Car industry
• Car manufacturers and their suppliers form a big part in Germany’s economy
• In Oberberg we also have many suppliers, e.g. one of the leading axle and trailer producers (BPW)
• The cars have to get better and better
Saving fuel
• A big topic is saving fuel• For this, new technologies like an automatic
start stop system are developed• There are also other ideas like a tyre giving a
signal when the pressure is low• This also helps to save fuel
Automatic cars
• There are tests about a car which is driven by a computer only. There is no driver needed
• Also, the cars communicate and warn each other e.g. if there is ice
• The systems can notice if you are tired and it will stop your car
Our biggest car group
• The state of Niedersachsen has a car-orientated economy, because with Volkswagen Europe’s biggest Car Group is located there
• An unique supplier industry has developed there
• More than 700 companies manufacture everything which includes mobility, e.g. airbags, car seats, steering systems
Our biggest car group
• The workers in Niedersachsen work on efficient motors, sustainable mobility, electronic cars and clever assistant systems
• This should lead to more fuel-efficient cars
Special systems
• The company Bosch manufactures start-stop-systems
• When the driver stops at a red traffic light the motor goes out
• When the driver uses the clutch when the light is green the car starts again
Cars can communicate
• Another company, Continental, works on wheels which report when the pressure sinks
• Structure-borne sound sensors which are designed to save you in an accident
Cars can communicate
• An intelligent car is invented which drives without a driver, because of assistant systems and many sensors
• Cars shall warn each other of black ice or traffic jams
Automatic parking systems
• Another idea is to automate the parking operation
• Most of drivers need more time to find a parking space than reaching the destination!
• If that can be realized the driver would not have to care about the searching a parking lot and the car will park itself
Automatic parking systems
• The driver can activate the parking operation with a smartphone app
• When the driver wants to get back to his car, he calls his car and the car drives on its own to the place where the driver stands
Bicycle Industry
• The bicycle is the most used transportation in Germany
• Especially electric bicycles are very popular in the moment
• There is a new propulsion which combines the central engine with the backpedal brake
The right batteries
• A big topic for the electronic mobility are the right batteries
• Johnson Control produces the interior of the cell chemistry up to the finished module
• The new cells are prismatic so that the batteries need less space
Car engine
• The engine is the most important element of a car
• Continental builds the first high-efficient synchronic machine without the use of rare earth
• The new engines go out if the car is standing and starts again if you step on the clutch
• If you brake, the energy can be transformed into electricity and stored in the battery
The first electric cars
• The first electric car which is produced in series reaches a speed of 75 km/h and is ideal for roads in the city or on premises
• The company tests how electric vehicles can be used as power storage
The first electric cars
• Volkswagen also manufactures electric cars• Since 2011 they test electric cars in Germany• The first electric car is already for sale
Using wind energy for electronic cars
• The land between Harz and North Sea has much wind
• 25% of the wind energy in Germany are produced there
• New wind turbines are planned to produce the energy for more than 100.000 electronic cars that are expected to be on the road in 2016
New airplanes
• In Stade and in other parts of Niedersachsen there are specialists of lightweight who work on reinforced carbon fiber plastic
• The aim is to make the airplanes lighter and to reduce the fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions
