News from Kim Doyle [email protected] SAINTS WEEKLY NEWS SAINT WENCESLAUS CATHOLIC SCHOOL OFFICE UPDATE JOY Dear Parent, Grandparents and Friends; Volunteer Appreciation This week we join together as a school community to thank and appreciate all of the people who volunteer and help to make the school the terrific place that it is. There are so many things that need to be done each year. We have parent volunteers, grandparent volunteers, parishioner volunteers, retired teacher volunteers, current teacher volunteers, ex- parent volunteers, high school and college student volunteers, alumni volunteers and people who just want to help. Thanks to each and every person. Each of you adds so much. Who benefits from all volunteer eorts? - Of course the ones who benefit are the children. You make our school possible! Each year we have many, many people who work on the various committees of the school. Here are some of the lead committee members and planing people. We know that the planners recruit many other folks to help but it is important to have people in charge and take the leading roles to success. Kindergarten for Fall 2015 - This Week! Orientation Evening in Kindergarten A special evening is planing for all students entering SWS kindergarten in fall. Join us at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 30. This kindergarten orientation night will help your child get to know teacher, Mrs. Busch, and join in on a few fun activities. Information about the upcoming school year will be shared with parents. Know someone else who might like to come to SWS kindergarten? Bring them with You!!

Seeking....... Member of our Home and School

Association We are seeking new members to serve on teams for our Home and School Association. This committee meets 8-9 times each year with smaller committee meetings in-between. The Home/School plans one major fundraising event ( The Handmade Market) to fund their goals. They also help organize the school marathon. The committee works to provide the teachers and students with appreciation activities. SWS teachers and students love the Home/School Moms!! !

Seeking....... School Advisory Council Members

We are looking for two new members to serve on this important committee of the school. The council works on the policy issues of the school, develops the budget, and serves in an advisory capacity to the principal and the pastor. All decisions are made by vote of the entire group and recommendations are given. The council meets 10 times each year with small committee work done between meetings.!We are looking for dedicated people who can view the school with a broad perspective. If you are interested in this opportunity to serve the school community, please contact Kim.

This is Geissell week! Time again to raise funds to support Geissell, our sponsored student from Guatemala. Geissell is now in high school. St. Wenceslaus students have sponsored her since she was a little girl. Our goal is to raise $800 this year which will allow Geissell to go the school for one more year.!April 27 -May 1 will be Geissell Week.!The social justice class will be selling morning snacks to any students who wish to donate. $1.00 for a drink and $1.oo for a treat. Also on Tuesday, April 28 - any student in K - 6 who donates $1.00 can get out of uniform for the day! Bracelets are also for sale $1.00. $1.00 to be in an Hola video to send to Geissell. Let’s help Geissell continue her education. Donations of greater value are appreciated!

Grandparents and Special Guest Day New Format this year- One Day Only! Thursday, May 7!8:00-9:00 - Coffee and donuts for guests in gym. Guests can look at academic displays in gym.!9:00 - Living Rosary in the Church!9:30-11:00 - Coffee and donuts continues and guests can do observations in the classrooms. No specific activities planned-just show up at the classroom door!!11:00-12:30 - Lunch and recess for guests and students!12:45-2:00 - Spring concert in the church!!Lunch must be ordered ahead of time - $3.50 per guest!Special guest day invitations went out a few weeks ago.

Tuition Payments are due on April 30. 2014-15 tuition is now due in full for all families. If you need extended time or have a situation that make final payment difficult, please make arrangements with Sherry or Kim.!

Paper Drive - Ends??? Something to think about! The parish parking lot is going to be under construction beginning in June! That means there are only 2 paper drive days left until the paper drive ends. A truck will not be able to sit on our lot during the construction time.!We need a person to step forward and lead the paper truck efforts for the future. We hope to continue this service to the community in the future but it is time for a new leader. We thank Eric and Lisa Schmid for starting this activity at our school. It has made thousands of dollars for the school and it has been a wonderful recycling effort for the community.!!

School Talent Show - April 29 at 7:00 Talent sought from upper grade students for our talent show!!All school families encouraged to attend to see the talent!!FREE - entertainment!!

All School Spring Concert Thursday, May 7 !Please mark your calendars and make arrangements with all of your child’s evening sporting events.!Our evening concert will take place at 7:00 PM!The afternoon show will take place at 12:45.

Band/Piano/ Voice Concert!Mark you calendar for Thursday, May 21 at 7:00 PM for a concert with all of the private lesson students in Mrs. Gallagher/Mrs. Gorr program.!An in-school concert will also be preformed for the school students on Wed., May 27 at 10:00

Host Families Wanted for Korean Kids: Once again we will need to place a number of Korean students for the next school year. These students are in grades 4-8/both boys and girls. Korean students are applying now so that they can get their students visa’s and other travel papers in order before August. Please contact Kim to learn more about hosting a student for 1 year or 1/2 year. We hope to find 5 families to host in fall

Yearbooks - $18 - Last Call for orders. These books contain memories of Preschool - Grade 8. Call the office.

Summer Club House Plans are being made for a great summer program with Club House! Theme days, swim days, participation in park and library activities are all in the works. We will be open all summer and remember - Our PAC !now is nicely air conditioned. Please !contact the office or Amy Harnack !with questions or to enroll full time !or part time.! [email protected]!!Volleyball Camp for girls in grades 3-7 will take place May 4,5, and 6. This is a great way to learn to game or to review skills in a fun way. We thank Coach Angie Andersen and Coach Kevin Craig for volunteers to do this camp. the fee charged to participate will to used for the purchase of volleyball equipment for the fall volleyball teams.

Time to Golf ! Golfer registration forms and event sponsor and supporter forms are attached to this newsletter.

The St. Wenceslaus School Golf Committee is busy planning the 14th Annual Golf Tournament for Friday, June 12th. Proceeds from this event provide SWS with vital funding for operational needs and you are personally invited to participate.!!This year’s tournament will take place at the New Prague Golf Club in New Prague and we look forward to another fabulous day on the course. There are many ways that you can take part. Opportunities to show your support are:!!

! Come on out and golf!!! Consider a Hole Sponsorship. Individuals, families, honor memorials, etc. are invited to be hole sponsors.!! Sponsor a Hole-In-One Contest or opt for the Hole Sponsorship!! Donate cash or be a prize sponsor !! Volunteer to work the event. (Check-in, hole-in-one witnesses, contest workers on the course, etc.)

$10,000 Tuition Grant Received! We are excited to announce that SWS was recently given $10,000 to increase enrollment in our school. All 80 Catholic School in the Archdiocese received this award last week from the Schultz Family Foundation. The Dick Schultz Family so strongly believes in our Catholic Schools that they have given each school this award so that we can offer new students and families the opportunity to receive a Catholic School Education. Spread the word to families who may have their children enrolled in other schools but have wanted to have their children receive a faith-based academic education. More details to come. Cut Your Tuition in Half ! Bring a new K-8 friend/student into our school and both you and the new student receive 1/2 off of the tuition fee for the 2015-16 school year. Have more than one child? Attention Second Grade Parents The school Mass on May 6 is a special Mass planned by the 2nd graders. We ask all students to wear their First Communion outfits. ! If your child did not receive their !First Communion please have them !wear a nice outfit on this day. !Students may also bring any gifts !received that you would like blessed !on this day. Fr. Kevin will bless the !items after Mass. Bring a camera. You may take class pictures after Mass.!Parents - you may sit in the front benches at Mass so that you can see better and take pictures.

Student Virtus Lessons All students in Preschool- Grade 8 have completed the annual training required by the Archdiocese. Students receive 4 lessons on protection. This curriculum is part of the Initiative for the Protecting of Children. Students learn how to keep themselves safe and what to do if they feel uncomfortable with an adult or another person.
