Position Title Early Learning Centre (ELC) Assistant – Lunch and Rest Time

Reports to Director of Early Learning Centre
Direct Reports Nil At Trinity Grammar School Kew (Trinity) responsibility for the protection of children is shared because children are safeguarded only when all individuals accept responsibility and work together and play their part in keeping children and young people safe from harm and abuse. All Educational Support Staff are required to:
• Support and adhere to the School’s Child Protection Policy, Staff Code of Conduct and child abuse reporting policies and procedures
• Attend and take part in child protection training including the completion of online modules on the detection and reporting of child abuse.
• Report cases of suspected child abuse in accordance with Trinity policy and legal obligation.
Position Summary The Early Learning Centre Assistant will work as a member of the ELC team to ensure a high-quality children’s services program for three-year old and four-year old children. Decisions are judgement regarding the children is made under the guidance of the staff member responsible for the group of children.
Hours of Work During Term: 11.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. Holiday Program: 11.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. (shared by 2 assistants - First week of Term 1, 2 and 3 holidays)

Key Responsibilities • To be an integral member of the ELC team developing positive relationships with children
and staff • To engage with children throughout the lunch period; • To assist with the transition period between lunch and rest time; • To support children at rest time; • To assist with cleaning up after lunch time; • To assist with preparation of activities for the period after rest time; • To assist in developing positive relationships and effective communication between families
and centre staff; • To develop and maintain positive communication with:
o Parents and staff at the centre o Staff of the wider school community o Visitors o Staff from other agencies o Government agencies
• To maintain confidentiality at all times; • To prepare materials and equipment for the children’s use in conjunction and consultation
with the educators; • To have a working knowledge of the Children’s Services Regulations; • To work in accordance with the Legislative requirements under the Act and Regulations for
Children’s Services; • To be aware of, and assist in the implementation of the policies of the Early Learning Centre; • Other duties as directed by the educator in charge or the Director of the Early Learning
Centre; • Support and promote the School’s policies and practices for Occupational Health and
Safety, Equity and Harassment. Key Selection Criteria • Timely completion of tasks as directed by the educator in charge; • Ensure presentation and attire is in line with expectations and standards of an independent
school; • Successfully supports Early Learning Centre colleagues and contributes to positive staff
relationships; • Assists with and promotes the development of positive relationships with children and their
parents; • Contributes to Early Learning Centre staff meetings and professional development sessions; • Illustrates and implements effective organisational skills;

Special Requirements and Qualifications
• All employees of Trinity Grammar School must hold a valid Working with Children’s Check.
• Minimum: Cert III in Children’s Services • Current anaphylaxis certificate • Current First Aid certificate • Experience working in an early learning centre with a track record of excellence in quality
