events.

Happy Birthday Ruffe

In celebration of Ruffe’s 80th birthday, a group of ACM runners joined Bush Harriers for a Cross Country run at Ruffe's followed by an afternoon tea last Sunday. It was a classic course with plenty of hills, mud, creeks, swamps and confusing markers. Just as well it wasn’t an inter-club event - over half our team took wrong turns! Roger Jones made one of his rare appearances and it was great to see Teresa back out on the course.

A small team travelled across to Trentham last Saturday (24th) to compete in the 2017 Sanders & Gough inter-club. Our Senior/Masters Men (Malcolm, Ray, Lloyd, Roger, Greg & David) were 3rd in the Sanders Cup; the Senior/Masters Women (Franky & Megan) came 3rd in the Burns Cup and our walkers (Brian & Claudia) were second. It was a pretty miserable day weather-wise, so good work team.

Primary Schools Cross Country While some of us were enjoying afternoon tea in Pahiatua, Rachel Lewis and her team of helpers braved appalling weather to do a great job hosting the Primary Schools Cross Country event at the ACM clubrooms. The weather was even worse than last year, but 80+ hardy kids showed up and ran or slipped their way around the course.
