‘Head’lines (Miss Lisa Roberts, Headteacher) Despite the ever-changing weather this week, we have had another great week in school. We have welcomed a few new key worker children back as well as some additional Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils! Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming some Year 5 children back and we know from photographs and emails that have been sent in that the children are very excited to be returning to school. It is so sad that we can’t have everyone back just yet; we wish things were different. I am aware of how disappointed and upset a lot of children will be to have to wait even longer to come back to school and see their friends and teachers again. We can only hope that all primary aged children can return in September and get the new academic year off to a normal (and flying) start. Thank you to those of you who have used the new class email accounts to send in children’s work for feedback from the class teacher. You will receive the feedback next Monday. Children attending school will bring home a hard copy of their feedback document instead of it being emailed. Teachers are also working hard on end of year reports these will be sent out to you on Monday 13 th July (via email this year for obvious reasons)! We have a number of senior leadership meetings next week in which we will be discussing staffing, curriculum coverage, timetabling and school development priorities for next year a year that, for all schools, will be focused on extreme differentiation, intervention, coverage and catch-up. We will inform you of teachers/class etc for next year in a couple of weeks’ time and how we plan to enable children to have some time with next year’s teacher before the end of term. Attached to the newsletter, today, you will receive a ‘Black Lives Matter’ parent guide that has been shared across St Albans schools this week. Following on from my letter, dated 8 th June, this guide may support you in conversations with your child(ren) about the Black Lives Matter movement and all that they might be seeing and hearing on the news at the moment. Thank you for your support and encouragement we are still receiving the loveliest of emails and cards from parents and children. This doesn’t go unnoticed it spurs us on towards what we hope will be a large ray of light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Thank you. Have a great weekend SANDRIDGE WEEKLY NEWS Friday 19 th June 2020 Sandridge 10K The ‘Sandridge10korganisers are pleased to announce that the SANDRIDGE10K IS STILL ON (albeit with a few adjustments)! Despite the ever-changing weather this week, we have had another great week in school. We have welcomed a few new key worker children back as well as some additional Reception,

Year 1 and Year 6 pupils!

Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming some Year 5 children back – and we know from photographs and emails that have been sent in that the children are very excited to be

returning to school. It is so sad that we can’t have everyone back just yet; we wish things were different. I am aware of how disappointed and upset a lot of children will be to have to wait even longer to come back to school and see their friends and teachers again. We can only hope that

all primary aged children can return in September and get the new academic year off to a normal (and flying) start.

Thank you to those of you who have used the new class email accounts to send in children’s

work for feedback from the class teacher. You will receive the feedback next Monday. Children attending school will bring home a hard copy of their feedback document instead of it being

emailed. Teachers are also working hard on end of year reports – these will be sent out to you on

Monday 13th July (via email this year – for obvious reasons)!

year that, for all schools, will be focused on extreme differentiation, intervention, coverage and catch-up. We will inform you of teachers/class etc for next year in a couple of weeks’ time and how we plan to enable children to have some time with next year’s teacher before the end of

This week’s learning…in school and at home

EYFS

In our Mon/Tues group, the children were asked to cut up small pieces of coloured tissue paper and glue them down in a spiral. This made a snail shell - they then added a foot and

antennae to transform their artwork into a Matisse style snail. If anyone would like to do this at home, this link www.tate.org.uk/kids/make/cut-paste/collage-matisse-snail

tells you what you need! Do send any photos in for us to see.

Harry made birthday buns! Artie (and his brother) studied a snail and then painted its trail.

Year 1

Mr Sinclair taught our Year 1 group a new activity in PE – Frisbee Golf!

This week’s learning…in school and at home

Year 6

We have had another great week in Year 6 and moved our Tudor topic onto learning about the

Explorers. First, we had to prove the Earth was not flat before moving onto learning about a famous explorer. We have focused on Sir Walter Raleigh and imagined we were writing a letter from him to Queen Elizabeth. We also learnt a lot about life as a sailor; there were stories of giant sea monsters

so we made our own out of Play Dough and wrote descriptions of an attack!

Year 2 key workers

We have been learning about the Polar Regions

and the children have been writing shape

poems about one of the animals.

Year 3 key workers

Year 3 wrote a list poem in English this week about ' 10 things in an explorer's rucksack'

linking to their English topic of Journey to the Jungle.

A new resident in Early Years!

In the Early Years’ garden we have a

pigeon nesting. She has been sat there for over 2 weeks in a very

shabby nest. She doesn't seem fazed by the children playing beneath her, but just sits and stares at them! We

will keep watching…

With thanks to Olivia for the fantastic life-sized Queen Elizabeth I!
